ABSTRACT
This paper examines how African American actors’ roles in The Help (2011), a movie directed by Tate Taylor, represent Magical Negro as an act to legitimate racial discrimination and black American stereotype under white supremacy. The setting of this movie is during social movement era in Mississippi around 1960s. The story is about Skeeter, an Ole Miss graduated woman, who returns to her hometown to become a writer and to work as a young journalist and columnist for a local newspaper in house cleaning section. During her work as a journalist, Skeeter meets Aibileen, her friend’s black maid. With the help of several black maids, she starts a book project about racial discrimination in Jackson, Mississippi. This paper analyzes representation of Magical Negro characters and the scene which legitimates white supremacy through actions of the characters. The paper reveals a stark contradiction in the film. On one hand, the film explicitly raises the theme of racial discrimination, but on the other hand, it reinforces the ideology of white supremacy. Reviews on previous researches about the same issue are analyzed as well as character and scene analysis from the movie in order to reach objective. This paper concludes that this movie uses Magical Negro concept to legitimate white supremacy towards black people., This paper examines how African American actors’ roles in The Help (2011), a movie directed by Tate Taylor, represent Magical Negro as an act to legitimate racial discrimination and black American stereotype under white supremacy. By using mise-en-scene in film studies and Erving Goffman’s depictions of women images in media (1979), this study reveals that the representations of women in the videos portray Goffman’s depictions of women images and also the stereotypical gender roles performances. The images of women performing gender roles are validating gender stereotypes, and are also suggesting a reflection of women’s value in the society."

ABSTRACT
The focus of this study is to show the way the white wedding concept manipulate
women as represented in a movie, titled Bride Wars. Using the semiotic theory of
Roland Barthes, some white wedding rituals and attributes in Bride Wars are
analyzed in order to find the denotative and conotative meanings within them.
From the analysis, it is shown that the connotative meanings or myths which lies
within the rituals and attributes manipulate the idea of wedding on women?s
minds. The myths unconciously put pressure in women?s mind so that women
follow the ideal standard of a wedding which is constructed by the myth.
Unfortunately, the pressure build some characters within women that causes
detriment to women.

Women with disabilities are a vulnerable group who can experience sexual violence due to disability conditions and intersecting gender inequality. In 2020, violence against women with disabilities in Indonesia was 77 cases. The purpose of this study was to determine the help seeking behavior of women with disabilities who survived sexual violence by using the help seeking behavior model from Liang (2005) which includes individual factors, interpersonal factors, and socio-cultural factors. Where these factors will affect problem recognition, decision making to seek help, and selection of support sources. This qualitative research uses a case study approach at Institution X Yogyakarta with 4 women with disabilities survivors of sexual violence and 7 key informants. The results of in-depth interviews with the majority of survivors illustrate the wrong perception of understanding sexual violence where violence is defined as an act accompanied by beatings and not coercion. Survivors understand sexual violence after joining the disability community and attending violence training. All of the survivors were initially silent and did not immediately decide to seek help because of the culture which states that people with disabilities are marginalized, domestic violence is normal, and wives must obey their husbands. Informal sources of assistance were chosen as problem focused coping for survivors compared to formal sources of assistance. Only some survivors continue to seek help to formal sources due to supportive families or because of their spouse. This study recommends the importance of the government conducting socialization to institutions that handle cases of violence related to policies on persons with disabilities and disseminating information on disability rights, reporting methods, and handling cases. For the community, socialization related to sexual violence is needed in order to protect women with disabilities."

ABSTRACT
Snow White and the Huntsman is a 2012 Hollywood film that dramatically deconstructs a classic Grimm?s fairytale story of Snow White both in its plot and character, and is regarded as a film that is made with a conscious feminist agenda. Unfortunately, this film has not been extensively discussed for the ambivalences in women?s representation that perpetuate the long-held patriarchal beliefs of women. This is what this study attempts to accomplish through a critical and textual analysis of Snow White and Huntsman. It explores, in particular, how women are controlled by men?s idealized beauty and how the ambivalence towards women?s representation is depicted in this film. The findings show that Snow White and the Huntsman has ambivalences towards feminism: on the one hand, women are strongly depicted as heroes, but on the other hand they are depicted as men?s stuff that controlled by men?s idealized beauty. This study contributes to women studies on the representations of women in today?s film, providing a framework for understanding how patriarchal bias is in today?s society., Snow White and the Huntsman is a 2012 Hollywood film that dramatically deconstructs a classic Grimm’s fairytale story of Snow White both in its plot and character, and is regarded as a film that is made with a conscious feminist agenda.
This article analyses the portrayals of three different ethnicities through the leading characters, which are Dr. Gregory House, Dr. Robert Chase, Dr. Eric Foreman and Dr. Chi Park, in the medical drama House, M.D. As medical drama not only exposes the world of medicine to the audiences but also shapes public perceptions about how the physicians and health care system work, this article attempts to show how racial discriminations occur among the physicians? biomedical authority and expertise. Through textual analysis, this article argues that the show not only deconstructs and reinforces the widely-accepted, stereotypical images of African-Americans and Asians but also represents white supremacy in the United States."
