An excellent introductory text, this book covers the basic theoretical, algorithmic and real-time aspects of digital signal processing (DSP). Detailed information is provided on off-line, real-time and DSP programming and the reader is effortlessly guided through advanced topics such as DSP hardware design, FIR and IIR filter design and difference equation manipulation. There are many practical examples illustrated throughout plus an accompanying CD which provides programs that demonstrate equations discussed in the text, enabling the reader to incorporate algorithms into their own DSP programs.

ABSTRACT
Digital signal processing is concerned with the representation of signals by sequences of number or symbols and the processing of the sequences. The purpose of such processing may be to estimate characteristic parameters of a signal or to transform a signal into a form which is in some sense more desirable. The classical numerical analysis formulas, such as those designed for interpolation, integration, and differentiation, are certainly digital signal processing algorithms.
The early work on speech and the like - topics still of considerable interest and still the object of active research began less than two decade ago. The rapid development of the subject can be appreciated by scanning the issues of the leading journals. Yet the application of digital signal processing has not been without its problems. It is a field which demands sophisticated technology.

Teknologi digital yang berkembang sekarang menyebabkan adanya data berbentuk digital, rermasuk data citra diam (image). Tetapi keterbatasan teknologi media penyimpanan digital dan kecepatan saluran transmisi menyebabkan diperlukannya teknologi untuk kompresi gambar yang handaL Salah satu tekoologi kompresi citra diam yang dapat diandalkan adalah Embedded Block Coding with Optimized Truncarion(EBCOT). Teknologi EBCOT melaknkan kompresi dengan mengganti parameter dari nilai-nilai koefisien citra dengan parameter pengganti yang lebih kecil uknrannya. Proses ini yang disebut dengan truncal ion. Dipakainya basis transformasi wavelet diharapkan dapat menutupi kekurangan yang terdapat pada EBCOT dalam memampatkan citra heterogen. Sedangkan penggunaan Arithmetic Coding setelah proses EBCOT akan membantu besamya rasio kompresi citta tanpa menghilangkan nilai kualitas dari citra yang dimampatkan. Untuk melihat keandalan kompresi EBCOT maka dilakukan perhitungan parameter pada kompresi citra diam. Dari basil perhitungan dapat diketabui bahwa step size kuantisasi untuk EBCOT akan barpengaruh terhadap basil perhitungan. Semakin besar faktor kuantisasi maka semakin basar rasio kompresi dan semakin kecil PSNR(Peak Signal to Noise Ratio).
