[Supply chain risk management is an issue that many companies face and yet few companies know how to deal with it in a systematic and pragmatic manner. While avoiding and reducing supply chain risks are certainly preferable, developing ways to restore and stabilize supply chain operations rapidly after a major disruption is critical for managing global supply chains. Sodhi and Tang present important concepts, frameworks, strategies, and analyses that are essential for managing supply chain risks. Not only does this book suggest some practical ways to work with different partners to manage the risks that are present in a global supply chain, it creates a framework that would enable practitioners to engage researchers to work on this important area., Supply chain risk management is an issue that many companies face and yet few companies know how to deal with it in a systematic and pragmatic manner. This work encapsulates the essential developments in this field into a single resource, as well as to set an agenda for further development in the field. This brief focuses on the demand flexibility in supply chains with fragmented results distributed throughout the literature. These results have strong implications for managing real-world complex operations planning problems.
This book exploits dimensions of demand flexibility in supply chains and characterizes the best fit between demand properties and operations capabilities and constraints. The origins and seminal works are traced in integrated demand and operations planning and an in-depth documentation is provided for the current state of the art. Systems with inherent costs and constraints that must respond to some set of demands at a minimum cost are examined. Crucial unanswered questions are explored and the high-value research directions are highlighted for both practice and for the development of new and interesting optimization models and algorithms.

The field of logistics continues to develop at a remarkable pace. Until recently, logistics was barely considered in long-term plans of even major companies, but its strategic role is now recognised and it lies at the heart of long-term plans in almost every business. There are many reasons for this change: communications and information technology are offering new opportunities; world trade is growing; competition is forcing operations to adopt new practices and become evermore efficient; and there is increasing concern for the environment. Add to this the increased emphasis on consumer satisfaction, flexible operations and time compression, and it becomes clear why it is so important to get logistics right. This edition has been thoroughly revised and updated to reflect the latest trends, best practices, and cutting-edge thinking on global logistics. This leading title provides guidance on important topics, including agile supply chains, IT, sustainability and performance management, collaboration, outsourcing and humanitarian logistics.

It's not enough for companies to simply try to find ways to save money through suppliers. If suppliers aren't fully integrated into their corporate strategy, there's no way for companies to ensure that they will continue to save money...and that their supply decisions will fit with changing organizational goals. Blending theory, best practices, and relevant examples, "The Supply-Based Advantage" reveals how to design, build, maintain, and 'remodel' an organization's supply base to support its total business strategy and operations. Filled with enlightening examples from companies including Mars, Procter & Gamble, Intel, and Wal-Mart, this book shows how any organization can transform their supply function into a key driver of profit.
