"Tulisan ini mengidentifikasi pembentukan identitas budaya karakter utama di dalam novel The Kite Runner dan The Reluctant Fundamentalist. Melalui analisis teks, penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa identitas budaya Amir terus didominasi oleh budaya Afganistan. Sementara itu, sebagai seorang Pakistan Amerika, Changez memiliki identitas budaya yang lebih dinamis dan adaptif. Penelitian ini menjabarkan tiga faktor pendukung yang membentuk identitas budaya karakter utama sebagai orang Asia Amerika, yaitu peristiwa bersejarah; budaya di Afganistan, Pakistan dan Amerika; kekeluargaan, hubungan dengan masyarakat dan lingkungan sekitar.

This paper identifies the cultural identity construction of the main characters in The Kite Runner and The Reluctant Fundamentalist. Through textual analysis, this study points out that Amir’s cultural identity is constantly dominated by Afghanistan culture. Meanwhile, as a Pakistani American, Changez has a more dynamic and adaptive cultural identity. This study elaborates the three contributing factors that shape the main characters’ cultural identity as Asian Americans, namely historical moments; the culture in Afghanistan, Pakistan and America; and kinship, relationship with societies and the environment."

"ABSTRAKTesis ini bertujuan untuk memperlihatkan keterkaitan ruang dengan identitas dalam novel The Leavers (2017) karya Lisa Ko yang berfokus pada tokoh bernama Deming Guo yang nantinya menjadi Daniel Wilkinson. Novel tersebut dianalisi dengan menggunakan teori Hall (1990) dan Longhurst, dkk. (2008). Hasil analisis menunjukkan adanya krisis identitas pada tokoh generasi kedua imigran Cina yang disebabkan oleh perubahan ruang dan dominasi budaya di dalamnya. Budaya dominan dalam setiap ruang menimbulkan krisis identitas pada tokoh Deming/Daniel sehingga perlu adanya upaya beradaptasi dalam ruang tersebut. Ruang homogen memberikan tekanan yang lebih berat dibandingkan dengan ruang heterogen. Perbedaan tersebut disebabkan oleh adanya pembagian ruang publik dan ruang privat sehingga menghasilkan dominasi yang lebih longgar. Strategi negosiasi yang digunakan oleh tokoh perlu memperhatikan karakteristik ruang yang ditinggali. ABSTRACTThis thesis aims to explicate the linkage of space with identity crisis in Lisa Kos The Leavers (2017) which focuses on the character of Deming Guo who renamed as Daniel Wilkinson. Theories that are initiated by Hall (1990) dan Longhurst, et al. (2008) is used to analyze this novel. The result of the analysis indicates an identity crisis in the second generation of Chinese immigrants caused by changes in space and dominance in it. The dominant culture in each space forms a different identity causing an identity crisis on Deming/Daniel character. Therefore, adaptation needs to be pursued to minimize the identity crisis. Homogeneous space provides more severe pressure than heterogeneous space. This difference is caused by the division of homogeneous space into public spaces and private space resulting in more loose dominance. Negotiation strategies used need to consider the space characteristics. Identity can be formed according to the container that holds it. The nature of identity can adversely affect the awareness of identity so it needs to be negotiate"

"ABSTRAKSkripsi ini membahas tentang krisis identitas yang terjadi pada diaspora Korea di Rusia dan Asia Tengah. Krisis identitas ini mengakibatkan terjadi negosiasi dalam diri seseorang untuk menentukan identitas yang ia butuhkan. Penelitian ini berbeda dari penelitian terdahulu yang hanya membahas novel Daramjwi dengan pendekatan struktural. Penulis beragumen bahwa krisis identitas terjadi karena tidak adanya usaha dari masyarakat ras asli yang dominan untuk mau berempati dengan ras minoritas pendatang. Argumen tersebut berbeda dengan studi-studi terdahulu yang menyebutkan bahwa diskriminasi terjadi karena ras minoritas dan peraturan penguasa saat itu yang tidak menerima migran datang ke Rusia. Penulis menggunakan metode studi pustaka dengan novel Daramjwi karangan Anatoli Kim sebagai korpus. Novel ini dipilih karena novel Daramjwi merupakan novel karangan seorang penulis representasi etnis Korea di Rusia. Penulis juga mengumpulkan data berupa sejarah diaspora Korea, biografi Anatoli Kim, dokumenter, dan berita yang terkait dengan penelitian untuk mendukung argumen. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa krisis identitas terjadi karena diskriminasi yang terus menerus tanpa ada empati dari etnis asli Rusia.

ABSTRACTThis thesis discusses the identity crisis that occurred in the Korean diaspora in Russia and Central Asia. The identity crisis results in negotiations within a person to choose the identity he needs. This research is different from previous researches which only discussed Daramjwi with Structural Approach. I argue that the identity crisis occurs caused by the effortlessness of the dominant indigenous to empathize with minority race immigrants. The argument differs from previous studies which suggest that discrimination occurred because of the minority race problem and current ruling rules that did not accept migrants came to Russia. The author uses literature study method with Daramjwi by Anatoli Kim as the corpus. This novel was chosen because the novel was written by an author of Korean ethnic representation in Russia. I also collected data on Korean diaspora history, Anatoli Kim 39 s biography, documentaries, and news that were related to support the arguments. This study shows that the identity crisis occurs because of continuous discrimination without any empathy from ethnic native Russia."

Sumber data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah novel KetemuSuwiraning Daging karya Ch. Is Sarjoko yang diterbitkan oleh Penerbit Azzagrafika Yogyakartapada tahun 2013. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguraikan pengaruh stratifikasi sosial terhadappercintaan antara Harjo dan Artanti di dalam novel Ketemu Suwiraning Daging. Metode yangdigunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah deskriptif-analisis. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwadi dalam kehidupan, perbedaan stratifikasi sosial tidak dapat menghalangi hubungan kasih asmara.

Hasil analisis novel fantastik ini menunjukkan bahwa novel tersebut menampilkan ciri-ciri fantastik dalam wujud sang tokoh utama yang bernama Konrad, yang terlahir dari kaleng dengan karakter yang telah diatur dari pabrik.
