"Firms without research and development (R&D) have frequently been neglected by mainstream innovation research. The small number of existing studies provides only fragmented and sometimes even contradictory findings, because they assume that non-R&D-performing firms show a “typical”, homogeneous innovation pattern. Oliver Som challenges this assumption. Based on current firm-level data of the German industry, he provides pioneer quantitative evidence of five heterogeneous innovation patterns of non-R&D-performers. The findings impressively underline the need for future innovation research, management and policy to extend their view on innovation beyond the scope of R&D."

"This book mainly addresses the applications of lasers in the manufacture of various industrial components. The technologies presented here have scopes of application ranging from the macro to meso and micro level of components and features. This book includes chapters on the basic and advanced applications of lasers in the manufacturing domain. They present theoretical and practical aspects of laser technology for various applications such as laser-based machining, micro-scribing, texturing, machining of micro-sized channels; laser welding; laser-based correction of sheet metal, i.e. straightening; laser forming; and laser technology for 3-D printing. Lasers have various applications such as the production of powerful lights for illumination or decoration; measurement of velocity (transportation) and length; interferometry; printing; recording; communication; bio-medical instrumentation and pollution detection. A significant body of literature is available on the physics of lasers and types of lasers. However it has been noted there are a few books published on the “applications of lasers in manufacturing domain,” a gap that this book remedies. Gathering contributions by leading engineers and academicians in this area, it offers a valuable source of information for young scientists and research students."

"PT. Sementara work-life balance PT. X terutama divisi sales and marketing menjadi tinggi. X divisi sales and marketing.
PT. X is an electronic company that still exists even though the Indonesianelectronics industry is currently weakening. This is evident from two giantelectronics companies from Japan closed its factory in Indonesia, namelyPanasonic and Toshiba. In career development, PT. X has the education andtraining that employees can follow in every position. While work life balance ofPT. X in Indonesia does not follow the work life balance program owned by PT. X in Japan. This is then considered to make the turnover rate at PT. X especiallythe sales and marketing division is high. While one way in employee retention isto do a structured career development and work life balance support facilities. This research approach is quantitative by using primary data in the form ofquestionnaire to describe the influence of career development, work life balance, and employee retention. Population survey in this research is PT. X and the targetpopulation in this study are all employees of sales and marketing division of PT.X which amounts to 60 people. The result of career development and work lifebalance positively affect employee retention at PT. X sales and marketingdivision."

To maintain competitiveness in the era of global competition, product innovation in the defense industry is a very decisive key factor. The majority of the defense industry is known to have problems with the weak absorption of product innovation results so that many research results are accumulated and have no commercialized value. This situation forces the defense industry to continue to discover and improve capabilities in product innovation. The government has implemented many programs to improve the defense industry in Indonesia, however, to meet the demand for defense equipment, Indonesia still depends on imports. The purpose of this research is to obtain a strategy to increase defense industry innovation by using Policy Analysis, especially in the political, economic, social, technological, legal and environmental aspects (PESTLE). Qualitative modeling using the Causal Loop Diagram (CLD) was chosen to map the relationships between related elements. The research was conducted by direct observation, semi-structured interviews, and webinars related to the defense industry. The Causal Loop Diagram shows that in the system five loops are identified which are divided into two balancing loops and four mutually reinforcing loops. This study produces a conceptual model to simulate an alternative strategy to increase innovation in defense industrial products based on a policy analysis of current phenomena and several syntheses of previous research results. The results of this study indicate that the Defense Innovation Product/DIP development in the defense industry requires very large funds, long development time, expertise and sophisticated technology. The proposed policy innovation to support DIP, namely the necessity to buy DIP from within the country for equipment products that have been produced domestically, the purchase of DIP from abroad must be supported in cooperation with local DIP and offset (technology transfer), import DIP is subject to high taxes, the Government assisting the marketing of local DIP for export with the G to G cooperation. The implications of the research results are also discussed further so that they can be used as a reference for further research for other industrial sectors."

With the industrial revolution that is now taking place the world is experiencing a new phenomenon called "The New Normal". Where this situation is explained by variability, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity (VUCA). To overcome this, the manufacturing industry in Indonesia there is a need for process innovation. In this research, process innovation is illustrated by machine investment (automation) which is based on theory having an ambiguous impact on labor demand. The impact is that it can be felt that increasing the demand for labor and reducing it. Using industrial statistics panel data from 2004 to 2015, we want to see what the real impact of investment in labor productivity machinery is on labor demand in the Indonesian manufacturing industry. The results of this study prove that investing in machines has a positive impact on productivity. Companies that invest in machinery have a greater number of workers than those who do not. This study also found that innovations carried out by capital-intensive and labor-intensive companies did not have a different impact. Finally, this study also finds that the investment time also has a significant effect on labor demand."
