"Artikel ini berusaha mengungkapkan sosok wanita ideal yang ditampilkan melalui tokoh utama wanita dalam cerita pendek L'Inutile Beauté karya Guy de Maupassant. Cerita pendek yang mengisahkan tentang kalangan bangsawan tinggi ini ingin menmperlihatkan bahwa keutamaan seorang wanita dinilai bukan dari sekedar kecantikan paras belaka namun juga ditunjukkan dalam kecantikan sikap dan hati sebagai seorang wanita serta kesadaran akan kedudukan dan haknya di masyarakat. La Comtesse de Mascaret dalam cerita ini memiliki semua unsur yang dituntut sebagai wanita utama tersebut. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan struktural dari Roland Barthes.

This article tries to reveal the image of an ideal woman which is shown by the main woman character of Guy de Maupassant's short story titled L'Inutile Beauté. This short story which tell us about the noblesse in French society aims to show that the beauty of a woman is not only matter of a physical appearance but also the beauty of her attitude, responsibility as a mother and wife, the heart as a true woman, and the awareness of her position and rights in society as well. "Artikel ini membahas mengenai sebuah cerita pendek berjudul Madame Baptiste karya Guy de Maupassant. Cerpen ini menceritakan kisah seorang perempuan yang bunuh diri akibat tekanan masyarakat akan masa lalunya sebagai seorang korban perkosaan. Maupassant adalah seorang penulis beraliran naturalis. Karya-karyanya seringkali merupakan cerminan realitas sosial dalam masyarakat. Ia terutama sangat tertarik dengan tema perempuan dan patriarki yang merupakan topik hangat pada abad ke-19. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukan bentuk-bentuk dominasi budaya patriarki yang terdapat dalam cerpen. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah penggabungan antara pendekatan struktural dan pendekatan sosiologi sastra. Hasil analisis menunjukkan adanya dominasi patriarki dalam berbagai aspek kehidupan tokoh utama.

This article discusses a short story entitled Madame Baptiste by Guy de Maupassant. It tells the story of a woman who committed suicide due to public pressure on her past as a rape victim. Maupassant is a naturalist writer. His works are often a reflection of the society. He was particularly interested in women themes and patriarchy which was a very popular topic in the 19th century. This study aims to find forms of patriarchal dominance contained in the short story. The method used in this research is merging between structural approach and sociology of literature. The results of the analysis indicate that patriarchal domination exists in every aspects of the main character's life."

"Artikel ini berusaha untuk mengungkap makna yang terkandung dalam cerita pendek yang berjudul Le Père karya Guy de Maupassant dengan menggunakan pendekatan struktural dari Roland Barthes. Guy de Maupassant terkenal dengan ciri khas karyanya yang banyak menceritakan tentang rasa pesimis. Sama halnya dengan cerita pendek yang mengisahkan tentang seorang pria bernama François Tessier yang jatuh cinta kepada wanita bernama Louise ini, dalam cerita ini ia ingin menunjukkan bahwa penyesalan atas suatu kesalahan atau perbuatan buruk akan selalu datang terakhir dan terkadang, saat penyesalan itu datang, seseorang sudah terlalu terlambat untuk bisa memperbaiki semuanya. Tidak ada yang bisa dilakukan lagi untuk menebus kesalahan yang telah dilakukan dan yang tersisa tinggallah penyesalan dan kehampaan yang akan terus menghantui kehidupan seseorang. Tokoh François Tessier dalam cerpen ini menunjukkan betapa menyiksa dan menderitanya seseorang apabila menjalani kehidupan yang selalu dibayangi oleh penyesalan akan masa lampau dan di waktu yang bersamaan ia tidak berdaya untuk berbuat apapun untuk keluar dari penderitaan tersebut.

This article attempts to reveal the meaning behind Guy de Maupassant’s short story Le Père using Roland Barthes’s theory of structural approach. Guy de Maupassant is always known with his own characteristic in his works which often portray the pessimism as the main theme. The same goes with this short story which tells about a man named François Tessier who was deeply in love with a woman named Louise. This story wants to show us that the regret upon our past mistakes and bad behavior always come late and sometimes, when the regret comes, it is just too late to fix everything. Nothing can be done to make everything right and what left is only the regret and emptiness which will always haunt us. François Tessier’s character in this story pictures how suffocating and excruciating a life can be if someone is haunted by a lifetime remorse while at the same time he can do nothing to escape from the misery."

This article focuses on pessimism in Guy de Maupassant’s Garçon, Un Bock! based on the context of pessimism by Arthur Schopenhauer. Variety of texts gathered from Garçon, Un Bock!, specifically those contained pessimism idea. Those primary datas are reviewed from the standpoint of pessimism delivered by Arthur Schopenhauer. The result shows that Garçon, Un Bock! has the similar characteristics as the concept of pessimism written by Arthur Schopenhauer. Thus, it can be concluded that Garçon, Un Bock! is a form of pessimism writing."

"Cerita pendek yang berjudul Clochette karya Guy de Maupassant adalah korpus dari penelitian ini. Maupassant yang merupakan penulis beraliran realisme, mengangkat tema perempuan yang mendapatkan ketidakadilan dari laki-laki. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menunjukkan bentuk-bentuk kekuasaan patriarki dalam cerita pendek Clochette serta memperlihatkan subyektifitas Maupassant dalam menulis karya ini. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan struktural yakni unsur sintagmatik dan paradigmatik, karena penelitian ini lebih membahas mengenai unsur tekstual yakni hubungan kausal alur serta hubungan antar tokoh. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah ditemukan bentuk kekuasaan patriarki pada alur, penokohan, dan narator, namun hal itu dipatahkan oleh sikap resisten Hortense serta diangkatnya citra Hortense oleh tokoh laki-laki dalam cerita ini. Kemudian didukung juga oleh pemikiran Maupassant mengenai perempuan yang dituangkan pada karya-karyanya, yakni mengangkat citra perempuan dengan cara membuat pembaca merasa simpati dengan tokoh perempuan tersebut.

The short story entitled Clochette by Guy de Maupassant is the corpus of this research. Maupassant is a realist author who usually stated the theme of men rsquo;s injustice against women. The purpose of this study is to show the forms of patriarchal domination in Clochette 39;s short story and to show Maupassant 39;s subjectivity. The method used in this research is a qualitative research with a structural approach, that is syntagmatic and paradigmatic elements because this study is more about the textual elements of the causal relationship and the relationship between the characters. The result of this research shows the patriarchal domination forms on plot, characterization, and narrator, but it was sued by Hortense 39;s resistant attitudes and the lifting of Hortense 39;s image by the male character in the story. It is also supported by Maupassant 39;s thoughts on women who poured on his works, namely to lift the image of women by making the reader sympathize with the female character. "

"ABSTRAKPenelitian ini membahas ciri-ciri fantastik dalam sebuah teks sastra. Cerita fantastik ditegaskan dengan keraguan yang dialami oleh tokoh dalam cerita dan pembaca cerita. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menunjukkan ciri-ciri fantastik yang terdapat di dalam cerpen ?La Morte? karya Guy de Maupassant dengan menggunakan ancangan struktural dengan teori dari Roland Barthes dan Tzvetan Todorov. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa ciri-ciri fantastik dapat dilihat dari beberapa unsur instrinsik cerpen yaitu, alur cerita yang menampilkan peristiwa natural dan supranatural yang menimbulkan keraguan pada tokoh dan pembaca, tokoh yang mempertanyakan peristiwa aneh, kemunculan tokoh supranatural seperti tengkorak, penggunaan latar ruang dan waktu dalam cerpen yang menunjukkan kesan suram dan terpencil, penggunaan sudut pandang ambigu yang mengungkapkan peristiwa hanya sebatas apa yang diketahui oleh penutur, serta banyaknya diksi dan ungkapan yang menimbulkan kesan fantastik.ABSTRACTThis research discusses the fantastic elements in a literary text. Fantastic story is confirmed by doubts experienced by the characters in the story and the reader. This research aims to demonstrate the fantastic elements contained in the short story "La Morte" by Guy de Maupassant using structural approach with theories of Roland Barthes and Tzvetan Todorov. The analysis showed that the fantastic elements can be seen by the intrinsic substances of the short story, such as the story line featuring the natural and supernatural events that cause doubt on the characters and the reader, character who questioned bizarre events, the appearance of supernatural character like the skull, the space and time background of the story that show the impression of bleak and desolate, the ambiguous point of view that reveals the events are limited only to what is known by the speaker and many dictions that give the fantastic impression."

"ABSTRAKDalam karya sastra, perempuan direpresentasikan dengan nilai-nilai yang seringkali mengerdilkan dan merendahkan selama berabad-abad. Artikel ini meneliti bagaimana perempuan direpresentasikan dalam Clair de Lune, sebuah cerita pendek karya Guy De Maupassant yang ditulis pada abad ke-19. Artikel ini berupaya melihat nilai-nilai tradisional yang merepresentasikan perempuan (yaitu, perempuan sebagai makhluk yang tercela, perempuan sebagai penggoda, cinta dan kelembutan sebagai kekuatan perempuan atas laki-laki) melalui perspektif sosiologi dan sastra. Artikel ini menunjukkan bagaimana gambaran buruk tentang perempuan dalam cerita, nyatanya, adalah kekuatan mereka atas laki-laki. Selain itu, artikel ini juga menggugat gagasan bahwa perempuan terjebak di dalam penindasan laki-laki. Artikel ini menyimpulkan bahwa cerita Clair de Lune berbicara untuk maslahat perempuan.

ABSTRACTOver the centuries in literature works, women have been represented with values that are oftentimes diminutive and deprecative. This article examines how women are represented in Clair de Lune, a short story by Guy de Maupassant written in the 19th century. This article attempts to see the traditional values women are being represented with (i.e., women as a despisable being, women as a seducer, love and softness as womens power over men) through a sociology and literature perspective. It addresses how the deprecative images of the women in the story are, in fact, their power over men. It also challenges the notion where women are trapped under mens oppression. This article concludes that the short story is actually speaking in womens favor."

"[ABSTRAK Simone de Beauvoir melihat terdapat dualitas seksual dalam masyarakat yang menjadikan perempuan sebagai gender kedua. Laki-laki dianggap sebagai makhluk yang lebih tinggi daripada perempuan, bahkan hanya laki-laki yang disebut sebagai human sedangkan perempuan menjadi liyan. Dalam cerpen Le Vengeur karya Guy de Maupassant ini, dualitas seksual dapat terlihat melalui tokoh Leuillet dan Mathilde. Penelitian pada cerpen ini menggunakan pendekatan struktural dari Roland Barthes. Dualitas seksual dapat dilihat melalui analisis sintagmatik dan analisis semantik naratif. Melalui cerpen, perbedaan peran laki-laki dan perempuan dapat dilihat melalui tokoh Leuillet yang menjadi penggerak utama cerita, sedangkan Mathilde hanya berperan sebagai pendukung cerita. Tokoh Mathilde ada jika tokoh Leuillet menggerakkan cerita, dan tokoh Mathilde tidak dapat muncul di awal dengan sendirinya.
