"Tugas akhir ini adalah membangun sebuah perangkat lunak Mobile Citizen Media, yaitu suatu media yang menjembatani masyarakat untuk saling bertukar informasi dengan menggunakan jaringan telepon seluler GSM dan UMTS. Mobile Citizen Media adalah sebuah media yang menfasilitasi kegiatan Citizen Journalism. Perangkat lunak Mobile Citizen Media memiliki tiga komponen penting yaitu pengirim, pengolah, dan penyaji. Pengirim adalah bertindak sebagai Citizen Journalism, dibantu menggunakan sebuah perangkat lunak pada telepon seluler yang dibangun menggunakan pemograman J2ME. Telepon seluler yang digunakan harus medukung MIDP 2.0 dan CLDC 1.1. Pengolah dan penyaji adalah website application yang bertugas mengolah dan menampilkan informasi yang diterimanya dengan membuat suatu database server MySQL. Pada proses pengiriman data dari pengirim dan penerima dilakukan pengompresan data teks menggunakan teknik kompresi LZW. Ujicoba pertama dilakukan dengan pengompresan data teks pada sisi client. Data teks akan dikompresi jika ukurannya lebih besar sama dengan 460 byte, dengan titik saturasi efisiensi sebesar 36% dicapai pada saat data berukuran lebih besar sama dengan 3027 byte. Ujicoba kedua dilakukan dengan memanfaatkan jaringan telepon seluler GSM dan UMTS. Pada jaringan GSM, diperlukan waktu pengunggahan selama 0.49 detik per Kbyte, sedangkan pada jaringan UMTS diperlukan waktu pengunggahan selama 0.28 detik per Kbyte.

This final task is to build a software Mobile Citizen Media, a media that is a bridge for people to exchange information with the mobile phone based on GSM and UMTS network. Citizen Media Mobile is a system that will help facilitating activities Citizen Journalism. A software Mobile Citizen Media has three important components, called the sender, processing, and displayer.

Sender is to act as Citizen Journalism assisted device using a mobile phone and a software is built by J2ME. Mobile phone has to support MIDP 2.0 and CLDC 1.1. Processing and displaying information is done by website combine with a MySQL database server. Before text data sent by sender, it will be compressed using LWZ compression technique.

The first trial conducted with data compression to the text on the client side. Text will be compressed if it's size is greater with 460 byte with saturation point of 36% efficiency achieved at the time of the data size is greater with the 3027 bytes. Testing is done with the second mobile phone network using the GSM and UMTS. In the GSM network, the time required for uploading is 0.49 seconds per Kbyte, while on the UMTS network, the time required for uploading is 0.28 seconds per Kbyte."

"Memasuki abad 21 kemajuan teknologi mentransformasi alur komunikasi pada media massa dari satu arah menjadi dua arah. Kemunculan Media Baru memberikan ruang baru bagi masyarakat untuk berpartisipasi dalam proses komunikasi massa. Makalah ini membahas bagaimana industri televisi, dalam kasus ini, News Enrertainment Television (NET.) memanfaatkan citizen journalism untuk menjembatani suara masyarakat. Dengan teknik wawancara, observasi, dan studi literatur ditemukan bahwa program NET. Citizen Journalist diciptakan untuk meningkatkan partisipasi audiens sebagai upaya untuk memperkaya konten dengan biaya yang lebih efisien.

Technological developments in the 21st century have transformed the communication flow in mass media from one-way into two-ways of communication flow. The rising of New Media opens up new possibility for people to participate in the process of mass communication interactively. This paper explains about how television industry, in this case, News Entertainment Television (NET.) utilizes citizen journalism to facilitate people's voices. By doing interview, observation and literature study, the writer found an interesting fact that NET. Citizen Journalist is a program created for increasing and fostering the audience engagement in order to enrich content with efficient cost."

"Twitter adalah media sosial yang mulai populer pada tahun 2009. Saat ini, penggunanya mencapai lebih dari 600 juta di seluruh dunia. Twitter dibuat sangat simpel yakni menyampaikan pesan untuk menjawab, “apa yang terjadi” dengan 140 karakter saja. Hal ini kemudian menjadi sangat populer karena digunakan untuk berbagai macam tujuan, mulai dari ekspresi, pencarian informasi hingga produksi berita. Sejak konflik di Timur Tengah memanas, Twitter mulai dimanfaatkan sebagai wadah untuk pewarta publik. Mereka dituntut untuk menyampaikan berita seakurat mungkin, dengan disertai gambar dan elemen pendukung lainnya. Hal ini tentunya baik untuk perkembangan masyarakat mengingat keterbukaan akan informasi semakin nyata. Namun hal tersebut terganjal oleh beberapa hal seperti kode etik jurnalistik dan dianggap kurang kredibelnya pewarta publik. Meski demikian, saat ini banyak berita yang diangkat dari topik yang sedang hangat di Twitter.

Twitter is a Social Media has been popular since 2009. Now, the user of this “blue bird” reach about 600 million around the globe. Twitter was born from the idea of Jack Dorsey in 2006 and it is quite simple, to answer the question,”whats happening?”only in 140 character length. Now, this unique characteristic became very popular and has been used for many purposes such as delivering expression through the net, seaching an information, until news production. Twitter also take a part in Middle East conflict, it has been become a channel to deliver information around the world about the conflict. Twitter transformed into citizen journalism (CJ) media. The CJ prosecuted to deliver the information as accurate as possible and also completed with picture and others supporting element. This phenomena shall be good for the people because, it will support the open information. But, the bad news is, CJ is often have a clash with Journalistic Ethic Code and sometime, CJ are considered by public as low in credibility. After all, now we can see so many news that coming from the hot topics in Twitter."

"Dewasa ini, pembelajaran menggunakan metode Mobile Learning telah menjadi alternatif yang seringkali dipilih oleh berbagai praktisi pendidikan di seluruh dunia karena fleksibilitas yang ditawarkan, antara lain melalui penggunaan podcast. Podcast dapat diartikan sebagai sebuah rangkaian data yang berbentuk audio dan/atau video yang dapat diakses melalui internet pada sebuah media elektronik. Tulisan ini akan membahas tentang penerapan media podcast sebagai media pembelajaran alternatif dalam dunia pendidikan, khususnya bagi mahasiswa. Penelitian dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode analisis komparatif yang membandingkan beberapa penelitian yang membahas topik serupa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa meskipun memiliki dampak positif, efektivitas podcast terletak pada kemampuannya untuk mendukung proses pembelajaran di kelas, bukan sebagai media pembelajaran utama. Selain itu, hambatan yang terjadi dalam penggunaan podcast dapat dilihat dari buruknya pemanfaatan media, masalah konektivitas, hingga perbedaan dalam ekspektasi, kebutuhan, dan preferensi calon pengguna podcast dengan kesesuaian materi yang disediakan.

Mobile Learning methods with the flexibility it offers, have become a favorable choice of the various education practitioners nowadays. Among others, through the use of podcasts. Podcasts are defined as a series of data in the form of audio, video, or audio-video, and are accessible to an electronic device with internet. This paper focuses on examining the application of podcasts as an alternative learning media in the world of education, particularly for students. Several studies with similar topics are analyzed using the comparative analysis method in this research. The results, however, showed that despite having positive impacts, the effectiveness of the podcast lies not as main learning media, but as a supporting tool in the classroom. Moreover, limitations that befall its use can include poor media practices, connectivity problems, to the disparity in expectations, needs, and preferences of prospective podcast users with the suitability of the material provided."

"Tesis ini membahas kolaborasi citizen journalist dan jurnalis professional di media online, khususnya di media online Hipwee. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif dengan metode studi kasus dan strategi penelitian single case study. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kolaborasi citizen journalist dan media online Hipwee dilakukan melalui platform Hipwee Community. Bentuk kolaborasi yang dilakukan oleh citizen journalist (kontributor) dan Hipwee adalah pembuatan konten tulisan dan video, pengembangan kanal Hipwee, pembelajaran menulis di kegiatan online dan offline dan penyebaran informasi kepada masyarakat terkait berbagai kegiatan Hipwee. Namun kolaborasi ini tidak berjalan dengan baik. Penelitian mengungkapkan bahwa karakteristik media online, peran jurnalis professional, jurnalis amatir, peran editor dan syarat inti kolaborasi Pro-Am journalism ‘Bruns’ mempengaruhi kolaborai citizen journalist dan jurnalis professional di media online.

This thesis discusses the collaboration of citizen journalists and professional journalists in online media, especially in Hipwee online media. This research is a qualitative research with a case study method with a single case study research strategy. The results showed that the collaboration of citizen journalist and online media Hipwee was carried out through the Hipwee Community platform. Forms of collaboration undertaken by citizen journalists (contributors) and Hipwee are the creation of written and video content, the development of Hipwee channels, learning to write in online and offline activities and the dissemination of information to the public regarding various Hipwee activities. But this collaboration did not go well. The study revealed that the characteristics of online media, the role of professional journalists, amateur journalists, the role of editors and the core conditions of Pro-Am journalism 'Bruns' collaboration influence the collaboration of citizen journalists and professional journalists in online media."
