"Summarizing the evidence and highlighting research from the past 20 years, the authors discuss lateralization from four perspectives - function, evolution, development, and causation - covering a wide range of animals including humans. The evolution of lateralization is traced from our earlier ancestors, through fish and reptiles to birds and mammals. The benefits of having a divided brain are discussed, as well as the influence of experience on its development. A final chapter discusses outstanding problems and areas for further investigation."

Minangkabau ethnic group known is very strictly implement custom of matrilineal. One of these values is male position (sumando) that marginal, because according to matrilineal custom, a man is urang asing (outsiders) in the group of women (wife families). This is expressed through the proverb bak abu diateh tunggua (like ashes on the stump). This position of course is not profitable, so that they have to negotiate with the women to strengthen ?the identity of maleness" of them. It shows the politics movement of Minangkaba?s men in an effort to show and strengthen their identity. This political identity of Minangkabau?s man will be understood identity politics Minangkabau men will be understood in the case of the existence of traditional institutions. The research assumption, in Minangkabau society that embraces and strengthens matrilineal custom (women custom) was found that traditional institutions more dominated by men. While traditional institutions for women does not stand out, impress hidden, and there is no variation than bundo kanduang (the main women). This article to described how men of Minangkabau through traditional institutions reinforce the position, while the bundo Kanduang?s position only limited powers in rumah gadang alone. Moreover, bundo Kanduang understood even without any power, because bundo kanduang just as the wife of penghulu (clan leaders).

......The concept of diaspora has developed especially in the religion aspect which influences the identity negotiation of individuals or communities. Due to the large number of diasporas in the modern world, John Hinnells (1997, p. 686, in Vertovec, 2004, p. 279- 280) defines the religion in the context of a community of diaspora and religion as ‘traveling religion’ or ‘diaspora religion’ which means the religion of everyone who feels that they have been separated away from the religion of their homeland, living far from the ‘old country’; it includes a situation that represents the ‘minority phenomenon’. This research focuses on Homeland Elegies (2020) written by Ayad Akhtar. Homeland Elegies is an autofiction novel that shows the struggles of the Pakistani Muslim community to construct their identity in America. This study uses a structural analysis method with the narratological theory of Franz K. Stanzel and is supported by Stuart Hall’s theoretical formulation of identity as the key concept used in the analysis. This study aims to find how identity construction of Pakistani Muslims in America plays an important role in cultural negotiation through Americanness and belonging to America in autobiography fiction. The findings of this study show that duality of identity is presented as a tug-of- war negotiation between the old and new countries. This duality of identity presents a critique of Americanness which is a form of negotiation. The identity and belonging of Pakistani Muslims are also constructed by a sense of connection with American values and diaspora cultural homogenization.
