"Tesis ini membahas tentang kaum Asia-Amerika dalam sebuah serial TV Remaja buatan Amerika Glee. Analisis difokuskan pada bagaimana tim pembuatGlee mengkonstruksi identitas Asia-Amerika dan ideologi apa yang melatarbelakanginya. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dengan menggunakan paradigma critical constructionism dan analisis semiotic Roland Barthes untuk menganalisis teks adegan dalam serial Glee. Analisis terlebih dahulu dengan sintagmatik, yaitu lapisan informasional yang bisa terlihat dalam film, dilanjutkan dengan analisis paradigmatik yang menggunakan lima kode semiotika; hermeneutika, proairetik, kultural, simbolik dan semik.Hasil penelitian menyimpulkan bahwa produser Glee mengkonstruksi Asia-Amerika dibawah kesuperioritasan Amerika Serikat. Amerikanisme dan Rasisme menjadi ideologi yang melatarbelakangi konstruksi yang dilakukan produser Glee atas identitas Asia-Amerika.
This research focused on the representation of Asian-American in a teenage television series,Glee. It aims to find out how the producer of Glee constructs the identity of Asian-American and what is the ideology behind that construction. This is a qualitative research that is using critical constructionism as its paradigm and semiotic by Roland Barthes as the method to analyse the text. The analysis firstly done by syntagmatic, which shows the informational phase seen in a film, continued with paradigmatic analysis using the five codes of semiotic: hermeneutic, proairetic, cultural, symbolic and semic.The result of this research shows that the producer of Glee constructs the identity of Asian-American under the thought of American superiority. Americanism and raciscm are the ideologies behind the construction."

ABSTRAKSkripsi ini membahas mengenai nilai-nilai maskulinitas yang terkandung dalam film Ich Fühl Mich Disco dan mencoba meninjau lebih jauh tentang bagaimana nilai-nilai maskulinitas direpresentasikan dari perspektif yang berbeda dari setiap karakter pria dalam film ini yang memiliki pandangan berbeda tentang maskulinitas yang seharusnya ada di setiap diri pria. Maskulinitas sejatinya merupakan sebuah konstruksi masyarakat yang tidak baku dan dapat berbeda-beda dari perspektif masing-masing individu. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah membuktikan bahwa nilai maskulinitas bagi tiap karakter pria ternyata berbeda dan berpotongan satu sama lain. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa maskulinitas adalah sebuah konstruksi masyarakat tentang nilai-nilai yang harus dimiliki oleh seorang pria dan hal ini merupakan hal yang tentatif serta tidak bisa diberikan standar karena masing-masing individu memiliki perspektifnya masing-masing tentang maskulinitas.
ABSTRACTThis thesis discusses the values of masculinity that is contained in the film Ich Fühl Mich Disco and try further review of how the values of masculinity represented from different perspectives of every male character in the movie that have different notions of masculinity that should exist in every themselves men. True masculinity is a construction people who are not standardized and can vary from the perspective of each individual. The purpose of this study is to prove that the value of each character's masculinity for men was different and intersect each other."

ABSTRAKThis paper discusses the establishment of a kampong named Kemlayan which becomes the home of Abdi Dalem artists community of Surakarta palace during XVIII-XX century. The discussion is triggered by two major reasons. First, only few academic discourses present topics on the history of cultural village in Java since dynasties period to the establishment of Republic of Indonesia. Second, the existence of the kampong has not been written in the discussion of Islamic Mataram history. This paper discusses three problems, i.e. the establishment of kampong Kemlayan in which most of the residents are Abdi Dalem karawitan artists, the kampongs position in the power relation with the palace, and the societys attitude towards the kampong. In discussing those problems, this paper employs critical history method involving both primary and secondary sources. Kemlayan was established during the reign of Paku Buwana IV (1788-1821). The main motives of the establishment are the kings interests in karawitan and arts, and it became the political excuse to provide loyal groups of karawitan artists some territories to live in. Kemalyan was the only kampong whose residents were artists in Islamic Mataram era. It was not established and developed based on ethnicity, religion, or economic ambitions. It was based on Javanese tradition of karawitan. Further, the constant and consistent cultural activities by the residents of kampong Kemlayan chracterize their living spaces. In social contexts, Kemlayan is well known as the kampong of priyayi. Having the skills of playing gamelan instruments, priyayi artists often performed in prominent events. Positively, this brings a consequence that Kemlayan has been always acknowledged in Javanese traditional arts for more than a century."
