"Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis perilaku bunuh diri yang terdapat dalam film Koe no Katachi (2016) karya Yamada Naoko. Penulis menggunakan teori interpersonal bunuh diri Joiner dalam Van Orden (2010) dan Three-Step Theory of Suicide Klonsky dan May (2015) untuk menganalisis perilaku bunuh diri dalam film Koe no Katachi dengan metode mise en scene Monaco (2000). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perilaku bunuh diri yang digambarkan oleh film Koe no Katachi berupa pemikiran bunuh diri sebanyak empat kali (aktif dan pasif) dan percobaan bunuh diri yang digagalkan sebanyak satu kali. Selain itu, film ini tidak menampilkan pengetahuan bunuh diri yang dapat memicu fenomena suicide copycat. Film Koe no Katachi dapat dilihat sebagai refleksi situasi masyarakat Jepang dengan terus meningkatnya kasus bunuh diri remaja akibat perundungan. Peran orang-orang terdekat dari individu yang memiliki perilaku bunuh diri digambarkan menjadi solusi paling efektif dalam pencegahan bunuh diri. Sementara itu, partisipasi pihak-pihak seperti, pemerintah, sekolah, dan komunitas masyarakat yang seharusnya aktif dalam penanganan masalah ini terlihat minim. Oleh karena itu, film ini dapat dilihat sebagai kritik sosial kurangnya kepedulian institusi formal seperti sekolah dan negara terhadap perilaku bunuh diri dan perundungan remaja.

This study aims to analyze the suicidal behavior contained in the film Koe no Katachi (2016) by Yamada Naoko. The author uses Joiner's interpersonal theory of suicide in Van Orden (2010) and Klonsky and May's Three-Step Theory of Suicide (2015) to analyze suicidal behavior in Koe no Katachi film with Monaco’s (2000) mise en scene method. The results showed that the suicidal behavior described in Koe no Katachi consists of four suicidal thoughts (active and passive) and one failed suicide attempt. In addition, this film does not feature any suicide knowledge which can trigger the phenomenon of copycat suicide. Koe no Katachi can be seen as a reflection of current Japanese society, in which the number of adolescent suicides is increasing due to act of bullying. People who are closest to the suicidal individuals are described to be having a major role and are most effective in preventing the act of suicide. Meanwhile, participation of parties such as the government, schools, and communities in dealing with this matter are considered to be minimal. Therefore, this film can be seen as a social critique of formal institutions such as schools and the state due to their ignorance towards adolescent suicidal behavior and bullying."

"Tesis ini merupakan hasil dari penelitian bidang kejepangan yang difokuskan pada penelitian bidang sosial dan sejarah, dengan sedikit menyinggung bidang politik dan hukum. Latar belakang tesis ini adalah Jepang pada masa perang Asia Pasifik 1931-1945 yang kental dengan semangat militerisme. Pada masa itu Jepang mulai mengobarkan perang atas Cina, dan atas dorongan dari kaum militer, perang dengan Cina terus berlangsung dan semakin meningkat., hingga akhirnya Jepang berhadapan dengan kekuatan AS dan Sekutu. Dunia politik dan pemerintahan, beserta seluruh implementasi dari kebijakan yang dihasilkan merupakan kepanjangan tangan dari pihak militer masa itu. Dengan demikian, kondisi kehidupan sosial masyarakat Jepang juga tak dapat terlepas dari militerisme. Bahkan, banyak pakar yang mengatakan bahwa Jepang adalah contoh negara yang berhasil mengembangkan militerisme ke seluruh lapisan masyarakat untuk memperoleh dukungan dalam melakukan ekspansi dan peperangan.Akan tetapi, ditengah kentalnya militerisme Jepang pada masa itu, dalam teks Kike Wadatsumi no Koe penulis menemukan hal yang berbeda. Kike Wadatsumi no Koe adalah kumpulan tulisan berupa catatan harian, surat-surat pribadi, surat wasiat, maupun berupa puisi yang ditulis oleh para mahasiswa Jepang yang dikirim ke medan perang. Dalam tulisan tersebut didapati banyak pandangan yang tidak setuju terhadap sikap dan kebijakan militer Jepang, dan kelompok yang tidak setuju ini merupakan golongan yang dominan. Sementara itu, pandangan sebagian kecil dari mereka menyiratkan kesan "setuju" secara tidak langsung. Penulis menyebutnya secara tidak langsung karena mereka tidak berbicara mengenai substansi dari sikap dan kebijakan militer, melainkan hanya mengungkapkan rasa bangga dan terhormat untuk melakukan sesuatu bagi tanah air mereka tercinta."

"[Manga sebagai salah satu produk kebudayaan populer Jepang tidak hanya bertujuan sebagai media hiburan tetapi juga dapat digunakan sebagai media pembelajaran. Penelitian ini mengkaji mengenai gambaran watak tokoh utama yang dianalisis melalui penokohannya. Tujuannya adalah untuk mengungkapkan perubahan-perubahan watak yang dialami oleh tokoh utamanya, Shouya. Melalui hubungan Shouya dengan tokoh-tokoh yang memiliki pengaruh penting tersebut,penulis juga akan mengungkapkan pesan-pesan moral yang ingin disampaikan oleh pengarangnya secara tersirat. Dalam meneliti Koe no Katachi, penulis menggunakan metode pengumpulan data berupa studi dokumen. Hasil analisismenunjukkan bahwa terdapat perubahan-perubahan watak tokoh Shouya dan pesan-pesan moral yang berfungsi sebagai media pembelajaran.
