This book focuses on the different steps involved in the conception, implementation and application of EDAs that use Markov networks, and undirected models in general. It can serve as a general introduction to EDAs but covers also an important current void in the study of these algorithms by explaining the specificities and benefits of modeling optimization problems by means of undirected probabilistic models. All major developments to date in the progressive introduction of Markov networks based EDAs are reviewed in the book. Hot current research trends and future perspectives in the enhancement and applicability of EDAs are also covered. The contributions included in the book address topics as relevant as the application of probabilistic-based fitness models, the use of belief propagation algorithms in EDAs and the application of Markov network based EDAs to real-world optimization problems.

This book addresses the need for energy-efficient amplifiers, providing gain enhancement strategies, suitable to run in parallel with lower supply voltages, by introducing a new family of single-stage cascode-free amplifiers, with proper design, optimization, fabrication and experimental evaluation. The authors describe several topologies, using the UMC 130 nm CMOS technology node with standard-VT devices, for proof-of-concept, achieving results far beyond what is achievable with a classic single-stage folded-cascode amplifier. Readers will learn about a new family of circuits with a broad range of applications, together with the familiarization with a state-of-the-art electronic design automation methodology used to explore the design space of the proposed circuit family.

The volume LNCS 7269 constitutes the refereed proceedings of the International Symposium on Swarm Intelligence and Differential Evolution, SIDE 2012, held in Zakopane, Poland, in April/May 2012 in conjunction with the 11th International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Soft Computing, ICAISC 2012 (proceedings published as two-volume set LNAI 7267 and 7268). The 212 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 483 submissions. The volume is divided into two topical parts: proceedings of the 2012 symposium on swarm intelligence and differential evolution and on evolutionary algorithms and their applications.

Abstrak :
This book introduces the linkage between evolutionary computation and complex networks and the advantages of cross-fertilising ideas from both fields. Instead of introducing each field individually, the authors focus on the research that sits at the interface of both fields. The book is structured to address two questions: (1) how complex networks are used to analyze and improve the performance of evolutionary computation methods? (2) how evolutionary computation methods are used to solve problems in complex networks? The authors interweave complex networks and evolutionary computing, using evolutionary computation to discover community structure, while also using network analysis techniques to analyze the performance of evolutionary algorithms. The book is suitable for both beginners and senior researchers in the fields of evolutionary computation and complex networks.

Industrial applications of evolutionary algorithms is intended as a resource for both experienced users of evolutionary algorithms and researchers that are beginning to approach these fascinating optimization techniques. Experienced users will find interesting details of real-world problems, advice on solving issues related to fitness computation or modeling, and suggestions on how to set the appropriate parameters to reach optimal solutions. Beginners will find a thorough introduction to evolutionary computation, and a complete presentation of several classes of evolutionary algorithms exploited to solve different problems. Inside, scholars will find useful examples on how to fill the gap between purely theoretical examples and industrial problems. Chapters are grouped by three themes of particular interest for real-world applications, namely prototype-based validation, reliability and test generation. The authors hope that this volume will help to expose the flexibility and efficiency of evolutionary techniques, encouraging more companies to adopt them; and that, most of all, you will enjoy your reading.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 12th European Conference on Evolutionary Computation in Combinatorial Optimization, EvoCOP 2012, held in Málaga, Spain, in April 2012, colocated with the Evo* 2012 events EuroGP, EvoBIO, EvoMUSART, and EvoApplications. . The 22 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 48 submissions. The papers present the latest research and discuss current developments and applications in metaheuristics - a paradigm to effectively solve difficult combinatorial optimization problems appearing in various industrial, economic, and scientific domains. Prominent examples of metaheuristics are evolutionary algorithms, simulated annealing, tabu search, scatter search, memetic algorithms, variable neighborhood search, iterated local search, greedy randomized adaptive search procedures, estimation of distribution algorithms, and ant colony optimization.

The 15 revised full papers presented together with 8 poster papers were carefully reviewed and selected from numerous submissions. Computational Biology is a wide and varied discipline, incorporating aspects of statistical analysis, data structure and algorithm design, machine learning, and mathematical modeling toward the processing and improved understanding of biological data. Experimentalists now routinely generate new information on such a massive scale that the techniques of computer science are needed to establish any meaningful result. As a consequence, biologists now face the challenges of algorithmic complexity and tractability, and combinatorial explosion when conducting even basic analyses.
