Murakami, Haruki, 1949-
"A dazzling new collection of short stories--the first major new work of fiction from the beloved, internationally acclaimed, Haruki Murakami since his #1 best-selling Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage. Across seven tales, Haruki Murakami brings his powers of observation to bear on the lives of men who, in their own ways, find themselves alone. Here are vanishing cats and smoky bars, lonely hearts and mysterious women, baseball and the Beatles, woven together to tell stories that speak to us all. Marked by the same wry humor that has defined his entire body of work, in this collection Murakami has crafted another contemporary classic"--Provided by publisher."

"Makalah ini menganalisis karakter karasu to yobareru shounen (カラスと呼ばれる少年) dari novel Umibe no Kafuka (2002) karya Murakami Haruki.

This paper concerned in analyzing the reason for the appearance of the character karasu to yobareru shounen (カラスと呼ばれる少年) from Murakami Haruki’s novel Umibe no Kafuka (2002). This character is believed as the alter ego of the main character, Kafka Tamura. Since Kafka was a kid, his father has put a prophecy on him, that he will kill his father and sleep with his mother and sister. In order to escape the prophecy, the boy decides to run away from his home and stay in a library at Shikoku. This research will be done using analysis method based on Jacques Lacan’s psychoanalytic theory, the mirror stage. Based on the research, it can be said that karasu to yobareru shounen is the form of ideal-i -the ideal identification of Kafka Tamura. When he was in the identification stage, the image of the mother as the primary identification model, were missing because Kafka’s mother left him when he was 4 year old. So to replace the image of the mother as the ideal model, another ideal model was created, and identified as karasu to yobareru shounen. This identification is also hinted from the meaning of both names. Karasu in Japanese, has the same meaning as Kafka or kavka in Czech, which is a crow.
