"Competition for resources, recognition, and outcomes is a fact of life in organizational life. When one falls short in comparison to colleagues or subordinates, feelings of envy may arise. Envy is ubiquitous and painful fueled by inferiority, hostility, and resentment. At the same time envy is also a socially adaptive emotion signaling competitive disadvantages that must be dealt with. How people cope with envy at work continues to be a debated topic. Will they level up with their envied counterpart through self-improvement behaviors? Or will they level down through sabotage and undermining their peers and subordinates? The contributors to this volume, culled from many countries and an extraordinary range of disciplines, provide key insights into these and other question about workplace envy. Perspectives range from experimental social psychologists offering insights from lab studies to psychoanalytical oriented scholars with their emphasis on unconscious processes. Organizational psychologists also weigh in and describe ground-breaking findings from disparate work settings. Cross-cultural psychologists reveal the wide variety of ways that envy can emerge as a function of culture, ranging from the Japanese school system, to complex social systems of Java, and the fascinating structure of the Israeli kibbutzim. Also included are contemporary work by behavioral economists and organizational consultants, as well as an eclectic group of chapters focused on romantic relationships, leadership, and justice. This volume should also help scholars and practitioners understand the factors that help individuals and organizations overcome envy, indeed transform envy into something positive, thereby promoting workplace well-being.

"ABSTRAK
Kenaikan konsumsi dari barang-barang Veblen untuk semua gender memiliki beberapa limitasi dalam segi penelitian. Studi ini akan mengisi pertanyaan dibalik kenaikan trend tersebut dengan fokus pada rasa iri dalam masyarakat terhadap status sebagai pengaruh utamanya. Dan juga, sebagaimana konsumsi tersebut berlawanan antara budaya Belanda dan Indonesia. Pengumpulan data telah diambil dari peninjauan melalui kuesioner online kepada responden-responden muda. Meskipun hubungan positif dari rasa iri terhadap barang-brang Veblen dapat ditemukan, studi ini menunjukan bahwa status dan budaya tidak membentuk perbedaan antara konsumsi barang-barang Veblen dari bagian dunia barat ke timur.

ABSTRACT
The upsurge of unisex Veblen Goods consumption has some limitations in the research area. This study aims to fill the questions behind this incrementing trend by focusing on envy towards status in society inasmuch as the influencer. Also, whether this consumption contradicts across the Dutch and Indonesian cultures. The data collection used an online survey questionnaire for young respondents. Notwithstanding of positive relationships result in envy towards the purchase of Veblen goods, this study shows how both status and cultures do not much construct the diversity of Veblen goods consumption from the Western to the Eastern part of the world."

"Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk melihat pengaruh perbandingan kinerja terhadap ketertarikan laki-laki pada perempuan dalam konteks jarak psikologis spasial dekat yang dimoderasi oleh rasa iri dengan menggunakan desain eksperimental between-subjects design 2x2. Penelitian ini melibatkan 120 mahasiswa laki-laki Universitas Indonesia sebagai partisipan penelitian untuk mengungkapkan ketertarikan yang terbentuk ketika laki-laki merasa lebih baik (atau lebih buruk) dalam hal kinerja dibandingkan seorang perempuan dan melihat efek moderasi salah satu emosi yang muncul, yaitu rasa iri (tinggi atau rendah) terhadap hubungan pengaruh tersebut. Kinerja yang dimaksud meliputi pencapaian akademis dan non-akademis yang diperoleh sebagai mahasiswa. Rasa iri diharapkan timbul setelah dilakukan perbandingan kinerja yang dimiliki dengan kinerja seorang perempuan. Berdasarkan teknik analisis moderator yang dilakukan, diperoleh hasil bahwa terdapat pengaruh perbandingan kinerja pada ketertarikan, serta terdapat efek moderasi rasa iri dalam pengaruh perbandingan kinerja pada ketertarikan laki-laki terhadap perempuan dalam konteks jarak psikologis spasial dekat.

This research has conducted to see the influence of performance comparison on men?s attraction to women in psychological distance spatially near moderated by envy with between-subject design 2x2 experimental design. This research involve 120 male college student from University of Indonesia as a participant to reveal the attraction that formed when men feels outperformed (vs underperformed) by women in a context of performance and to see the effect of moderation from one of emotion that come out, that is envy (high or low), on that causality. Performance in this research is an academic or non-academic achievement as a college student. Envy is come from a comparison between their performance and women?s performance. Based on the moderator analysis, the result is there is an effect of performance comparison on attraction, and there is moderation effect of envy on effect of performance comparison on men?s attraction to women in psychological distance spatially near."
