Abstrak :
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Algebraic Biology, ANB 2010, held at the Castle of Hagenberg, Austria in July/August 2010. The conference is a follow up of the AB Conference. The 10 papers were carefully reviewed and selected from numerous submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on mathematical modeling, system analysis and design, genomics, molecular structure analysis, automata theory, artificial intelligence, sequence analysis, automated reasoning, formal language and hybrid symbolic numerical methods.

Abstrak :
The LNCS journal Transactions on Computational Systems Biology is devoted to inter- and multidisciplinary research in the fields of computer science and life sciences and supports a paradigmatic shift in the techniques from computer and information science to cope with the new challenges arising from the systems oriented point of view of biological phenomena. This, the 14th Transactions on Computational Systems Biology volume, guest edited by Ion Petre and Erik de Vink, focuses on computational models for cell processes and features a number of carefully selected and enhanced contributions, initially presented at the CompMod workshop, which took place in Aachen, Germany, in September 2011. The papers, written from different points of view and following various approaches, cover a wide range of topics within the field of modeling and analysis of biological systems. In addition, two regular submissions deal with models of self-assembling systems and metabolic constraints on the evolution of genetic codes.

Brazilian Symposium on Bioinformatics covers all aspects of bioinformatics and computational biology, including sequence analysis, motifs, and pattern matching, biological databases, data management, data integration, and data mining, biomedical text mining, structural, comparative, and functional genomics, personal genomics, protein structure, modeling, and simulation, gene identification, regulation and expression analysis, gene and protein interaction and networks, molecular docking, molecular evolution and phylogenetics, computational systems biology, computational proteomics, statistical analysis of molecular sequences, algorithms for problems in computational biology, applications in molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, medicine, microbiology and associated subjects.

Abstrak :
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 12th International Workshop on Algorithms in Bioinformatics, WABI 2012, held in Ljubljana, Slovenia, in September 2012. WABI 2012 is one of six workshops which, along with the European Symposium on Algorithms (ESA), constitute the ALGO annual meeting and focuses on algorithmic advances in bioinformatics, computational biology, and systems biology with a particular emphasis on discrete algorithms and machine-learning methods that address important problems in molecular biology. The 35 full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 92 submissions. The papers include algorithms for a variety of biological problems including phylogeny, DNA and RNA sequencing and analysis, protein structure, and others.

Abstrak :
The growth in the bioinformatics and computational biology fields over the last few years has been remarkable. The analysis of the datasets of next generation sequencing needs new algorithms and approaches from fields such as databases, statistics, Data mining, machine learning, optimization, computer science and artificial intelligence. Also systems biology has also been emerging as an alternative to the reductionist view that dominated biological research in the last decades. This book presents the results of the 6th International Conference on Practical Applications of Computational Biology & Bioinformatics held at University of Salamanca, Spain, 28-30th March, 2012 which brought together interdisciplinary scientists that have a strong background in the biological and computational sciences.

The 31 revised full papers presented together with 5 keynote lectures were carefully reviewed and selected from 200 submissions. The papers feature current research in all areas of computational molecular biology, including, molecular sequence analysis, recognition of genes and regulatory elements, molecular evolution, protein structure, structural genomics, analysis of gene expression, biological networks, sequencing and genotyping technologies, drug design, probabilistic and combinatorial algorithms, systems biology, computational proteomics, structural and functional genomics, and information systems for computational biology and imaging.

Abstrak :
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the International Symposium on Bioinformatics Research and Applications, ISBRA 2012, held in Dallas, Texas, USA, in May 2012. The 26 revised full papers presented together with five invited talks were carefully reviewed and selected from 66 submissions. The papers address issues on various aspects of bioinformatics and computational biology and their applications.

Abstrak :
The 15 revised full papers presented together with 8 poster papers were carefully reviewed and selected from numerous submissions. Computational Biology is a wide and varied discipline, incorporating aspects of statistical analysis, data structure and algorithm design, machine learning, and mathematical modeling toward the processing and improved understanding of biological data. Experimentalists now routinely generate new information on such a massive scale that the techniques of computer science are needed to establish any meaningful result. As a consequence, biologists now face the challenges of algorithmic complexity and tractability, and combinatorial explosion when conducting even basic analyses.
