"ABSTRAKHuaying Tingyu is the title given to a series of editions of english primers published in post-Opium War China. the author recently came accross a copy of a hitherto unknown edition of Huaying Tongyu, dated the 29th year of Daoguang (1849 A.D), in a stack room of the Osaka University Library. according to the author's analysis, it is most likely that it is the very first edition of Huaying Tongyu.The principal aim of the present article is to clarify the genealogical relationship between several early Chines English primers, including three editions of Huaying Tongyu. it will be demonstrated , among other things, that the Daoguang edition considerably draws upon Robert Thom's Chinese-English Vocabulary, Part first, published in 1843, and that all the subsequent editions of Huaying Tongyu were modeled after the Dagoguang edition.This article will also focus upon Fukuzawa Yukichi's annotated edition, Fukuzawa supplied each of the English words and sentences with a translation in Japanese and a phonetic transcription in the kana syllabary. the author will argue that Fukuzawa used the edition of Huaying Tongyu published in the 5th year of Xianfeng (1855 A.D), a copy of which is in possession of the Tohoku University Library, and clarify what changes, apart from the above -mentioned two types of annotation, Fukuzawa made to the original Chinese edition.In concluding sections, a few related issues involving the English primers treated here will be discussed."

"ABSTRAKThe Osaka University Department of Archaeology has been conducting a reevaluation of Nonaka Kofun, located in the Mozu-Furuichi Mounded Tomb group, which is currently on Japan's tentative list for nomination as UNESCO World Heritage Site. the artifacts from Nonaka Kofun are invaluable not only as representative example of a mass deposit of iron goods, but also as tools to aid in our understanding this important mounded tomb group.This report presents an overview of of recent conservation and utilization efforts conducted by Departments of Archaeology and presents selected results of artifact and X-ray CT analysis.Combining X-ray imaging and 3D data, x-ray CT analysis is an innovative method to measure and analyze cultural properties. the academic significance of the x-ray CT analysis conducted on a selection of the iron armor from Nanoka Kofun, which has long been highly valued within research on Kofun-period armor, cant be overstated. additionally, iron cuirass no. 11, information on which was hiherto unpublished, has been identified as a riveted rectangular-plate cuirass and a line drawing has been produce. furthermore, line drawings were newly produced for the agricultural implements (square blades and u-shaped blades) and tools (planes, knives and axe heads), and these artifacts were evaluated according to the latest archaeological understanding. analyses of these iron goods reveal that they were produced using sophisticated technology introduced during the mid 5th century and have much to offer typological and technological research. "

"This article briefly describes the phenomenon of language transfer, or first language interference, for Japanese learners of English and suggests one method of raising intermediate level English students' awareness of this phenomenon in a Japanese undergraduate Academic English class. Class activities and homework tasks are described, student feedback is presented and conclusions are drawn. It is hoped that this article might prove useful to teachers of EAP at the tertiary level of education, in particular Japan, and more generally in the sector elsewhere."

"ABSTRACT本学のポルトガル語専攻では、学生は、卒業論文の執筆言語を日本語かポルトガル語のいずれかから選択が可能である。しかしながら、次のいずれかの形で、学術的文章をポルトガル語で執筆する必要がある。日本語を選択する学生は、ポルトガル語で論文の要旨を提出し、ポルトガル語を選択する学生は、日本語で要旨を提出することになる。本稿では、ポルトガル語専攻における卒業論文の作成過程について紹介した上で、実際に学生が執筆したポルトガル語の論文および要旨をコーパスとして、これらの学術的文章で多くの学生が犯す誤用について報告及び考察を行う。"

"本論文は，ミャンマー語話者が日常生活において何か話を切り出そうとする場合，あるいはコミュニケーションを円滑に進めていこうする場合に用いる言語表現について，社会言語学的な観点から記述したものである。人間同士がコミュニケーションを取る際，社会的文脈に応じた多種多様な表現を使って会話を進めるものである。本論文では，こうした表現の中でも，ミャンマーならではのあいさつ言葉やその他の類似したはたらきを持つ表現に焦点を当てて記述する。"

"ABSTRACTThis article begins with a small reflection on the importance of oral skills in Spanish for foreigners. Next, it assesses briefly the disagreement between the written and grammatical competences with respect to the oral ones, stating that students present, both in Spanish and in other languages, deficiencies in the oral comprehension that the system should correct. Finally, the author presents an active, individualized and self-correcting methodology that she has successfully implemented in several courses and levels at the University of Osaka during the first term of the 2018-2019 academic year. This methodology will be used in the future in order to check its long-term results and the possible changes in its development."
