"Perjalanan mencari jati diri adalah genre film yang populer dalam industri film. Terdapat dua film terkenal yang membawakan perjalanan pencarian jati diri ini, yaitu Eat, Pray, Love (2010) dan Wild (2014). Salah satu konsep yang paling terkenal terkait pencarian jati diri adalah Hero?s Journey dari Joseph Campbell (1949). Namun, sebetulnya Hero?s Journey adalah konsep yang sudah sangat tua dan mungkin tidak cocok untuk digunakan pada era modern seperti saat ini. Jurnal ini menganalisa bagaimana konsep Hero?s Journey ini digunakan dalam era modern dengan membandingan dua karakter film, yaitu Liz Gilbert dari film Eat, Pray, Love (2010) dan Cheryl Strayed dari film Wild (2014) dan mencari tahu bagaimana mereka menemukan jati diri mereka melalui perjalanan di area yang berbeda. Hasil yang ditemukan adalah terdapat beberapa perbedaan yang terlihat dalam kedua karakter tersebut. Liz hanya melewati 11 dari 12 tahap dari Hero?s Journey dengan urutan yang berbeda. Sedangkan Cheryl melewati 9 dari 12 tahap yang ada di Hero?s Journey. Semua hasil ini menunjukkan bahwa tidak semua tahap dari Hero?s Journey ditemukan dalam manusia modern saat menemukan jati diri mereka.

Self-discovery journey is a popular genre in film industry, and there are two popular films about self-discovery journey which are Eat, Pray, Love (2010) and Wild (2014). One of the popular concepts of self-discovery is the concept of Hero?s Journey by Joseph Campbell (1949). However, Hero?s Journey is a very old traditional concept that may not be fit into people nowadays. This paper analyses how Hero?s Journey concept is used in modern time by comparing the way the two characters, Liz Gilbert in Eat, Pray, Love (2010) and Cheryl Strayed in Wild (2014) try to discover their true selves on their own way through their journey in different world. From the findings, there are some significant differences in both characters. Liz only goes through 11 out of 12 stages of Hero?s Journey with difference sequence, while Cheryl only passes 9 out of 12 stages of Hero?s Journey. All these findings show that modern people cannot go through all the Hero?s Journey stages to find their true selves."

Artikel ini secara khusus meninjau masalah itu melalui analisis alur dan pengaluran serta tokoh dan penokohan. Sebagai alat analisis, digunakan pendekatan semiotika drama dan teater yang diambil dari buku Lire le Théâtre (1977) karya Anne Ubersfeld. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penyebab mendasar dari cinta yang tak berbalas adalah takdir dewa-dewa yang menimpa para tokoh.

One of the themes in Racine’s Andromaque is unrequited love between the four main characters. This article specially reviews the issue through plot and character analysis. Semiotic approach for theater and drama, adapted from Anne Ubersfeld’s Lire le Théâtre (1977), will be used as the analysis tools. Studies show that the fundamental cause of unrequited love is the occurrence of Gods’ fate that falls upon the characters."
