"Studi mengenai pemilihan pasangan hidup di kalangan pemuda perkotaan menujukkan terjadinya perubahan tren. Saat ini, pemilihan pasangan cenderung didasarkan pada faktor inklusif yaitu usia, pendidikan, pekerjaan, status sosial ekonomi serta penampilan fisik dibandingkan dengan kesamaan etnisitas. Berbeda dengan pemuda suku Batak perkotaan, disamping faktor inklusif terdapat pula faktor eksklusif yang perlu dipertimbangkan dalam pemilihan pasangan. Faktor eksklusif yang dimaksud adalah kesamaan etnisitas yang berasal dari dorongan keluarga luas. Artikel ini membahas mengenai bagaimana pandangan pemuda suku Batak perkotaan terhadap pemilihan pasangan hidup yang bersifat inklusif dan eksklusif. Dalam mengkaji fenomena ini, penulis menggunakan pendekatan pertukaran. Pemuda suku Batak perkotaan terbagi menjadi dua tipologi dalam pemilihan pasangan. Pertama, memilih pasangan berdasarkan faktor inklusif dan eksklusif. Kedua, pemilihan pasangan berdasarkan faktor inklusif saja. Artikel ini menggunakan metode kualitatif, data yang dikumpulkan diperoleh melalui wawancara mendalam.

The study of the mate selection among urban youths shows a shift in trends. The current selection of mates tends to be based on inclusive factors such as age, education, employment, socio-economic status, and physical appeareance compared to the similarity of ethnicity. In contrast to the urban Batak youth, in addition to the inclusive factor there is also an exclusive factor that needs to be considered in the selection of mate. The exclusive factor in this article is the common ethnicity derived from the family’s encouragement. This article discusses how the views of urban Batak youth against the inclusive and exclusive factors on mate selection. Urban Batak youth is divided into two typologies in the selection of mate. First, choose a mate based on inclusive and exclusive factors. Second, choose a mate based on inclusive factor only. In examining this phenomenon, the author uses exchange theory as an approach. This article uses qualitative method, colletected data obtained thorugh in-depth interviews."

"Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis pengaruh identitas etnis dan faktor-faktor sosio-demografis terhadap peluang mengalami informalitas kerja di sektor formal. Dengan menggunakan data IFLS 2014, hasil regresi logistik biner menunjukkan bahwa faktor identitas etnis dan sosio-demografis-ekonomi signifikan dalam menentukan peluang mengalami informalitas kerja di sektor formal. Kebijakan yang dapat ditempuh yaitu refocusing kebijakan ketenagakerjaan kepada pekerja dengan karakteristik sebagai berikut: etnis non-lokal, etnis lokal di sektor sekunder, pekerja berpendidikan dasar dan menengah, pekerja laki-laki, pekerja perempuan usia muda atau perempuan yang telah menikah, pekerja di perkotaan di regional Jawa yang bergerak di sektor sekunder dan tersier.

This study aimed to analyze the influence of ethnic identity and factors sociodemographic toward tendency to experience informality of work in the formal sector. By using IFLS 2014 data, logistic binary regression results indicate that ethnic identity and socio-demographic-economic factors are significant in determining the tendency to experience informality of work in the formal sector. The policy that can be suggested is by refocusing manpower policies to workers with the following characteristics: non-local ethnic, local ethnic in the secondary sector, workers with basic and intermediate education background, male workers, young female workers and married women, workers in urban areas in the Java region that engaged in the secondary and tertiary sectors."

"Beragam penelitian yang mengkaji keterkaitan antara etnisitas dengan ranah entrepreneurship lebih banyak berfokus pada pemanfaatan modal sosial dalam bentuk networks, norms dan trust. Pemanfaatan modal sosial yang dilakukan oleh kelompok etnis tersebut diwujudkan melalui upaya membangun jejaring dengan pihak pemerintah dalam rangka membuka akses terhadap resources, ritual keagamaan dan adat dalam seni, sistem kasbon, habitus, dan etos kerja. Tanpa tendensi untuk meminggirkan gagasan pemanfaatan modal sosial dalam ranah ekonomi, penelitian ini bermaksud untuk berfokus pada pemanfaatan social closure dalam ranah perdagangan buku di Terminal Senen. Social closure merupakan salah satu dari konsep penting milik Weber yang dikembangkan oleh beberapa tokoh Neo Weberian dalam menjelaskan keterkaitan kelompok etnis dalam ranah ekonomi yang banyak menekankan pada upaya exercise power atau exclusion. Hal tersebut sejalan dengan konteks Terminal Senen yang memang didominasi oleh kelompok etnis Batak sejak puluhan tahun lalu. Penelitian ini berargumen bahwa social closure merupakan salah satu strategi bertahan yang dimanfaatkan oleh kelompok etnis Batak dalam konteks perdagangan buku di Terminal Senen. Selain itu, penelitian ini juga membahas opportunity structures dan group characteristics yang memiliki keterkaitan dengan ethnic strategies. Penelitian ini berlangsung dengan metode kualitatif yang menggunakan teknik pengumpulan data lapangan seperti sesi wawancara mendalam dan observasi. Berdasarkan metode penelitian tersebut, ditemukan bahwa social closure sebagai strategi bertahan diwujudkan dalam bentuk monopoli izin usaha kios dan pasokan buku, sponsorship and patronage (transmisi pengetahuan, skills dan exercise power), dan pemanfaatan jejaring informal melalui paguyuban pedagang buku Senen dan relasi yang didasarkan pada kesamaan kelompok etnis.

Various studies examining the relationship between ethnicity and the entrepreneurship sphere have focused more on exercising social capital in networks, norms, and trusts. The use of social capital by these ethnic groups is realized through efforts to build networks with the government to open access to resources, religious and customary rituals in art, habitus, and work ethic. Without a tendency to marginalize the idea of using social capital in the economic realm, this study intends to focus on exercising social closures in the book trading field of Senen Terminal. Social closure is one of Weber's concepts that explains the relationship of ethnic groups in the economic sphere that emphasizes the exercise of power and exclusion. This context is consistent with Terminal Senen's situation, which is already dominated by the Batak ethnic group for decades. This study argues that the Batak ethnic group exercises social closure to survive in the book trade of Senen Terminal. Besides, this study also discusses opportunity structures and group characteristics that are related to ethnic strategies. This research using a qualitative method using field data collection techniques such as in-depth interview sessions and observations. Based on that method, this research found that social closure as a strategy, manifested in the form of monopoly of business licenses, sponsorship and patronage (transmission of knowledge, skills, and exercise power), and informal networks through the Senen bookseller association and relationships based on similar ethnic groups."

"Skripsi ini mengaji tentang penguatan identitas etnis pada pemuda Kristen Batak dalam Naposobulung HKBP Kebayoran Selatan. Dalam konteks kota Jakarta yang plural, HKBP tidak hanya memiliki peran kerohanian, tapi juga menjadi wadah dalam penguatan identitas etnis Batak. This thesis examines the strengthening of ethnic identity on the Batak Christian youth in Naposobulung of South Kebayoran HKBP. In the context of a pluralistic city like Jakarta, HKBP not only has the role of spirituality, but also a strengthening forum in Batak ethnic identity. Through Naposobulung, HKBP trying to instill Batak knowledge on the younger generation who grew up in Jakarta and strengthen the solidarity between young Batak people in pluralistic Jakarta so that youth Batak identity is not lost.
