"A significant and convenient approach to detection and analysis of biological, environmental and agricultural items is the harnessing of features in widely available smartphones to create field-deployable scientific instruments, allowing measurements to be made onsite and in real-time. This book will cover a number of self-contained smartphone instruments with the particular focus on spectroscopic-based measurements. Measurement and analysis on precision of such low-cost instrumentations are provided to compare with more expensive commercial equipment.
This book also discusses some limitations, possible recommendations and scopes for further instrumentations using smartphones and other smart devices. Particularly, the opportunity to integrate the devices into the global Internet-of-Things (IoT) platform will be discussed.
Researchers and instrumentation designers in optical and photonic sensing, smart and IoT-based sensing, biological and environmental analysts, agricultural, and food quality researchers (and public health authorities) will find this book useful as reference. Students in science and engineering disciplines for teaching and educational purposes will also find this book useful as a secondary textbook."

The aim of this study is to get an overview of posture at risk while using a smartphone among PH UI regular undergraduate students in 2019. This study also looks an overview of individual factors and usage factors for subjective complaints of musculoskeletal symptoms and dry eye symptoms in smartphone users. The design of this study was cross sectional. Assessment of posture at risk is done through observation on smartphone users (n = 30) as measured by the REBA method and compared with existing theories. The description of individual factors, factors of use, subjective complaints of musculoskeletal symptoms, and dry eye symptoms were obtained from filling out questionnaires by smartphone users (n = 204). The results showed that the most posture at risk while using a smartphone include neck (71,4%) and forearm (59,5%) posture. Most respondents (82.4%) always spend > 7 times a day per chance to use a smartphone and 89.2% of respondents use smartphones excessively for > 2 hours/day. More than half of students (64.7%) had mild to severe subjective complaints in the eyes in the last 7 days. Subjective complaints of musculoskeletal symptoms in the last 7 days were neck (59.3%), shoulder/upper arm (50.0%) and upper back (44.6%)."

In this modern era, the phenomenon of smartphones usage is increasing in urban area. Modern society does not only use this as communication tools but also as a self defense to defend its personal space from strangers in the public space. This undergraduate thesis examines the smartphones usage with self defense patterns from strangers in the public place. Observation was conducted by using spatial ethnography method at the platforms of Manggarai and Universitas Indonesia train stations. The observation shows that the usage of smartphones intensifies alienation of urban society. This study may serve as future considerations that the design of public space should be able to respond current technological developments and urban cultural changes."

"This SpringerBrief investigates and reviews the development and various applications of mobile crowd sensing (MCS). With the miniaturization of sensors and the popularity of smart mobile devices, MCS becomes a promising solution to efficiently collect different types of information, such as traffic conditions, air quality, temperature and more, which is covered in this brief. The features, novelty, and applications of MCS are elaborated in detail in this brief. In addition, the basic knowledge about auction theory and incentive mechanism design is introduced.
Incentive mechanism design plays a key role in the success of MCS. With an efficient incentive mechanism, it is possible to attract enough mobile users to participate in a MCS system, thus enough high quality sensing data can be collected. Two types of incentive mechanisms with different system models are introduced in this brief. One is the reputation-aware incentive mechanism, and another is the social-aware incentive mechanism.
This SpringerBrief covers the significance and the impacts of both reputation and social relationship of smartphone users (SUs) in MCS and presents extensive simulation results to demonstrate the good performance of the proposed incentive mechanisms compared with some existing counterparts.
The target audience for this SpringerBrief is researchers and engineers in the area of wireless communication and networking, especially those who are interested in the mobile crowd sensing or incentive mechanism design. Meanwhile, it is also intended as a reference guide for advanced level students in the area of wireless communications and computer networks."
