"Tesis ini membongkar bagaimana kekuasaan bekerja membentuk diskursus arus utama novel-novel Indonesia hari ini. Melalui Foucauldiandiscourse analysis, ditelusuri asal-usul terbentuknya diskursus dominan dalam tiga genre novel: novel islami, percintaan, dan perlawanan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kapitalisme bersama-sama dengan negara menjadi aktor utama pembentuk diskursus utama.Novel islami yang pada awalnya otonom, pada akhirnya pun harus tunduk dan berkompromi dengan kepentingan kapitalisme dan negara demi tetap mendapat ruang dalam wacana arus utama. Sumbangan utama tesis ini adalah membuka diskusi kritis terhadap diskursus kesusastraan Indonesia seraya memberi pemahaman bahwa ruang perlawanan senantiasa terbuka, baik terhadap wacana kesusastraan itu sendiri maupun terhadap kekuasaan pada umumnya.

This thesis aims to find out and explain how power works to form Indonesia's existing novels currently become the main/ruling discourses within the society.Using Foucauldian Discourse Analysis, the thesis seek to find the origins of the formation of dominant discourse in three novel genres: Islamic, romance and critical/debunking novels. The research finds that capitalism together with the state become the two main factors behind the creation of such main discourses.

Islamic novels which were autonomous at the initial stage later fell into the trap of capitalism and compromised itself and were cooptated to serve the interest of capitalists, markets and the state in an attempt to stay in the main discourse. The Islamic novels even form a coalition with the two actors in one ultimate goal of creating the main discourse which is seen beneficial for all of them. The main contribution of this thesis is allowing and opening critical discussion on main discourses in Indonesian literature while providing an insight and understanding that there will always be room of resistance and being critical against ruling discourses within te country's literature as well as against power in general."

"Sastra anak adalah salah satu media untuk memperkenalkan nilai-nilai sosial-budaya dalam membangun perspektif kepada pembacanya khususnya anak-anak. Salah satu perspektif yang dapat dibangun melalui sastra anak adalah pemahaman tentang gender. Sejak dahulu, gender selalu dikaitkan melalui dominasi peran laki-laki dari perempuan. Laki-laki diharapkan menjadi makhluk yang kuat, rasional, dan mandiri. Sementara itu, perempuan dianggap sebagai makhluk yang emosional, lemah, dan tunduk. Laki-laki dianggap harus mendominasidi semua ranah kehidupan, termasuk pertemanan dan persahabatan. Berdasarkan hal tersebut, tujuan penelitian ini adalah menjelaskan bagaimana anak perempuan digambarkan melalui bacaan anak khususnya pada bacaan anak Kecil-Kecil Punya Karya (KKPK) yang terbit dalam kurun waktu 2008—2016. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan empat bacaan anak dari penulis perempuan yang karyanya diterbitkan dalam seri Kecil-Kecil Berkarya (KKPK) DAR! Mizan. Melalui analisis konsep gender berdasarkan pendekatan sosiologi gender, dalam penelitian ini, dihasilkan bahwa citra anak perempuan Indonesia dihasilkan melalui praktik gender sebagai konstruksi sosial dalam aspek sosial budaya, pendidikan, dan ekonomi sastra anak. Hasil penelitian ini memberikan gambaran kepada pembaca tentang citra anak perempuan Indonesia Indonesia dalam novel anak KKPK The Star Girls, The Seven Angels, The Popular Girls dan My Days in America. Citra anak perempuan tersebut dapat terlihat dari penyampaian secara langsung atau tidak langsung serta peran anak perempuan melalui orang tua, lingkungan, dan pertemanannya. Analisis tersebut diungkapkan melalui konsep gender dengan pendekatan sosiologi sastra. Citra anak perempuan Indonesia dianalasis melalui peran gender dalam sosialisasi dengan orang tua, masyarakat dan masalah sosial menunjukkan bahwa mereka memiliki dampak yang sangat kuat pada persepsi gender anak.

Children's literature is one of the media to introduce socio-cultural values in building perspectives for readers, especially children. One perspective that can be built through children's literature is an understanding of gender. Since ancient times, gender has always been associated with the dominance of the role of men over women. Men are expected to be strong, rational and independent beings. Meanwhile, women are seen as emotional, weak, and submissive creatures. Men are considered to have to dominate in all areas of life, including friendship and friendship. Based on this, the purpose of this research is to see how girls are described through children's literature, especially in the Little Children Have Works (KKPK) published in the period 2008-2016. This research was conducted using four children's literature from female authors whose works were published in the DAR! Mizan. Through an analysis of the concept of gender based on a gender sociology approach, in this study, it was found that the image of Indonesian girls was produced through gender practices as a social construction in the socio-cultural, educational and economic aspects of children's literature. The results of this study give readers an overview of the image of Indonesian Indonesian girls in the children's novels KKPK The Star Girls, The Seven Angels, The Popular Girls and My Days in America. The image of the daughter can be seen from the delivery directly or indirectly and the role of the daughter through her parents, environment and friendship. The analysis is expressed through the concept of gender with a sociology of literature approach. The image of Indonesian girls analyzed through gender roles in socialization with parents, society and social issues shows that they have a very strong impact on children's gender perceptions."

"Disertasi ini membahas keterkaitan antara kehidupan Suparto Brata dengan hasil karya tulisnya serta membahas pandangan Suparto Brata berkaitan dengan peranan dan kedudukan perempuan Jawa sebagaimana terepresentasikan dalam novel Donyane Wong Culika dan Bekasi Remeng-Remeng. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan sosiologi sastra yang mengaitkan unsur intrinsik (berupa fakta kemanusiaan fiksionalitas) dengan unsur ekstrinsik (fakta kemanusiaan realitas). Temuan atas penelitian ini adalah bahwa latar belakang kehidupan Suparto Brata berupa hadirnya tiga perempuan (ibu, ibu mertua, istri) serta nilai-nilai budaya Jawa yang terkandung dalam ungkapan-ungkapan bahasa Jawa sangat mempengaruhi isi karya sastranya. Pandangan dan sikap perempuan Jawa berkaitan dengan permasalahan gender dilandasi oleh empat jenis motivasi yaitu motif biogenetis, motif sosiogenetis, motif teogenetis, serta motif psikogenetis. Berdasarkan keempat motivasi tersebut, sosok perempuan Jawa dapat dikatakan sebagai sosok perempuan yang humanis dan religius. Kesimpulan penelitian ini adalah bahwa peranan perempuan Jawa sangat dominan. Perempuan Jawa dapat melakukan hal-hal yang berkaitan dengan masalah domestik sekaligus publik. Dikarenakan peranannya yang sangat besar tersebut, kedudukan perempuan Jawa menjadi sangat tinggi dan sangat terhormat.

This dissertation discusses the interrelationship between life of Suparto Brata with the results of his writings and discuss Suparto Brata`s view about the role of and position of Javanese women as represented in the novel Donyane Wong Culika and Bekasi Remeng-Remeng. This study uses sociology of literature approach that linked the intrinsic elements (in the form of humanitarian fact of fiction) with extrinsic elements (humanitarian facts of reality). The findings of this research is that the background of life of Suparto Brata form of the presence of three women (mother, mother-in-law, wife) and Javanese cultural values contained within the Java language expressions greatly influence the content of his literary work. The views and attitudes of Javanese women related to gender issues based on the four types of motivation that biogenetic motive, sosiogenetic motive, theogenetic motive, and the psikogenetic motive. Based on the fourth motivations, Javanese women can be regarded as the humanist and religious figure of women. The conclusion of this study is that the role of Javanese women is very dominant. Javanese women can do things that are related to domestic issues and public at once. Due to the very huge role, the position of Javanese women become very high and very respectable."

"Disertasi ini membahas kehadiran post-Islamisme sebagai strategi dialog dalam novelpopuler Indonesia pascareformasi. Melalui teori dan pendekatan Dialogisme Mikhail Bakhtin dan berlandaskan gagasan Post-Islamisme Asef Bayat penelitian ini berfokus pada pembuktian adanya strategi dialogis dakwah Islam melalui novel populer dalam ruang publik demokrasi. Objek penelitian yang dipilih adalah tiga novel populer yang terbit setelah reformasi, yaitu Ayat-Ayat Cinta karya Habiburrahman el Shirazy, Jilbab Travelers: Love Spark in Korea karya Asma Nadia, dan 99 Cahaya di Langit Eropa karya Hanum SalsabielaRais- Rangga Almahendra. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dalam ketiga novel tersebutterdapat narasi-narasi dialogis sebagai upaya perwujudan ideologi post-Islamisme. Haltersebut membuktikan bahwa keterbukaan identitas bagi masyarakat Islam terjadi pada masa pascareformasi.

This dissertation discusses the presence of post-Islamism as a dialogue strategy in Indonesia's popular post-reform novels. Embracing Mikhail Bakhtin's Dialogism theory and approach as well as Asef Bayat’s idea of Post-Islamism, this research focuses on evidencing the existence of a dialogical strategy of Islamic dawah through popular novels in a democratic public space.

The selected research objects were three popular novels published after the reform, namely Ayat-Ayat Cinta by Habiburrahman el Shirazy, Jilbab Travelers: Love Sparks in Korea by Asma Nadia, and 99 Cahaya di Langit Eropa by Hanum Salsabiela Rais-Rangga

Almahendra. The results revealed that the three novels employed dialogical narratives as a manifestation effort of post-Islamism ideology. This finding proves that the identity openness for Muslim society occurred in the post-reform era."
