"This study is an attempt to address the issue of how Extensive Reading (ER) as a supplementary reading approach is able to encourage students critical literacy. Further how ER influences students perception of critical literacy related to students viewpoint of the texts is examined throughly. ER in this study was employed as a supplementary reading activity where students ere engaged to read in a large number of materials on a wide range of topics and they had freedom to select the reading material based on its relevance to their interests, knowledge, and experience (Day & Bamford, 2002). Relating the characteristics of ER, it seemed to us that students understanding of the text through ER activity should be scrutinized as one important aspect in English language teaching (ELT). in order to get more comprehensive picture, questionnaires were distributed to 38 students in the class. Yet, only 3 (three) students were willing to return the questionnaire and to be interviewed based on their answers in the quasionnaire. The findings revealed that ER is evidenced to motivate students to approach texts critically, challenge taken knowledge, relate the text to world's issues, improve their awareness of how to see and understand human beings, and question the intention of the texts from distinct viewpoints."

"Skripsi ini membahas tentang literasi informasi mahasiswa internasional pada Program BIPA di Fakultas Ilmu Pengetahuan Budaya Universitas Indonesia. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian studi kasus dengan pendekatan penelitian kualitatif. Informan dalam penelitian ini berjumlah 6 orang mahasiswa BIPA yang dipilih dengan metode random sampling untuk diwawancara dengan pertanyaan yang merujuk pada teori literasi informasi Big6 yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini. Penelitian dilakukan dengan menganalisis kemampuan literasi informasi informan dengan 6 tahap Big6 yaitu, definisitugas, strategi penelusuran informasi, lokasi dan akses, penggunaan informasi, sintesis, serta evaluasi. Penelitian ini menunjukkan hasil bahwa mahasiswa internasional program BIPA di FIB UI melakukan tahapan literasi informasi tanpa mereka sadari untuk memenuhi kebutuhan informasi yang timbul dari luar perkuliahan yaitu, kebutuhan informasi dasar, informasi tentang pekerjaan masing-masing, informasi tentang perbedaan bahasa kosakata dan informasi tentang hobi masing-masing informan. Hasil penelitian juga menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan literasi informasi setiap mahasiswa BIPA yang dipengaruhi oleh kemampuan Bahasa Indonesia informan, latar belakang kemampuan/pengalaman Bahasa Indonesia informan sebelum tinggal di Indonesia sebelum menjadi mahasiswa BIPA, dan lama tinggal di Indonesia.

This research aims to analyze information literacy skill of Bahasa Indonesia bagi Penutur Asing BIPA students at Universitas Indonesia in accordance with their foreign language learning need, Bahasa. Einsberg 2004 asserted that information literacy skill is important in foreign language learning. This can be seen from the purpose of foreign language learning comprising of communication, culture, relation, comparison and community which increases the need of information literacy learning to overcome the problems concerning the learning. In order to support the need, the collaboration between information literacy and the use of Bahasa by BIPA students is necessary. Lecture curricula for foreign students would be more up to date if it is adjusted to information need of the students. BIPA students are foreign students who study Indonesian language as their foreign language or it can be called as Indonesian as Foreign Language IFL. Information literacy skill of BIPA students will be analyzed using Big6, consisting of problem defining stage, information finding strategy, location and access, information use, synthesis and evaluation. This research is using qualitative approach with case study method. Data for this research is collected through interviews, observation and literature study. Research informants were 6 six people selected using random sampling. They consisted of two students from South Korea and one student from Slovakia, Japan, Netherland and Vietnam. Most existing researches discuss English as foreign language second language EFL ESL, but no research on information literacy related to Indonesian as foreign language second language. Therefore, this research is going to fill the gap between the previously conducted researches on information literacy related to language skill."

"Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk menganalisis adanya pengaruh financial literacy terhadap financial wellbeing melalui mediasi financial self-efficacy pada generasi milenial di DKI Jakarta. Generasi milenial merupakan bagian yang signifikan dari populasi masyarakat produktif dan berada pada masa kritis dalam pengambilan keputusan keuangan dan kesejahteraan keuangan pribadi mereka. Pada penelitian ini financial literacy diukur melalui dimensi financial awareness, financial experience, dan financial skill. Variabel financial wellbeing diukur melalui dimensi financial preparedness for emergency, current money management stress, dan perceived financial security. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif yang dilakukan dengan menyebarkan kuesioner ke 188 responden secara online. Data yang didapat pada penelitian diolah menggunakan software IBM SPSS dan AMOS 21 dengan analisis statistik deskriptif dan analisis statistik inferensial melalui structural equation modeling. Hasil penelitian menemukan bahwa terdapat pengaruh positif antara financial literacy terhadap financial wellbeing pada generasi milenial di DKI Jakarta. Selain itu, ditemukan bahwa tidak ada efek mediasi variabel financial self efficacy pada pengaruh financial literacy terhadap financial wellbeing.

This study is aimed at analyzing the effect of financial literacy on financial wellbeing through the mediation of financial self-efficacy on the millennial generation in DKI Jakarta. The millennials formed a significant portion of productive-age demography, are in their critical period in financial decision-making which choices will impact their personal financial well-being. In this study, financial literacy is measured through the dimensions of financial awareness, financial experience, and financial skills. The financial wellbeing variable is measured through the dimensions of financial preparedness for emergencies, current money management stress, and perceived financial security. This research uses a quantitative approach whereby data is collected by distributing online questionnaires to 188 respondents. The data obtained in the study were processed using IBM SPSS software and AMOS 21 with descriptive statistical analysis and inferential statistical analysis through structural equation modeling. The results found that there is a positive influence between financial literacy on financial wellbeing in the millennial generation in DKI Jakarta. In addition, it was found that there was no mediating effect of financial self-efficacy variables on the effect of financial literacy on financial wellbeing."

"Perkembangan teknologi telah membawa perubahan pada aktivitas literasi. Akses terhadap sumber literasi kini bisa diperoleh dengan mudah melalui sumber bacaan digital. Salah satu penyedia bahan bacaan digital di Indonesia adalah iPusnas. iPusnas merupakan aplikasi m-Library milik Perpustakaan Nasional yang menyediakan koleksi buku digital secara gratis dan legal. Meskipun gratis, pengguna iPusnas saat ini masih sangat sedikit. Hal ini mungkin terjadi karena kualitas sistem yang kurang baik jika dibandingkan dengan aplikasi sejenis. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan desain alternatif aplikasi iPusnas yang dapat meningkatkan kualitas pengalaman pengguna dan memfasilitasi penerapan strategi metakognisi. Strategi metakognisi merupakan fondasi dari pemahaman membaca yang baik, dengan menerapkan strategi ini pembaca bisa lebih sadar akan proses berpikirnya. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah mixed methods yakni dengan kuesioner daring, wawancara kontekstual, diary study, dan usability testing. Secara keseluruhan diperoleh 208 responden yang menjawab kuesioner system usability scale (SUS) dan instrumen metakognitif secara daring. Nilai SUS yang diperoleh adalah 69.2 sehingga sistem masih memerlukan banyak perbaikan. Strategi metakognitif yang paling banyak diterapkan responden secara berurutan adalah problem-dealing strategies, guessing strategies, information dealing strategies, overviewing strategies, dan supporting strategies. Sebanyak 11 partisipan dilibatkan dalam diary study selama tiga hari untuk memahami perilaku pengguna dalam penerapan strategi metakognitif. Berdasarkan data-data tersebut dikembangkan sebuah desain alternatif yang menjawab kebutuhan dan masalah pengguna terkait penerapan strategi metakognitif. Usability testing jarak jauh tanpa moderasi dilakukan untuk mengevaluasi desain alternatif. Berdasarkan hasil UT tersebut terdapat beberapa fitur dan halaman yang perlu dievaluasi ulang. Beberapa partisipan juga mengungkapkan saran perbaikan pada kuesioner daring yang disebarkan. Dengan demikian masih terdapat peluang perbaikan untuk desain alternatif.

Technological advancement has brought massive changes in literacy activities. Access to literacy resources can now be obtained effortlessly through digital reading material. iPusnas is one of the service providers of digital reading material in Indonesia. iPusnas is a mobile library application developed by the National Library of Indonesia which provide numerous collections of free and legal e-Book. Despite their free service, iPusnas still does not have that many active users. This might occur because the system is not yet established compared to their competitor. The aim of this study is to provide an alternative design of iPusnas mobile application that can improve the quality of user experience and facilitate the use of metacognitive reading strategy. Metacognitive strategy is the foundation of good reading comprehension, by applying this strategy reader can be more aware of their thinking process. Therefore, this theory can be used as a basis theory in developing alternative design. Mixed methods is used throughout this study including online questionnaire, contextual interview, diary study, and usability testing. In total, 208 respondents completed online system usability scale (SUS) questionnaire and metacognitive reading strategy instruments. The SUS score obtained from the questionnaire is 69.2, this shows that the system still needs a lot of improvement. Strategies that are most to the least used among respondents consecutively are: (1) problem-dealing strategies, (2) guessing strategies, (3) information-dealing strategies, (4) overviewing strategies, and (4) supporting strategies. Furthermore 11 participants were involved in diary study within three days in a row to gain a complete understanding about the use of metacognitive strategy during their reading session. Both qualitative and quantitative data obtained from the study are used to develop an alternative design. Finally, a remote unmoderated usability testing is carried out to evaluate the alternative design developed. Based on the result, there are several features and pages that need to be re-evaluated for a better experience. Participants also expressed some suggestions for improvement on the given online questionnaire. These imply that there are still room for improvement to this alternative design. "
