"ABSTRACTPoliteness, speech act and discourse have become an interest area of language use in context. Attention has been drawn to the universality of politeness strategies across the culture. This study examines the nature of pattern of communication in terms of politeness, speech acts and discourse in sasak speech community. The subject of the studi is 1 Tuan Guru giving religious speech in silkur village. Participantobservaton is used as the method of data collection in this study. A video recording was used to collect data. Result of the study shows that reminding and sugesting are not acts of indicating or threatening addressees' negative face, but possitive strategies used to minimized the threat for adresses' possitive face and negative one as means of saving addressees' negative face. These three variables were interrealted to dechiper the nature of speech pattern of language use in the sasak speech community. the notion of face should be analyzed according to norms and cultural values such acts in different speech communities. Hence, the universality of communicative action and the type of speech act in a given speech community are crucial variable to sctinize the language use in context."

"Skripsi ini menganalisis strategi kesantunan yang diterapkan Karni Ilyas dan peserta acara dalam tayang bincang Indonesia Lawyers Club Episode “Denny: Advokat Koruptor=Koruptor”. Tujuannya adalah mengetahui strategi kesantunan yang digunakan oleh Karni Ilyas sebagai moderator dan peserta ILC lainnya untuk menjaga dan melindungi „muka‟ dari tindak mengancam muka. Hasil penelitian ini adalah dalam penggunaan strategi kesantunan tersebut, dapat menimbulkan tindak mengancam muka yang lain kepada lawan bicara. Tindak mengancam muka tersebut dipengaruhi oleh perbedaan posisi dalam berargumentasi, yakni afirmatif, negatif, dan moderator. Kesimpulan yang didapat dari analisis tersebut adalah moderator menerapkan tindak mengancam muka dengan intensitas lebih tinggi daripada peserta acara yang lain. Hal tersebut disebabkan oleh faktor kuasa antara penutur dan lawan tutur. Dalam acara ini, moderator memiliki kuasa yang lebih tinggi dalam mengendalikan acara.

This thesis analyzes the politeness strategies that are applied by Karni Ilyas and participants in the talk show Indonesia Lawyers Club Episode "Denny: Advokat Koruptor= Koruptor". The goal is to determine the politeness strategies used by Karni Ilyas as ILC moderator and other participants to maintain and protect the 'face' from face threatening acts (FTA). The result of this study is that the use of the politeness strategies may impact another face threatening acts to the other person. The face threatening acts are influenced by differences in the position of arguing, such as affirmative, negative, and moderator. The conclusion of the analysis is that the moderator applies the face threatening acts with a higher intensity than the other participants. This is due to the factor of the power between the speakers and the opponents. In this talk show, the moderator has a higher power in control of events."

"Pengajaran bahasa, khususnya kompetensi wacana, dan pendidikan berkarakter merupakan dua hal yang melatarbelakangi penelitian ini. Penelitian ini mengungkap bagaimana penjabaran konkret dari nilai kejujuran dalam teks drama di buku ajar dan nilai sosial budaya apa yang kemungkinan memengaruhi produksi wacana. Analisis dalam penelitian ini menggunakan teori analisis wacana kritis. Analisis wacana kritis memandang wacana sebagai praktik sosial yang produksinya dipengaruhi dan memengaruhi nilai-nilai di masyarakat. Melalui penelitian ini, diketahui bahwa teks drama bermanfaat untuk pengajaran bahasa sekaligus sarana pendidikan berkarakter. Teks drama pada penelitian ini banyak menyampaikan nilai kejujuran dengan cara tidak langsung, yaitu tidak ada penanda kata tertentu yang memudahkan penandaan nilai kejujuran. Dalam penelitian ini, juga ditemukan nilai sosial budaya, yakni ajaran agama dan hukum adat, yang kemungkinan memengaruhi produksi teks. Kejujuran yang diajarkan sebagian besar berkaitan dengan konsep menjaga amanah.

Language teaching, especially the discourse competence, and building character education are the two factors behind this research. This study reveals how the concrete elaboration of the value of honesty at drama in textbook and social and cultural value which influence the production of discourse. The analysis in this study uses theory of critical discourse analysis. Critical discourse analysis looks discourse as social practice. As social practice, discourse is influenced and affected values in society.

Through this research, it is known that the drama useful for language teaching and building character education. Almost dramas in this study express the value of honesty in an indirect way, which are no specific markers that facilitate the tagging value honesty. In this study, also found socio-cultural values, namely religion and customary law, which may influenced the production of the text. Honesty is taught largely concerned with the concept of keeping mandate."

"Skripsi ini membahas percakapan antara guru dan siswa kelas V Sekolah Master yang terjadi ketika kegiatan belajar-mengajar sedang berlangsung. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan teknik observasi untuk mendapatkan rekaman percakapan antara guru dan siswa. Percakapan tersebut diteliti dalam kajian pragmatik dengan menggunakan teori prinsip kerja sama, implikatur percakapan, dan kesantunan. Prinsip kerja sama sering dipatuhi dan dilanggar oleh guru dan siswa dalam percakapan. Pelanggaran dari prinsip kerja sama tersebut mengandung implikatur percakapan. Sementara itu, guru dan siswa juga bertutur santun dalam berbicara.

This thesis discusses the conversation between teachers and students fifth grade at School of Master when the teaching and learning activities occurs. The research uses qualitative method with the observation technique to get conversation between teacher and students record. The conversation researched in pragmatics studies using cooperative principle, conversational implicature, and politeness theory. Cooperative principle usually obeyed and violated by teacher and students in conversation. The violation from cooperative principle contains the conversational implicature. While, teacher and students also polite in speaking."

"The Müller and northern Schwaner mountain ranges are home to a handful of tiny, isolated groups (Aoheng, Hovongan, Kereho, Semukung, Seputan), altogether totaling about 5,000 persons, which are believed to have been forest hunter-gatherers in a distant or recent past. Linguistic data were collected among these groups and other neighbouring groups between 1975 and 2010, leading to the delineation of two distinct clusters of languages of nomadic or formerly nomadic groups, which are called MSP (Müller-Schwaner Punan) and BBL (Bukat-Beketan-Lisum) clusters. These languages also display lexical affinity to the languages of various major Bornean settled farming groups (Kayan, Ot Danum). Following brief regional and particular historical sketches, their phonological systems and some key features are described and compared within the wider local linguistic setting, which is expected to contribute to an elucidation of the ultimate origins of these people and their languages."

"This paper examines gender agreement in three little-known languages of the Aru Islands and places them within the larger pattern of “neuter gender” in eastern Indonesia. For each language, I look first at the variety of agreement targets that are controlled by gendered nouns. Secondly, I look at the semantics of nouns that control agreement. I show that whilst having a strongly semantic base involving animacy, gender in Aru languages is a grammatical category in which many nouns denoting certain types of entities that lack discernable biological animacy are assigned to the same gender as that of animate referents. I conclude by considering the system of gender in proto-Aru."
