Patzer, Gordon L.
"We all know one hard and undeniable truth: physical beauty comes with tremendous power, and tremendous benefits. Those who possess it are generally luckier in love, more likely to be popular, and more apt to get better grades in school. But very few of us realize just how much looks affect every aspect of our lives. Recent studies document that people blessed with good looks earn about 10 per cent more than their average-looking colleagues. They are also more likely to get hired and promoted at work."

Goleman, Daniel
"Drawing on groundbreaking brain and behavioral research, Goleman shows the factors at work when people of high IQ flounder and those of modest IQ do surprisingly well. These factors, which include self-awareness, self-discipline, and empathy, add up to a different way of being smart - and they aren't fixed at birth. Although shaped by childhood experience, emotional intelligence can be nurtured and strengthened throughout adulthood - with immediate benefits to our health, our relationships, and our work"

Zelicoff, Alan P.
"Patients today expect their every last ache and pain to be immediately cataloged and cured. They want the pill they just saw advertised, or the latest, greatest procedure. Many doctors, reluctant to tell patients that waiting or doing nothing is often better, are all too willing to accommodate. As a result, we are becoming a nation of over-diagnosed and over-treated people. But how can we know how much medicine is good medicine? And how do we know which treatments might actually work? In "More Harm Than Good", Michael Bellomo and Dr. Alan Zelicoff offer a compelling look at medical care today and explore how common conditions like prostate cancer, heart disease, and diabetes are being over-treated, wasting billions of healthcare dollars and producing less than ideal, if not detrimental results. The authors arm readers with the facts and questions they need to better discuss options with their doctors, and examine the way doctors select treatments in the first place. Based on solid scientific and medical research as well as interviews with surgeons, internists, and general practitioners, "More Harm Than Good" will empower readers to make better health decisions. Revealing and impeccably researched, this is a revolutionary book that will change how we look at being sick."

The objective of this study was to determine the effect of the death-related or self-esteem-related message content of the cigarettes on-pack warning to the attitudes toward smoking using the Terror Management Theory Health Model. If one’s self-esteem is relevant to his smoking behavior then his attitudes toward smoking will be more positive when given the death-related warnings and vice versa when given the self-esteem related warnings. The design of this study is 3 (type of the warnings: text vs picture vs text and picture) X 2 (message content: death vs selfesteem). Participants (N=175) were given cigarette packs with text or picture or text and picture warnings on them and then filled out the attitudes toward smoking measurement. The moderation effect of relevancy of self-esteem to smoking behaviour was measured using Smoking as Relevant to Self-esteem conducted by Hansen, et.al. (2010). Results show that participants on the death-related warnings have significantly higher score of attitudes toward smoking than selfesteem-related warnings, F(1, 169)= 10,369; p<0,05; ω =0,227, although it wasn’t moderated by the relevancy of the self-esteem to the smoking behavior b= 0,097, 95% CI [-0,361, 0,229] t = 1,44; p = 0,153. In conclusion, death-related warnings make attitudes toward smoking be more positive but the relationship wasn’t moderated by the relevancy of the self-esteem to the smoking behaviour.
