Propel Funeral Service (Propel) is a leading provider of death care services in Australia and New Zealand, offering a comprehensive range of offerings including funeral, cremation, burial, and memorialization services. Established in the late 1800s, Propel has grown to become the second-largest entity in the sector, conducting over 18,000 funeral services in 2023—a 9% increase from the previous year. The company has achieved a 16% revenue growth, driven by strategic investments in service expansion, network management, and acquisitions, which align with the anticipated rise in death rates due to an aging population. Despite a robust revenue increase, Propel reported a negative Free Cash Flow (FCF) for FY23, attributed primarily to significant investments in acquisitions and property. Propel’s financial strategy includes leveraging debt and potential equity financing to address FCF deficits while maintaining strong relationships within local communities as a competitive advantage. Additionally, the company is well-positioned to capitalize on market fragmentation, with plans for further acquisitions in a landscape dominated by smaller, family-run businesses. Propel’s accounting practices reveal a focus on reporting expenses by nature, aligning with AASB standards, and managing contract liabilities and contingent considerations as financial obligations tied to past events. This financial analysis underscores the importance of continuous market evaluation and strategic adjustments to ensure shareholder value, particularly given uncertainties surrounding WACC and growth assumptions that could influence share pricing. The company’s current market price exceeds the calculated valuation, suggesting a potential sell recommendation, albeit with caution regarding future performance and market conditions."

This study identifies the effect of the proportion of female directors on the board of directors on the financial performance of companies in the industrial and financial sectors in Indonesia in the range of years from 2017 to 2021. The company's financial performance is measured through Return on Assets (ROA) and Price-to-Book Value (PtBV). The sample of this research are 43 companies in the industrial sector and 102 companies in the financial sector which are listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX). The research data was processed using panel data regression with the Fixed Effect Model and Random Effect Model estimation methods. This study found that the proportion of female directors on the board of directors is not related to the financial performance of companies in Indonesia if there is no influence from other variables. The proportion of female directors in the board of directors is proven to have an effect on the Return on Assets (ROA) of companies in Indonesia if there is influence from leverage in the company's finances. Tests on the control variables, namely the intensity of capital expenditure and leverage in corporate finance, show that these two variables affect the company's Return on Assets (ROA)."
