"The digital is the new milieu in which academic libraries must serve their patrons; but how best to utilize the slew of digital devices and their surrounding trends? Optimizing Academic Library Services in the Digital Milieu identifies best practices and strategies for using digital devices (such as tablets, e-readers, and smartphones) and copyrighted materials in academic libraries. Special consideration is given to e-books, iBooks, e-journals, and digital textbooks. This title describes how academic libraries can remain current, nimbly addressing user needs. An introduction gives an overview of technology in academic libraries, including the foundations of copyright law and user behavior in relation to digital content. Three parts then cover, digital rights management (DRM), practical approaches to e-content for librarians, and emerging pedagogy and technology. Finally, the book concludes by telling libraries how to remain agile and adaptable as they navigate the digital milieu."

The role of academic libraries in Research Support Services has become a global issue. However, this role has not been carried out well by academic libraries in Indonesia; the adoption is low compared to other countries. Information systems can overcome these problems through the development of business models; produce business process changes that are implemented in a prototype digital library of research support services. The appropriate implementation strategy is also needed for the successful adoption of business process reengineering. This study aims to create a digital library business model for research support services and its implementation in the form of a prototype. Another objective is to develop an implementation strategy for the adoption of the proposed business process.
This study uses a mixed method. Qualitative studies through focus group discussions (FGD) are used to build a business model adapted from the Business Model Canvas. The prototype development uses an object-oriented approach with the Rapid Application Development method. Quantitative usability analysis using a system usability scale (SUS) questionnaire was used for prototype testing. The development of the implementation strategy was obtained from interviews with experts using the grounded theory method (GTM). Qualitative data analysis used content analysis and thematic analysis.
The research resulted in a business model with nine unique key factors according to the characteristics of academic libraries in Indonesia. The business model has been modeling its business processes using the Unified Modeling Language (UML) and implemented in a prototype; which has not been done in previous studies. The implementation strategy has also been designed for the successful adoption of the business process reengineering. Compared to previous research, this study raises issues related to staff awareness and collaboration between units. This relates to the characteristics of the non-profit organization of academic libraries; where in the previous study the strategy was designed based on a case study of profit organizations. Practically, the results of this research can be used to overcome the limitations of technology development and increase the adoption of business process reengineering in academic libraries towards research support services. Several business processes that have not been implemented due to various research limitations have the opportunity as further research to strengthen this research.

"Libraries in the USA and globally are undergoing quiet revolution. Libraries are moving away from a philosophy that is collection-centered to one focused on service. Technology is key to that change. The Patron Driven Library explores the way technology has moved the focus from library collections to services, placing the reader at the center of library activities. The book reveals the way library users are changing, and how social networking, web delivery of information, and the uncertain landscape of e-print has energized librarians to adopt technology to meet a different model of the library while preserving core values. Following an introduction, the first part begins with the historical milieu, and moves on to current challenges for financing and acquiring materials, and an exploration of why the millennial generation is transformational. The second part examines how changes in library practice can create a culture for imagining library services in an age of information overflow"

"Libraries and librarians have been defined by the book throughout modern history. What happens when society increasingly lets print go in favour of storing, retrieving and manipulating electronic information? What happens after the book? After the Book explores how the academic library of the 21st Century is first and foremost a provider of electronic information services. Contemporary users expect today’s library to provide information as quickly and efficiently as other online information resources. The book argues that librarians need to change what they know, how they work, and how they are perceived in order to succeed according to the terms of this new paradigm. This title is structured into eight chapters. An introduction defines the challenge of electronic resources and makes the case for finding solutions, and following chapters cover diversions and half measures and the problem for libraries in the 21st century. Later chapters discuss solving problems through professional identity and preparation, before final chapters cover reorganizing libraries to serve users, adapting to scarcity, and the ‘digital divide’.

"Academic libraries have continually looked for technological solutions to low circulation statistics, under-usage by students and faculty, and what is perceived as a crisis in relevance, seeing themselves in competition with Google and Wikipedia. Academic libraries, however, are as relevant as they have been historically, as their primary functions within their university missions have not changed, but merely evolved. Going beyond the Gate Count argues that the problem is not relevance, but marketing and articulation. This book offers theoretical reasoning and practical advice to directors on how to better market the function of the library within and beyond the home institution. The aim of this text is to help directors, and ultimately, their librarians and staff get students and faculty back into the library, as a result of better articulation of the library’s importance. The first chapter explores the promotion of academic libraries and their function as educational systems. The next two chapters focus on the importance of the role social media and virtual presence in the academic library, and engaging and encouraging students to use the library through a variety of methods, such as visually oriented special collections. Remaining chapters discuss collaboration and collegiality, formalized reporting and marketing."

Variations in capacity, potential, and level of regional development cause wide differences in quality between study programs and higher education institutions throughout Indonesia. These quality differences become the focus of higher education stakeholders, especially prospective students, the government, and the labor market. To maintain its quality, Krida Wacana Christian University (UKRIDA) as one of the higher education institutions in Indonesia must meet the standards of criterias set by the National Accreditation Body for Higher Education (BAN-PT). Then, to be able to compete, UKRIDA also needs to establish strategic decisions and plans that are made based on the same data used to measure accreditation criteria standards fulfillment so that they are aligned with the main objective of quality improvement. However, through analysis of Loshin’s domain of problem root causes include humans, processes, technology, and policies, turns out that the quality of data from one of the obligations of the Tri Dharma, namely education and teaching specifically on student and academic data is still poor both in terms of management and the condition of the data itself. Based on these founds, this study aims to develop strategies for improving the UKRIDA student and academic data quality.

Using qualitative methods, data collection was carried out through interviews, direct queries and document study. Assessment of the current data quality uses data quality dimensions from Loshin and PermenristekDikti RI Number 61 of 2016 Article 12, assessment of the maturity level of data quality management using Loshin's Data Quality Maturity Model. The assessment results in: findings of problems causes and findings of management gaps. Further analysis was carried out to produce strategic recommendations, firstly through mapping DMBOK2 common problems causes; a strategy for improving data quality conditions was formed. Secondly, through mapping of DMBOK2 best practice data quality management activities combined with Loshin’s data quality strategy points of consideration, a data quality management improvement strategy was formed. Broadly speaking, the proposed strategy suggests corrections of data structures and application interfaces, defining data governance, organizing complete documentation of rules, SOPs, and SLAs up to business units also measurement and reporting improvement."
