"[ABSTRAKSnow White and the Huntsman merupakan sebuah film Hollywood tahun 2012 yang mendekonstruksi jalan cerita dan penokohan yang terdapat dalam film Snow White karya Brothers Grimm sehingga dianggap sebagai film yang memuat nilai feminis yang kuat. Meskipun begitu, jumlah penelitian yang mengkaji nilai patriakal dan ambivalensi terhadap representasi perempuan dalam film ini masih terbatas. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat bagaimana kontrol konsep Idealized Beauty dalam tokoh utama perempuan, dan bagaimana perempuan direpresentasikan dalam film Snow White and the Huntsman melalui penokohan tokoh utama perempuan. Hasil penelitian membuktikan bahwa Snow White and the Huntsman memiliki ambivalensi. Dalam satu sisi perempuan ditampilkan sebagai seorang pahlawan, namun perempuan juga ditampilkan sebagai men?s stuff yang dikontrol oleh konsep Idealized Beauty pada di sisi yang lain. Penelitian ini bermanfaat sebagai rujukan untuk memahami ambivalensi nilai-nilai patriakal yang masih berlaku dalam masyarakat sekarang.

ABSTRACTSnow White and the Huntsman is a 2012 Hollywood film that dramatically deconstructs a classic Grimm?s fairytale story of Snow White both in its plot and character, and is regarded as a film that is made with a conscious feminist agenda. Unfortunately, this film has not been extensively discussed for the ambivalences in women?s representation that perpetuate the long-held patriarchal beliefs of women. This is what this study attempts to accomplish through a critical and textual analysis of Snow White and Huntsman. It explores, in particular, how women are controlled by men?s idealized beauty and how the ambivalence towards women?s representation is depicted in this film. The findings show that Snow White and the Huntsman has ambivalences towards feminism: on the one hand, women are strongly depicted as heroes, but on the other hand they are depicted as men?s stuff that controlled by men?s idealized beauty. "Skripsi ini membahas tentang transformasi tokoh Snow White dalam film Snow White and The Huntsman untuk memenuhi aspek-aspek sosok pahlawan yang berdasarkan pada buku Margery Hourinhan, Deconstructing The Hero (1997). Film ini menunjukkan adanya penyesuasi tokoh Snow White sebagai perempuan menjadi sosok pahlawan yang terjenderkan maskulin.Snow White sebagai perempuan ditampilkan sebagai submisif, pasif, tidak berdaya dan dalam ranah domestik sehingga berlawanan dengan kualitas maskulin sosok pahlawan.Melalui analisis lewat mise-en-scene dalam film, tokoh Snow White menunjukkan pengadopsian terhadap kualitas maskulin sosok pahlawan agar dikukuhkan menjadi pahlawan.Kemudian, simbolisme yang dalam film juga memperlihatkan adanya justifikasi penokohan Snow White dalam konstruksi jender yang patriarki.

This focus of this study is to examine transformation of Snow White character in film Snow White and the Huntsman to perform aspects of the figure of hero by Margery Hourihan in her book, Deconstructing The Hero (1997). This film demonstrates adjustment Snow White character as a woman to be the figure of hero who is gendered masculine. Snow White as a woman is portrayed as submissive, passive, powerless and in the domestic sphere, in contrast with masculine quality in the figure of hero. Through mise-en-scene analysis in film, Snow White character reveals adopting to masculine quality in the figure of hero to be affirmed as a hero. Moreover, symbolism in film display the justification of Snow White’s characterization in accordance with gender construction based on the patriarchal system."

"ABSTRAKSnow White atau dalam bahasa Indonesia dikenal dengan Putri Salju adalah salah satu karakter fiksi yang pertama kali muncul dalam kumpulan dongeng milik Grimm Bersaudara. Penggambaran mengenai karakteristik seorang putri yang melekat pada karakter Snow White dalam dongeng membuat masyarakat memiliki konsep atau imaji seorang putri. Namun seiring perkembangan zaman, banyak dongeng yang menjadi acuan adaptasi untuk berbagai film, salah satunya film Snow White and the Huntsman produksi Hollywood sebagai hasil adaptasi dari dongeng Schneewittchen dalam kumpulan dongeng karya Grimm Bersaudara. Namun berbeda dengan karakter Snow White yang sudah dikenal masyarakat melalui dongeng, karakter Snow White dalam film mengalami perluasan yang cukup terlihat. Secara khusus, penelitian ini akan membahas mengenai perluasan karakter yang dialami oleh tokoh Snow White dalam film versi Hollywood serta bagaimana peran Hollywood dalam industri perfilman nasional dan internasional. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan teori representasi Stuart Hall, dan mitos dari Roland Barthes serta teori Gender."

"American Hustle 2013 merupakan film Hollywood yang mana plot dan karakternya secara umum dibuat berdasarkan pada peristiwa operasi ABSCAM yang dilakukan oleh FBI di akhir tahun 1970. Akan tetapi, terdapat beberapa perubahan dalam penggambaran tokoh Sydney Prosser dan perannya di dalam film ini yang justru menghasilkan penggambaran Sydney Prosser versi modern yang mana sangat berbeda dari karakter tokoh dalam peristiwa sebenarnya. Oleh karena itu, makalah ini mencoba untuk membahas bagaimana penggambaran modern tokoh Sydney Prosser dan interaksinya dengan para tokoh utama pria yang justru menunjukkan adanya bias patriarki pada akhirnya menciptakan ambivalensi terhadap representasi perempuan dalam film ini dengan menggunakan pendekatan analisis kritis dan tekstual dalam kaitannya dengan teori representasi gender dan patriarki.

American Hustle 2013 is a Hollywood film whose plot and characters are generally based on the real story during the FBI ABSCAM operation. Nevertheless, several planned transformations in depicting Sydney Prosser and her role result in promoting modern image of her character which is quite different from the real one. Therefore, this paper attempts to discover how Sydney Prosser's image and her interactions with the male protagonists imply patriarchal biases which actually create ambivalences toward women's representation by using critical and textual analysis and the framework of gender representation and patriarchy. "Howl’s Moving Castle adalah film animasi yang disutradarai oleh Hayao Miyazaki yang menceritakan seorang perempuan muda, Sophie, yang mengalami transformasi menjadi seorang wanita tua akibat kutukan dari penyihir. Perubahan yang dialami Sophie mempengaruhi penampilan hingga persepsi dirinya tentang nilai dan potensi diri. Berdasarkan hal itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan perempuan tua dan penerapan successful aging oleh karakter Sophie yang direpresentasikan dalam film Howl’s Moving Castle. Penulis menggunakan teori successful aging milik Meredith Troutman Flood (2005) dan kemudian dianalisis menggunakan metode sinematografi yang berfokus pada berbagai tipe pengambilan gambar dan mise en scene yang berfokus pada elemen setting, the human figure dan composition. Film ini menggambarkan penuaan sebagai suatu proses alami yang harus diterima dan memperlihatkan bahwa nilai sejati seseorang tidak terletak pada penampilan fisik semata, melainkan kebaikan dalam diri. Film ini juga menyoroti bagaimana masyarakat sering kali mengesampingkan dan mempersempit definisi kecantikan dan nilai perempuan berdasarkan usia.

Howl's Moving Castle is an animated film directed by Hayao Miyazaki that tells the story of a young girl, Sophie, who is transformed into an old woman due to a curse from a witch. Sophie's transformation affects her appearance and her perception of self-worth and potential. Based on that, this study aims to describe the old woman and the application of successful aging by Sophie's character as represented in the movie Howl's Moving Castle. The author uses Meredith Troutman Flood's successful aging theory (2005) and then analyzes it using cinematography methods that focus on various types of shots and mise en scene that focuses on the elements of setting, the human figure and composition. The film depicts aging as a natural process that must be accepted and shows that a person's true value does not lie in physical appearance alone, but rather the goodness within. The film also highlights how society often overrides and narrows the definition of beauty and the value of women based on age."

"The Princess and the Frog (2009) merupakan film animasi pertama Disney yang menggambarkan kehidupan seorang putri kulit hitam. Isu peran gender dan rasial dalam film ini dianggap krusial untuk dianalisis karena perempuan Afrika-Amerika mengalami kolonisasi ganda, terutama dalam mengejar American Dream. Analisis terhadap beberapa unsur film seperti penokohan, konflik, latar, dan tema berperan penting untuk memahami isu-isu tersebut. Film ini memperlihatkan bahwa Disney melakukan upaya negosiasi terhadap beberapa nilai yang telah dikritik oleh para feminis dalam Disney Princess Fairy Tales sebelumnya. The Princess and the Frog (2009) is the first Disney?s animated movie which depicts the life of a Black princess. Gender roles and racial issues are the two important points in this thesis because African-American women experience double-colonization, especially in pursuing American Dream. Those issues will be analyzed by examining some movie elements such as characterization, conflict, setting, and theme. This movie seems to show that Disney try to negotiate some values that have previously been criticized by feminists in Disney Princess Fairy Tales. However, the result of the analysis shows that Disney does not do significant changes in presenting love and marriage aspects to create a happy ending."

"Gender kerap disalahartikan sebagai jenis kelamin, padahal keduanya merupakan hal yang berbeda. Pada tahun 2023, Korea Selatan meluncurkan film berjudul Kill Boksoon yang mencoba mengangkat isu dekonstruksi gender. Penulis tertarik untuk mengetahui gambaran perempuan yang bekerja sebagai pembunuh bayaran melalui produk budaya populer Korea Selatan tersebut. Pertanyaan penelitian ini adalah bagaimana perempuan yang berprofesi sebagai pembunuh bayaran digambarkan menjalankan perannya sebagai pencari nafkah dan ibu dalam film Kill Boksoon. Metode yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif dengan teknik simak catat untuk mengumpulkan data. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan penggambaran perempuan dengan sifat maskulin saat bekerja dan sifat feminin ketika memenuhi peran seorang ibu.

Gender is often confused with sex, even though they are different things. In 2023, South Korea released a movie titled Kill Boksoon which tries to raise the issue of gender deconstruction. The author wants to explore the representation of women working as hitman through South Korea's popular culture product. The issue discussed in this research is how women working as hitmen are portrayed in carrying out their roles as breadwinners and mother in the movie Kill Boksoon. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative with note-taking techniques to collect data. The result of this research shows the representation of women who exhibit masculine characteristics when working and feminine characteristics when fulfilling the role of a mother."

"Proses adaptasi teks dongeng menjadi film semakin banyak dilakukan oleh produser film Hollywood. Salah satunya ialah film Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters (2013) produksi Paramount Pictures yang diadaptasi dari dongeng Grimm bersaudara. Penelitian ini membahas imaji Hollywood yang direpresentasikan dalam film Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters (2013). Dengan metode kualitatif berupa deskriptif analisis, penelitian ini berfokus pada bagaimana imaji Hollywood dikemas dalam film. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa adanya imaji-imaji baru yang berbeda dengan versi aslinya disebabkan karena adanya pengembangan cerita serta perubahan motif yang dilakukan oleh tim produksi. Imaji Hollywood dalam film ini digambarkan melalui penokohan, alur dan cerita, dialog antar tokoh serta ekspresi yang dikemas berbeda dari versi dongeng Grimm. Hal ini berkaitan dengan tujuan Hollywood sebagai industri global yang ingin menciptakan suatu hiburan massa yang menjangkau pasar internasional.

The adaptation of fairy-tale texts into films is increasingly being carried out by Hollywood film producers. The film Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters (2013) is produced by Paramount Pictures which was adapted from the fairy tale of the Brothers Grimm Hansel und Gretel. This study discusses Hollywood images represented in the film Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters (2013). With qualitative methods in the form of descriptive analysis, this study focuses on how Hollywood images are packaged in films. The results of the study show new images that are different from the original version. The result is due to the development of stories and changes in motives carried out by the production team. Hollywood images in this film are portrayed through characterizations, lines and stories, dialogues between characters and expressions that are packaged differently from the fairytale version of Grimm. The result also show how Hollywood as a global industry create a mass entertainment that reaches international markets."

"Film Ne Zha (2019) merupakah salah satu film animasi dari Cina yang mengisahkan mengenai seorang anak laki-laki bernama Ne Zha yang terlahir sebagai seorang iblis karena mutiara iblis. Akibat mutiara iblis berdampak pada kehidupan Ne Zha yang memiliki karakter anti-hero namun berakhir menjadi hero. Objek yang diteliti pada penelitian berfokus pada karakter hero dan karakter anti-hero pada tokoh utama Ne Zha pada film tersebut. Karakter hero dan anti-hero tercipta karena adanya beberapa aspek yang mempengaruhinya. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan cara metode kualitatif dan studi dokumen serta mengumpulkan data melalui online browsing. Artikel ini menyimpulkan bahwa karakter hero dan anti-hero pada tokoh Nezha menghasilkan keunikan, menggambarkan karakteristik budaya Cina yang cenderung mencari keseimbangan antara kekuatan positif dan negatif dalam mencapai sebuah kondisi ideal.

Ne Zha Movie (2019) is one of the animated films from China that tells the story of a boy named Ne Zha who was born as a demon because of the demon pearl. The result of the demon's pearl has an impact on Ne Zha's life who has an anti-hero character but ends up becoming a hero. The object studied in the research afocuses on the hero character and anti-hero aspects of the main character Ne Zha in the movie. Hero and anti-hero characters are created because of several aspects that influence them. This research was conducted by qualitative methods and document studies and collecting data through online browsing. This research concludes that Nezha's hero and anti-hero characters produce uniqueness, reflecting the characteristics of Chinese culture which tend to seek a balance between positive and negative forces in achieving an ideal condition."
