ABSTRACTSnow White and the Huntsman is a 2012 Hollywood film that dramatically deconstructs a classic Grimm?s fairytale story of Snow White both in its plot and character, and is regarded as a film that is made with a conscious feminist agenda. Unfortunately, this film has not been extensively discussed for the ambivalences in women?s representation that perpetuate the long-held patriarchal beliefs of women. This is what this study attempts to accomplish through a critical and textual analysis of Snow White and Huntsman. It explores, in particular, how women are controlled by men?s idealized beauty and how the ambivalence towards women?s representation is depicted in this film. The findings show that Snow White and the Huntsman has ambivalences towards feminism: on the one hand, women are strongly depicted as heroes, but on the other hand they are depicted as men?s stuff that controlled by men?s idealized beauty. This study contributes to women studies on the representations of women in today?s film, providing a framework for understanding how patriarchal bias is in today?s society., Snow White and the Huntsman is a 2012 Hollywood film that dramatically deconstructs a classic Grimm’s fairytale story of Snow White both in its plot and character, and is regarded as a film that is made with a conscious feminist agenda.
