"Penelitian ini mengkaji mengenai representasi pendeta Buddha di Jepang yang digambarkan dalam film Fancy Dance. Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk menggambarkan sosok pendeta Buddha Jepang yang tidak mengindahkan sepuluh jalan perilaku kebaikan (Juuzen). Penelitian dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode penulisan deskriptif analisis, yaitu metode penulisan dengan menggunakan data utama berupa data pustaka yaitu film Fancy Dance yang akan dideskripsikan menggunakan pendekatan semiotika untuk mencari makna di dalam tanda-tanda budaya dalam film ini. Sumber data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah film Fancy Dance karya Masaki Suo yang diadaptasi dari manga (komik Jeoang) berjudul Fanshii Dansu karya Reiko Okano. Teori yang diguankan dalam menganalisis representasi pendeta Buddha ini adalah teori semiotic dalam televise milik John Fiske serta teori ajaran Buddha Dasar tentang Juuzen (sepuluh jalan perilaku kebaikan) yang diungkapkan kembali oleh Etty N Anwar. Setelah dianalisis perilaku Buddha dalam film ini melakukan tindakan yang tidak sesuai dengan Juuzen, namun hal ini tidak dianggap sebagai dosa yang serius. Hal tersebut berhubungan dengan konsep bonno o ikasu yang terdapat dalam ajaran Buddhisme di Jepang yang mengakui adanya nafsu dalam diri setiap manusia yang lahir secara alami.

This research is examining about the representation of the Buddhist priest that is reflected in the Fancy Dance movie.the purpose of the research is to describe a Buddhist priest role that is not obey the ten good acts (Juuzen). The research is using the semiotic analyzing method to find the meaning of the culture signs on this movie. The data source that is used on this research is the Fancy Dance movie by Masaki Suo that is adapted from a manga titled Fanshii Dansu by Reiko Okano. The theory that is used in analyzing this Buddhist priest representation is a semiotic theory by John Fiske, and the theory of the basic Buddhist way about Juuzen (the ten good acts) which is rephrased again by Etty N. Anwar. The analyzing the Buddhist priest’s action on this movie, it is not proper with the Juuzen, but this thing is not considered as a serious sin. It is related with the Bonno o Ikasu concept that’s on the Buddhism wa y which is admit secular desire that we have as a human which is naturally born from our body."
