"Konflik dapat mempengaruhi performa organisasi secara menguntungkan maupun merugikan terhadap performa organisasi. Fokus dari tesis ini adalah untuk mencari hubungan antara pendekatan Manajer Proyek terhadap konflik dan persepsi anggota tim proyek tentang efektifitas Manajer Proyek dalam menangani konflik. Kuisioner didistribusikan kepada responden yang bekerja di sektor hulu industry minyak dan gas bumi di Indonesia. Manajer Proyek dipersepsikan efektif menangani konflik di dalam proyek jika menggunakan pendekatan kooperatif (cooperative) dan konfirmatif (confirmative). Sebaliknya, Manajer Proyek dipersepsikan tidak efektif dalam menangani konflik di dalam proyek jika menggunakan pendekatan kompetitif (competitive) dan menghindar (avoidance).

This thesis focused on looking at the association between conflict approaches implemented by the Project Manager and project team member's perception on the effectiveness of the Project Manager in managing project's conflict. Project Manager is perceived to be effective in managing project conflict when implementing cooperative and confirmative approaches. Project Manager is perceived to be in-effective in managing project conflict when implementing competitive and avoidance approaches."

Questionnaires were modified from Barker et al. (1988) to measure conflict managementapproaches and outcomes of managing project conflict. Data were gathered from 57respondents who worked in the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractorsserving the upstream sector of the Oil and Gas industry in Indonesia. By using Pearson correlation,result of this study indicated that project managers were perceived to be effective in managingproject conflict when implementing cooperative and confirmative approaches, but ineffectivewhen combining competitive and avoidance approaches. Further research should investigate correlationbetween cultural dimensions with conflict approaches and outcomes of managing conflict."
