"Disertasi ini membahas representasi imigran oleh Uni Eropa di booklet Festival Film Europe on Screen Indonesia. Data diambil dari lima booklet festival dari tahun 2008 hingga 2011. Tujuannya adalah untuk melihat bagaimana imigran dalam masyarakat multikultur UE direpresentasikan kepada Indonesia dan apakah latar belakang ideologinya. Penelitian kualitatif ini menggunakan teori sirkuit budaya sebagai kerangka teori dan representasi konstruksionis dengan semiotik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya pola dan ideologi orientalis kepada Indonesia pada data penelitian.

This dissertation discusses immigrant representation by the European Union in Indonesian Europe on screen Film Festival booklets. Data are obtained from five booklets from 2008 until 2011. The goal is to see how immigrants in European Union multicultural society are represented to Indonesia and to discover the ideological background of the representation. This research adopts circuit of culture the grand theory, with constructive representation approach, using semiotic method. Research results arising from data analysis suggest a pattern of orientalist ideology towards Indonesia found on the research data verified."

"Jurnal akademik ini berjudul “Representasi Heroisme Walter Süskind dalam Film Süskind”. Obyek penelitian yang dikaji berupa film Süskind dari Belanda yang menjadikan Holokaus pada Perang Dunia II sebagai latar cerita utama. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah memperlihatkan bagaimana film Süskind merepresentasikan heroisme yang diangkat dari sejarah hidup dan upaya Walter Süskind dalam menyelamatkan ratusan anak-anak Yahudi dari program pembersihan etnis Yahudi oleh NAZI di Belanda melalui metode pengkajian analisis deskriptif dan memperlakukan film sebagai teks. Teori-teori yang digunakan di antaranya teori Representasi oleh Hall (2003) dan definisi Heroisme oleh Franco, Blau, dan Zimbardo (2011). Pencitraan heroisme muncul hampir di seluruh sekuens film dengan berbagai stimulus tindakan heroisme pada tokoh utama. Representasi nilai-nilai heroisme dari yang kecil hingga besar, tersirat maupun tersurat ditampilkan secara utuh dalam film lewat penokohan yang ada.

This academic journal titled "Representation of Heroism of Walter Süskind on Süskind The Film". The object that being examined is a Dutch movie named Suskind with the Holocaust in World War II as the background of the main story. The purpose of this research is to show how the film represents heroism from the biography and the efforts of Walter Suskind in saving hundreds of Jewish children from the of Jewish ethnic cleansing programme by the Nazis in the Netherlands through a descriptive analysis method and treat the film as a text. The theories being used are the Representation theory by Hall (2003) and the definition of Heroism by Franco, Blau, and Zimbardo (2011). The imaging of heroism emerge in almost all film sequences with various stimulii of heroism to the main character. Representation of the heroism values from small to large are implicitly and explicitly shown completely in the film through the existing characterizations."

"ABSTRAKKarya sastra anak kerapkali memperkuat gagasan gender, entah itu melalui representasi gender, konstruksi gender, dll. Sebagai kerangka teoretisnya, penelitian ini bergantung pada teori Judith Butler tentang identitas yang dibangun secara sosial dan teori esensialisme gender untuk mempelajari konstruksi identitas gender tokoh utama dalam The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane karya Kate Dicamillo. Dalam teorinya, Judith menyatakan bahwa identitas gender kita adalah produk konstruksi sosial yang diabadikan melalui wacana-wacana untuk menciptakan rasa identitas yang melekat; yang berarti bahwa itu bukan proses alami. Sebaliknya, pendekatan esensialisme pada identitas gender menekankan bahwa ada esensi sejati dalam identitas gender kita. Makalah ini, dengan demikian, berfokus pada analisis kontestasi antara konstruksi sosial identitas gender dan esensialisme gender yang dipostulasikan dalam buku ini. Jurnal ini juga mengkaji bagaimana konstruksi identitas gender Edward - yang digambarkan melalui konstruksi sosial ndash; sebetulnya mengemukakan ide esensialisme gender.

ABSTRACTChildren 39;s literature often reinforces the idea of gender, whether it is through the representation of genders, the construction of genders, etc. As its theoretical framework, this study depends on Judith Butler 39;s theory of socially constructed identity and the theory of gender essentialism to study gender identity construction of the main character in Kate Dicamillo 39;s The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. In her theory, Judith states that our gender identity is a product of social construction that is perpetuated through discourses to achieve a sense of inherent identity, meaning that it is not a natural process. On the contrary, essentialism approach on gender identity stresses that there is a true essence in our gender identity. This paper, thus, focuses on analyzing the contestation between the social construction of gender identity and gender essentialism that is postulated in the book. It also examines how the construction of Edward 39;s gender identity mdash;which is articulated to be embodying a socially constructed identity mdash;propounds the idea of gender essentialism."

"ABSTRAKSkripsi ini membahas tentang konsep pernikahan putih di dalam budaya Baratyang direpresentasikan oleh film Bride Wars. Dengan menggunakan teorisemiotik milik Roland Barthes, beberapa ritual serta atribut pernikahan putih yangditampilkan dalam film tersebut dianalisa untuk mengetahui makna yang terdapatdi dalamnya, terkhusus makna konotasi atau mitos. Dari analisa tersebut,diketahui bahwa di dalam ritual dan atribut pernikahan putih terdapat mitos-mitosyang memanipulasi perempuan. Mitos-mitos tersebut membentuk tataran idealpernikahan yang harus dipenuhi oleh perempuan. Tuntutan untuk perempuanmengikuti tataran ideal tersebut akhirnya membangun karakter-karakter di dalamdiri perempuan, yang tanpa disadari merugikan diri perempuan itu sendiri

ABSTRACTThe focus of this study is to show the way the white wedding concept manipulate

women as represented in a movie, titled Bride Wars. Using the semiotic theory of

Roland Barthes, some white wedding rituals and attributes in Bride Wars are

analyzed in order to find the denotative and conotative meanings within them.

From the analysis, it is shown that the connotative meanings or myths which lies

within the rituals and attributes manipulate the idea of wedding on women?s

minds. The myths unconciously put pressure in women?s mind so that women

follow the ideal standard of a wedding which is constructed by the myth.

Unfortunately, the pressure build some characters within women that causes

detriment to women."
