"Siklodekstrin adalah bahan pengenkapsulasi yang dikenal dengan struktur yang unik dengan rongga internal hidrofobik dan bagian luar bersifat hidrofilik. Siklodekstrin dan turunannya dapat digunakan untuk meningkatkan kelarutan dan bioavailabilitas zat aktif, meningkatkan absorpsi oral, dan mengurangi rasa pahit dengan cara membentuk kompleks inklusi dengan senyawa lain. Siklodekstrin dilaporkan telah berhasil memperbaiki sifat fisikokimia beberapa senyawa fitokimia. Andrografolid, metabolit aktif yang diperoleh dari Herba Andrographis paniculata (Burm. f.) Wall. Ex Nees memiliki khasiat antibakteri, antiinflamasi, antioksidan, dan antikanker. Namun, kelarutan dalam air yang buruk dan rasanya yang sangat pahit membuat penggunaannya sangat terbatas. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian yang telah dilaporkan, kompleksasi andrografolid dengan siklodekstrin dan turunannya dapat meningkatkan kelarutan dalam air dan laju disolusi, serta mengurangi rasa pahit. Artikel ini memuat penjelasan singkat mengenai kompleksasi andrografolid dengan B-siklodekstrin dan hidroksipropil-B-siklodekstrin, metode pembuatannya, dan karakterisasi kompleks inklusi yang telah dilakukan. Penggunaan hidroksipropil-B-siklodekstrin dengan metode freeze-drying menunjukkan hasil terbaik dalam meningkatkan kelarutan dan disolusi andrografolid.

Cyclodextrin is an encapsulated material known for its unique structure with a hydrophobic internal cavity and a hydrophilic exterior. Cyclodextrin and its derivatives are used to increase the solubility and bioavailability of active substances, facilitate absorption through the mucosa or skin, increase oral absorption, and improve the bitter taste by making inclusion complexes with other compounds. Cyclodextrin has succeeded in improving the physicochemical properties of various phytochemical compounds. Andrographolide, an active metabolite from the Andrographis paniculata (Burm. f.) Nees herb, has antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anticancer properties. However, its use limited due to poor water solubility and very bitter taste. Based on the findings of reported research investigations, andrographolide complexes with cyclodextrins could increase water solubility, dissolution rate, and reduce bitter taste. This article summarized the complexation of andrographolide with B-cyclodextrin and hydroxypropyl-B-cyclodextrin, complexation methods, and characterization of inclusion complexes. The use of hydroxypropyl-B-cyclodextrin by freeze-drying method produces the best results in increasing the solubility and dissolution of andrographolide."

Jumlah suplemen yang kian beragam menuntut Apotek untuk dapat terus mencari tahu mengenai evidence base pada setiap keputusan penggunaan suplemen tersebut yag diharapkan dapat membantu meningkatkan kualitas hidup pasie atupunmenjadi terapi obat komplementer. Sehingga perlu dilakukannya review efikasi, keamanan dan manfaat biaya dalam suplemen erta studi kasus pasien di apotek.

Food supplements can be in the form of solid products including tablets, lozenges, effervescent tablets, chewable tablets, powders, soft capsules, granules, pastilles, or liquid products in the form of drops, syrups, solutions.

The number of supplements that are increasingly diverse requires pharmacies to be able to continue to find out about the evidence base for each decision to use these supplements which are expected to help improve the patient's quality of life or become complementary drug therapy. So it is necessary to review the efficacy, safety and cost benefits of supplements as well as case studies of patients in pharmacies.
