"Konsep kebahagiaan yang tercantum dalam naskah deklarasi kemerdekaan Amerika Serikat, dalam kaitannya tidak hanya menyatakan merdeka sebagai negara tetapi juga mengupayakan ‘merdeka’ bagi warga negaranya sebagai manusia, layak dijadikan perenungan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan alternatif cara pandang hidup yang bersifat proaktif agar kehidupan yang dijalani manusia menjadi bermakna dan akhirnya layak untuk dijalani melalui penggunaan metode reduksionis. Argumen utama yang dikemukakan dalam penelitian ini adalah pengejaran kebahagiaan, dalam pandangan Bertrand Russell, adalah langkah fundamental untuk menemukan makna hidup yang autentik, sekaligus menciptakan kondisi kehidupan yang layak dijalani dengan penuh kepuasan dan makna. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan analisis historis dan analisis kritis mengenai konsep kebahagiaan, serta menggunakan pemikiran Russell dalam konsep pengejaran kebahagiaan. Kesimpulannya, makna hidup harus ditemukan dan dijawab terlebih dahulu dan perlunya upaya menaklukan kebahagiaan melalui tindakan proaktif agar hidup menjadi layak dijalani.
