ABSTRAKIn a Journal of Personality and Social Psychology article, Sedikides, Gaertner and Vevea (2005) presented two meta-analyses that include eight papers to investigate the question of whether people from Eastern cultures self-enchance more for traits that they view to be important compared to those that they view as unimportant. The results supported their hypotesis: Self-enchancement appears to be pancultural. However, this conclusion is severely compromised by six relevant papaers that are not included in their meta-analyses. Importantly, all of these six studies contradicted their hyphotesis. When complete meta-analyses are conducted which include all of the relevant papers, a very different pattern of results emerges. Eastern and Western cultures do not differ from each other in the pattern of their self-enchancement of independent and interdependent traits. Furthermore, whereas Westerners self-enchanced significantly more for traits that they viewed to be especially important, East Asians did not. Contrary to the Sedikides et al. (2005) suggestion, the existing evidence suggests substantial cross-cultural variation in self-enchancement, with Westeners being far more self-enchancing than Easterners. Reasons for the conflicting pattern of findings across methods and meta-analyses are discussed. "

"Kesehatan mental dibutuhkan mahasiswa psikologi terkait persiapan mereka untuk berkecimpung dalam helping profession. Dukungan sosial, terutama perceived social support, dan self-esteem dapat memengaruhi kesehatan mental (Taylor & Brown, 1988; Vinokur, Schul, & Caplan, 1987; Zimet, Dahlem, Zimet & Farley 1988). Berbagai penelitian menemukan semakin tinggi perceived social support seseorang, semakin tinggi self-esteem yang dimiliki. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara perceived social support dan selfesteem mahasiswa psikologi jenjang sarjana. Perceived social support diukur dengan Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (Zimet et al., 1988) dan self-esteem dengan Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (Rosenberg, 1965). Dari 184 mahasiswa jenjang sarjana Fakultas Psikologi Universitas Indonesia yang menjadi partisipan, hasil yang didapatkan menunjukkan adanya hubungan positif yang signifikan antara perceived social support dan self-esteem pada mahasiswa psikologi jenjang sarjana (r = 0.274; p < 0.01). Berdasarkan hasil, pendidikan psikologi dapat memerhatikan perceived social support sebagai salah satu cara meningkatkan self-esteem mahasiswa, seperti dengan melakukan intervensi psikoedukasi.
Psychology students need good mental health to be a helping professional. Social support, especially perceived social support, and self-esteem found to influence mental health (Taylor & Brown, 1988; Vinokur, Schul, & Caplan, 1987; Zimet, Dahlem, Zimet & Farley 1988). Recent studies found that people with higher level of perceived social support are having higher level of self-esteem. This research was conducted to find the relation between perceived social support and self-esteem in undergraduate psychology students. Perceived social support was measured using Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (Zimet et al., 1988) and self-esteem was measured using Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (Rosenberg, 1965). The participants of this research are 184 University of Indonesia undergraduate psychology students. The main results of this research show that perceived social support correlated significantly with self-esteem (r = 0.274; p < 0.01). Results of this study may be taken by psychology educational institution to increase the concern of perceived social support as one of the factor to increase their students’ self-esteem level, for example is by making a psychoeducational intervention."

"Penelitian ini ingin melihat sejauh mana ilmu psikologi membantu mahasiswa psikologi memahami konsep diri yang dimiliki. Penelitian dilakukan pada 195 mahasiswa Fakultas Psikologi UI yang terdiri dari angkatan 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, dan 2012. Kuesioner kualitatif digunakan untuk mengetahui pandangan mahasiswa terhadap kebermanfaatan ilmu psikologi, sementara pendekatan kuantitatif menggunakan kuesioner Tennese Self-Concept Scale (TSCS) untuk melihat aspek konsep diri yang mengalami peningkatan sebagai hasil dari adanya pemahaman konsep diri mahasiswa psikologi. Kesimpulan yang diperoleh adalah bahwa ilmu psikologi sudah membantu pemahaman konsep diri mahasiswa psikologi UI, dimana pemahaman tersebut terlihat pada aspek personal dan sosial.
This research aims to observe how far psychology helps psychology students to understand self-concept owned. Research’s participants were from five batches, which are 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012. Qualitative approach is used to understand student’s perspective towards psychology. While, Tennesse Self-Concept Scale (TSCS) Questionnaire used is used for Quantitative approach to see certain self-concept aspect(s) which developed because of the improvement of psychology students understanding of self-concept. This research concludes that psychology has already helped psychology students in Universitas Indonesia to understand deeper self-concept in both personal and social aspects."

"Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menginvestigasi dampak self-esteem terhadap perilaku kemalasan sosial. Penelitian ini menggunakan design 2x2 independent group antara dua kondisi tugas (koaktif x kolektif) dan dua tingkat kesulitan tugas (mudah x sulit). Partisipan di dalam grup kondisi koaktif menyelesaikan tugas secara individu sedangkan partisipan di dalam group kondisi kolektif menyelesaikan tugas secara berkelompok. Partisipan di dalam group tugas mudah diminta untung menghafal 15 nama buah dan hewan sedangkan partisipan di dalam group tugas sulit diminta untuk menghafal 15 istilah ilmiah. Setelah itu partisipan diminta untuk mengisi kuesioner untuk mengukur self-esteem mereka. Tugas tersebut diberikan kepada 60 mahasiswa dengan jumlah yang seimbang untuk setiap group.
Hasil analisis menunjukan bahwa partisipan yang berada dalam grup tugas mudah mengerahkan usaha yang lebih besar dalam mengerjakan tugas ketika bekerja sendiri dibandingkan dengan ketika bekerja bersama-sama. Namun prestasi partisipan yang berada di dalam group tugas sulit tidak berbeda. Partisipan di dalam grup tugas sulit mempunyai self-esteem lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan partisipan di dalam group tugas mudah. Di dalam grup kondisi koaktif, self-esteem yang rendah mengarah kepada kompensasi sosial sedangkan di dalam group kolektif hal tersebut mengarah kepada kemalasan sosial. Partisipan dengan self-esteem yang tinggi cenderung mengerahkan usaha yang lebih besar di dalam group kolektif. Kesimpulannya, penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa self-esteem mempengaruhi kemalasan sosial. Kinerja sebuah group dapat ditingkatkan dengan memfokuskan persepsi anggota kelompok tentang kesulitan tugas yang dilakukan.
This research aimed to investigate the effect of self-esteem in social loafing. 2x2 independent group analysis was conducted between task condition (coactive x collective) and task difficulty (easy x difficult). Participants in the coactive task condition complete the task individually whereas participants in the collective task condition complete the task as a group. Participants in the easy task condition were asked to memorize 15 fruit and animal name whereas participants in the difficult task condition were asked to memorize 15 scientific terms. Afterward, the participants were asked to complete questionnaire to measure their self-esteem. The task was given to 60 university students with equal amount for each group. As expected, the results show that participants in easy task condition exert more effort when working coactively compared to working collectively. However, the performances do not differ in the difficult task condition. Participants in the difficult condition have higher selfesteem than participants in the easy condition. In coactive condition, low self-esteem lead to social compensation whereas in collective condition, it leads to social loafing behavior. On the other hand, people with high self-esteem incline to exert more effort for group performance. In conclusion, this research suggests that self-esteem affects social loafing. We can increase group performance by focusing on group members perceptions of the task difficulty."

Pengukuran self-disclosure menggunakan alat ukur Jourard Self- Disclosure Questionnaire yang dikembangkan oleh Jourard pada tahun 1958 dan pengukuran self-esteem menggunakan alat ukur Rosenberg Self- Esteem Scale yang dikembangkan oleh Rosenberg pada tahun 1965. Partisipan dalam penelitian ini berjumlah 177 mahasiswa jenjang sarjana Fakultas Psikologi Universitas Indonesia angkatan 2009, 2010, 2011, dan 2012. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan tidak terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara self-disclosure dan self-esteem pada mahasiswa psikologi program sarjana [r= -0.015, p > 0.05, two-tailed].

"Dalam beberapa tahun terakhir, pertumbuhan TikTok telah mengingkat pesat. Namun, sampai sekarang hanya ada sedikit studi yang meneliti faktor-faktor psikologis yang terkait dengan penggunaannya. Untuk menanggulangi hal ini, studi ini mengkaji hubungan antara orientasi perbandingan sosial dan harga diri dalam konsumsi TikTok. Studi ini berhipotesis bahwa orientasi perbandingan sosial memiliki korelasi positif yang signifikan dengan konsumsi TikTok, sedangkan harga diri memiliki korelasi negative yang signifikan dengan konsumsi TikTok. Untuk mengukur hubungan ini, studi ini merekrut sampel dengan 381 partisipan yang menggunakan TikTok untuk melakukan survei korelasional. Hasil yang ditemukan mengkonfirmasi hipotesis yang dibuat. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa terdapat korelasi positif yang signifikan antara orientasi perbandingan social dan konsumsi TikTok. Sebuah korelasi negatif yang signifikan juga ditemukan antara harga diri dan konsumsi TikTok. Hasil ini mungkin mengindisikan pengadopsian TikTok yang negatif oleh partisipan yang dijelaskan dengan adanya orientasi perbandingan sosial sebagai mediator antara konsumsi TikTok dan harga diri. Dengan hasil yang ada, studi ini menyarankan untuk pengguna TikTok agar lebih memperhatikan kondisi psikologis mereka dan tingkatan konsumsi TikTok.
The growth of TikTok has been increasing rapidly over recent years. However, few studies have investigated the psychological factors linked to the use of it. To address this, our study examines the relationship between social comparison orientation and self-esteem in TikTok consumption This study hypothesize that social comparison orientation has a significant positive relationship with TikTok consumption while self-esteem has a significant negative relationship with TikTok consumption. To assess this relationship, a convenience sample of 381 participants who use TikTok were recruited to complete a correlational survey. The results found confirmed the hypotheses made. It was revealed that there is a significant positive correlation of social comparison orientation and TikTok consumption. A significant negative correlation of self-esteem and TikTok consumption was also found. This may imply participants’ negative adoption of TikTok, explained by having social comparison orientation as the mediator between TikTok consumption and self-esteem. Therefore, our findings suggest that TikTok users should be mindful about their psychological state and consumptions."

"Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membahas hubungan antara dukungan sosial dari orangtua dan self-esteem pada remaja awal anak buruh migran. Metode penelitian ini menggunakan penelitian kuantitatif dengan desain korelasional. Untuk mengukur dukungan sosial dari orangtua dan self-esteem penulis menggunakan alat ukur Child and Adolescent Social Support Scale (CASSS) subskala dukungan orangtua dan Rosenberg's Self-Esteem Scale (RSES). Penelitian ini melibatkan 164 remaja usia 11-16 tahun dengan orangtua buruh migran di Kabupaten Karawang, Jawa Barat.
Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat hubungan positif yang signifikan antara self-esteem dan dukungan sosial dari orangtua pada remaja anak buruh migran dengan r=0,264; p=0,000. Dengan demikian dukungan sosial dari orangtua sangat dibutuhkan dalam perkembangan self-esteem yang baik pada remaja awal anak buruh migran.
The purpose of this research is to discusses the relationship between social support from parents and self-esteem among early adolescent with migrant worker parents. This research methodhology using a quantitative study with a correlational design. To measure self-esteem and social support from parents, the author using Child and Adolescent Social support Scale (CASSS) parental support subscale and Rosenberg's Self-Esteem Scale (RSES). Respondents in this research were 164 adolescent, age 11-16 years old in Cilamaya, Karawang, West Java.The result showed there is a significant positive correlation between self-esteem and social support from parents with r=0,264; p=0,000. In conclusion, social support from parents needed for a good development of self-esteem on early adolescent migrant worker's children."

"Sebuah studi mengenai media sosial, seperti Facebook, menemukan bahwa ada hubungan antara social comparison orientation, self-esteem, dan penggunaan Facebook. TikTok adalah media sosial yang cukup baru tetapi hanya menerima sedikit penelitian mengenai hal tersebut. Oleh karena itu, studi ini bertujuan untuk menyelidiki apakah ada asosiasi antara penggunaan TikTok dengan social comparison orientation and self-esteem. Studi ini menggunakan desain penelitian korelasional. Tiga ratus delapan puluh satu partisipan telah direkrut melalui penyebaran survei daring dengan menggunakan convenience sample dari komunitas. Hasil dari studi ini adalah penggunaan TikTok memiliki korelasi positif dengan social comparison orientation dan korelasi negatif dengan self-esteem. Studi ini menawarkan rekomendasi praktikal untuk pengguna TikTok yaitu untuk membatasi penggunaan TikTok atau berhati-hati dalam penggunaan untuk mengurangi dampak buruk dari penggunaan TikTok.
A study on social media, such as Facebook, found that there is a relationship between social comparison orientation, self-esteem, and Facebook usage. TikTok is a relatively new social media platform yet there is less research on it. Therefore, the present study aims to investigate whether there is an association between TikTok consumption with social comparison orientation and self-esteem. This will be achieved by employing a correlational study design. Three hundred eighty-one participants were recruited through online survey dissemination that utilized a convenience sample from the community. Results showed that TikTok consumption is positively correlated to social comparison orientation and negatively correlated to self-esteem. This study offers a practical recommendation for TikTok users, suggesting that they should restrict their usage of TikTok or exercise caution while using it in order to mitigate the adverse consequences of TikTok consumption."
