"Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui frekuensi dan letak ramifikasi saluran akar yang ditemukan pada gigi molar. Penelitian ini menggunakan 56 gigi molar satu dan molar dua yang telah dicabut. Gigi-gigi ini terdiri dari 14 gigi molar satu rahang atas, 3 gigi molar dua rahang atas, 21 gigi molar satu rahang bawah dan 18 gigi molar dua rahang bawah.
Metode : gigi direndam dalam larutan saline sampai saat percobaan. Dilakukan pembukaan akses dan preparasi dengan k-file sampai no. 15 kemudian saluran akar diirigasi dengan larutan NaOCl 2,5%. Setelah dikeringkan, gigi didekalsifikasi. Agar gigi terlihat bening gigi direndam dalam metil salisilat. Untuk mengidentifikasi ramifikasi, tinta cina diinjeksikan ke dalam sistem saluran akar. Masingmasing gigi diperiksa jumlah, tipe dan letak ramifikasi di bawah stereomikroskop.
Hasil : Dari 56 gigi molar satu dan molar dua, 60,7% memiliki ramifikasi (46,4% saluran lateral; 10,7% apical ramifications dan 10,7% isthmus saluran akar). Sebanyak 50% ramifikasi terletak di 1/3 apikal dan 19,6% terletak di 1/3 tengah.
Kesimpulan: Frekuensi ramifikasi saluran akar pada gigi molar satu dan molar dua cukup tinggi dan paling banyak terletak pada daerah 1/3 apikal."

"Latar belakang: Smear layer akibat preparasi saluran akar dapat menyebabkan kegagalan perawatan Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis penggunaan dua macam irigan kombinasi terhadap pembersihan smear layer di daerah sepertiga apeks.
Metode: Tiga puluh gigi premolar tetap dibagi atas tiga kelompok sama besar Kelompok I, Kelompok II dan Kelompok II masing masing menggunakan irigan kombinasi NaOCl 2 625 asam sitrat 17 NaOCl 2 625 EDTA 17 dan Kelompok III kelompok kontrol menggunakan salin. Sisa smear layer di daerah sepertiga apeks diperiksa dengan SEM dan diukur dengan memberikan skor jika permukaan yang bersih dari smear layer adalah lebih dari 75 50 - 75 25 - 50 dan kurang dari 25 maka berturut turut diberi Skor 0 1 2 dan 3 Hasilnya dianalisis dengan Kolmogorov Smirnov.
Hasil: Tidak ada perbedaan signifikan dalam membersihkan smear layer antara Kelompok I dan II p 0 447 tetapi dibandingkan dengan kelompok kontrol Kelompok I dan II secara signfikan p 0 000 membersihkan smear layer lebih baik Kesimpulan Kombinasi irigan NaOCl - asam sitrat dan NaOCl - EDTA tidak berbeda pengaruhnya dalam membersihkan smear layer di daerah sepertiga apeks.

Background: Smear layer as a result of instrumentaion could influence the outcome of treatment. The aim of this study was to analyze the effectiveness of two combination of irigants in removing the smear layer in the root canal.
Methods: Thirty permanent premolars were divided in 3 groups equally Group I II and III used NaOCl 2 625 citric acid 17 NaOCl 2 625 EDTA 17 and saline solution control respectively. The remnants of smear layer were evaluated by SEM and were scored The Score was 0 1 2 or 3 if the remnants of the smear layer was less than 25 between 25 to 50 50 to 75 and more than 75 of the surface respectively and were analyzed by Kolmogorov Smirnov
Results: There was no significant different in removing the smear layer between the Group I and the Group II p 0 447 while comparing to the control group the experimental groups were significantly better p 0 000 Conclusion No difference in ability to remove the smear layer between combinations of irrigant of NaOCl 2 625 citric acid 17 and NaOCl 2 625 EDTA 17

"Background: Recently, honey has been widely used as a sweetener. Along with the people's awareness to control the intake of calorie, the consumption of lowcalorie sweetener is increasing as well. How much these sweeteners contribute to caries process, however, are still unknown.
Objective: To compare the changes of viscosity, pH, and buffering capacity of saliva after consuming water containing honey and low calorie sweetener.
Method: Each research subject aged 20-22 years old was asked to consume 150 ml water that contained 17 grams of honey or 2,5 grams of low-calorie sweetener in different day, and waited for 10 minutes before conducting the viscosity, pH, and buffering capacity of saliva?s test.
Results: The data was analyzed by Wilcoxon test with 0,05 level of significance. The results obtained were the significant decreases in values of viscosity and buffering capacity of saliva before and after consuming water containing honey and water containing low-calorie sweetener, significant decrease in pH value before and after consuming water containing honey, no significant decrease in pH value before and after consuming water containing low-calorie sweetener. In addition, there were no significant differences in values of viscosity, pH, and buffering capacity between the groups consuming water containing honey and low-calorie sweetener.
Conclusion: There were significant differences in viscosity and buffering capacity of saliva before and after onsuming water containing honey and water containing low-calorie sweetener. Meanwhile, there was significant difference for the pH value before and after consuming water containing honey, while there was no significant difference for the pH value before and after consuming water containing low-calorie sweetener. However, there were no significant differences in viscosity, pH, and buffering capacity of saliva after consuming water containing honey and water containing low-calorie sweetener."

"Latar Belakang: Bahan pemanis yang biasa digunakan oleh masyarakat Indonesia adalah gula sukrosa. Namun belakangan ini madu juga mulai dikenal dan dijadikan sebagai bahan pemanis. Kandungan karbohidrat yang tinggi di dalam kedua bahan pemanis ini dianggap dapat mempengaruhi proses karies gigi. Dengan mengidentifikasi kualitas saliva, dapat diketahui pengaruh kedua bahan pemanis ini terhadap karies gigi.
Tujuan: Membandingkan perubahan nilai viskositas, pH, dan kapasitas dapar saliva setelah konsumsi air madu dan air gula sukrosa.
Metode: Tiga puluh orang subyek yang berusia 20-22 tahun mengkonsumsi air madu dan air gula sukrosa pada hari yang berbeda, masingmasing sebanyak 150 ml. Subyek menunggu selama 10 menit sebelum dilakukan uji viskositas, pH, dan kapasitas dapar saliva.
Hasil Penelitian: Data dianalisis menggunakan uji Wilcoxon dengan tingkat kemaknaan p = 0,05. Setelah mengkonsumsi air madu dan air gula sukrosa, terjadi penurunan nilai viskositas, pH, dan kapasitas dapar saliva. Tetapi tidak terdapat perbedaan yang bermakna pada perbandingan nilai uji viskositas, pH, dan kapasitas dapar saliva antara setelah mengkonsumsi air madu dan setelah mengkonsumsi air gula sukrosa.
Kesimpulan: Pada penelitian ini didapatkan adanya penurunan yang bermakna pada nilai viskositas, pH, dan kapasitas dapar saliva setelah mengkonsumsi air madu dan air gula sukrosa. Namun, pada perbandingan nilai viskositas, pH, dan kapasitas dapar saliva setelah mengkonsumsi air madu dan setelah mengkonsumsi air gula sukrosa, tidak terdapat perbedaan bermakna di antara keduanya.

Background: Usually, the Indonesians use sugar as their main sweetener. But nowadays, honey also begins to be recognized and used as a sweetener too. Because of their high carbohydrate content, people assume that both of these sweeteners can influence the tooth caries process. By identifying the quality of saliva, we can get the information about the effects of these sweeteners in tooth caries process.

However, the comparison between the values of viscosity, pH, and buffering capacity after consuming water containing honey and water containing sugar were not significant."

"Latar Belakang: Siler yang baik adalah yang memiliki tingkat kebocoran mikro yang rendah Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis siler golongan resin SRE dan polidimetilsiloksan generasi baru SPGB
Metode: Tiga puluh dua gigi premolar bawah dibagi dua kelompok sama besar yaitu kelompok SRE dan SPGB Setelah pengisian saluran akar dengan teknik kondensasi lateral sampel diinkubasi 370C 24 jam mahkota dipotong menyisakan bagian akar 15 mm dilapis cat kuku kecuali 1 mm dari apeks lalu direndam dalam tinta India selama 7 X 24 jam Lalu sampel didekalsifikasi dengan asam nitrat 5 didehidrasi berturut turut dengan alkohol 80 90 dan 100 dan dibuat transparan dengan metil salisilat 100 Kedalaman penetrasi tinta dievaluasi dengan mikroskop stereo Skor 1 untuk penetrasi tinta 0 0 5 mm skor 2 untuk penetrasi tinta 0 51 1 mm dan skor 3 untuk penetrasi tinta 1 mm
Hasil: Distribusi proporsi kebocoran terbesar kelompok SRE terdapat pada skor 2 yaitu sebesar 56 3 Sedangkan distribusi proporsi kebocoran terbesar kelompok SPGB terdapat pada skor 1 yaitu sebesar 68 8 Dengan tes Kolmogorov Smirnov terdapat perbedaan bermakna antara kelompok SRE dan SPGB
Kesimpulan: Kebocoran mikro pengisiansaluran akar pada sepertiga apeks dengan siler polidimetilsiloksan generasi baru lebih rendah dibandingkan dengan siler resin epoksi

Background: An ideal root canal sealer should have good sealing ability The purpose of this study was to analyze the microleakage of obturation using epoxy resin based SRE and new generation polydimethylsiloxane based SPGB as root canal sealer
Methods: Thirty two mandibular first premolars were equally divided into two groups and obturated with lateral condensation technique The sealer used for Group I and Group II were SRE and SPGB respectively After obturation the specimens were incubated 370C 24 h decoronated sealed with nail polish except 1mm from apex immersed in Indian ink for 7 days decalcified with 5 nitric acid solution dehydrated with 80 90 and 100 alcohol consecutively and made transparent by immersing them in 100 methyl salicylate Dye penetration were evaluated under stereomicroscope and givenscore 1 3 Specimen with 0 0 5 mm dye penetration was given score 1 while 0 51 1 mm penetration was given score 2 and 1 mm was given score 3 The results were statistically analyzed with Kolmogorov Smirnov test
Results: The largest proportion distribution in SR group was score 2 56 3 whilst the largest proportion distribution in SPGB group was score 1 68 8 There was a significant difference between the microleakage of epoxy resin based and new generation polydimethylsiloxane based sealer observed from the one third apical leakage
Conclusion: The microleakage of new generation polydimethylsiloxanebasedsealer is lower than epoxy resin based sealer
