Background: Photonic therapy uses light to restore normal tissue condition. Various studies have been carried out to determine the effectiveness of photonic therapy as treatment for periodontitis and periimplantitis, but there are very limited quantitative analyses that have been done in that area. Global Burden of Disease Study 2017 reported that the prevalence for severe periodontitis in all age groups reached 796 million cases, while the prevalence for periimplantitis is 45% with a follow-up period up to nine years. Bibliometric analyses can be done according to keywords; publication characteristics such as year, country, institution, writer, type of publication; and journal characteristics. Objective: To conduct quantitative research regarding photonic therapy as treatment for periodontitis and periimplantitis in the last 20 years. Methods: Research was done using Scopus-based bibliographic data from March 1st 2003 until August 31st 2023. Data was filtered according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Filtered publication data was downloaded in CSV format and screened using the OpenRefine software. Analysis and visualization of the final data were conducted using softwares which were Scopus, TableauPublic, VosViewer, and Microsoft Excel. Results: There were 672 periodontitis publications, 222 periimplantitis publications, 836 periodontitis and/or periimplantitis publications related to photonic therapy. There is an uptrend on publications regarding photonic therapy in the last decade, 83.93% periodontitis-associated; 92.34% periimplantitis-associated; and 86.24% periodontitis and/or periimplantitis-associated. Publications with the most contribution was associated with keywords that were “humans” and “periimplantitis”; country of Brazil; institution of King Saud University; authors Garcia, V.G. and Theodoro, L.H; in the form of articles, and published in the journal Photodiagnosis and Photodynamic Therapy. Conclusion: The bibliometric analysis mapped and discussed publications in photonic therapy as treatment for periodontitis and periimplantitis in the last 20 years.

Background: Tooth with severe periodontal damage will result in an increase in tooth mobility. This tooth will be splint to prevent further damage. There has been no research on the distribution of periodontal status in periodontitis patient who were treated with temporary periodontal splint in Indonesia.
>Objective: Determine the distribution of periodontal status of tooth with periodontitis who were treated with temporary periodontal splints.
Method: This retrospective descriptive study was conducted using 47 periodontal medical record patient who were treated with temporary periodontal splints in RSKGM FKG UI Periodontia clinic period of 2018-2020.
Result: Temporary periodontal splint treatment was mostly performed on the anterior mandible (49,8%). The majority mobility of the tooth are grade 2 mobility (49,2%). Majority degree of bone damage is damage up to middle 1/3 (49.2%) with the most damage pattern is horizontal pattern (62.8%). Most of the clinical attachment loss is poor (76,8%). Dependent T-test result showed that there is a significant difference (p<0,05) between plaque index before and after 1 week of treatment with the mean after 1 week of treatment lower than before treatment.
Conclusion: Temporary periodontal splint treatment is most often performed on teeth with mobility grade 2, bone damage reaching the middle 1/3 of the root, and poor clinical attachment loss. Treatment is mostly done on mandibular anterior teeth. There is a significant difference between the plaque index before and after 1 week of treatment with the plaque index after 1 week decreased.

Metode: Pencarian studi melalui basis data elektronik menggunakan pedoman Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta Analysis (PRISMA).

Background: Periodontal disease not only affects oral health but also contributes to a variety of systemic disorders including hyperlipidemia which is one of the major risk factors for cardiovascular disease. The inflammatory mechanisms underlying periodontal disease are believed to affect lipid metabolism, thereby worsening the lipid profile of patients. Non-surgical periodontal treatment has been proposed as a potential intervention to reduce systemic inflammation and improve lipid profiles in various studies, despite previous findings showing inconsistent findings. Objective: To determine the effect of non-surgical periodontal treatment in patients with hyperlipidemia and periodontitis on the levels of pro-inflammatory biomarkers, TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6, and CRP as well as lipid profile. Methods: Study searches were conducted through electronic databases using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta Analysis (PRISMA) guidelines. Studies that meet the inclusion and exclusion criteria are then assessed for bias risk. Next, a meta-analysis was carried out. Results: Qualitative synthesis showed significant results on the effect of non-surgical periodontal treatment on the reduction of TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6 levels after treatment, but no significant reduction in CRP and lipid profile was found after treatment. Meta-analyses before and after non-surgical periodontal treatment showed a statistically significant effect on IL-6 levels with a mean difference of -0.74 pg/mL (95% CI:[-0.90;-0.57], p<0.00001) and TC levels with a mean difference of -36.19 (95% CI: [-61.00; - 11.38], p = 0.004). There is no significant effect on HDL levels with a mean difference of 0.12 (95% CI: [-2.28; 2.52], p = 0.92). Conclusions: Non-surgical periodontal treatment in patients with hyperlipidemia and periodontitis showed a significant effect on TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6 levels, but CRP levels and lipid profiles did not show a significant post-treatment effect on patients with hyperlipidemia and periodontitis."
