"A clinical trial was carried out to investigate the inhibitory effect of Anchovy of Stelophorus commersonil on the growth of salivary mutans streptococci over one week period. Methods: Before enrolled in the study, respondents filled and signed the informed consent. Twenty respondents participated in the study I, conducting two times of treatment as follows: twenty as treatment group before and after consuming anchovy of commersonii andthe twenty subjects as control group before and after consuming non-anchovy of commersonii. Saliva samples were collected before and after consuming anchovy of commersonii and with a non-anchovy of commersonii. A serial dilution was made, followed by inoculating on TYS20B medium (Schaeken., et al, 1986). Data were obtained from colony forming units of salivary mutans streptococci grew on the TYS20B medium before and after consuming anchovy of commersonii were analyzed in a descriptive and t test. Results: showed that there was no significant different in the average amount of Streptococcus mutans both between before and after consuming non-anchovy of commersonii. However, a significant difference was found respectively as results before and after consuming anchovy of commersonii. Conclusion: Anchovy of commersonii has an anti microbial activity against local strains of S.mutans isolated from human harbouring species. Long term consummation Anchovy fish of commersonii, can be beneficial in preventing caries. "

"The smoking habit has been associated with a variety of deleterious changes in the mouth including periodontal tissue. Several studies indicate a relationship between smoking and periodontal disease, including loss of alveolar bone, periodontal attachment as well as periodontal pocket formation. Subjects with a high standard of oral hygiene have been found to have greater bone loss in smokers than non smokers. Generally accepted, periodontal treatment procedures are less efficient in smokers. This holds true for surgical as well as nonsurgical therapy. Therefore, it is concluded that tobacco smoking is associated with an increased risk for destructive periodontal disease. This study is to investigate the effect of smoking on the oral immune response in subjects with periodontal disease by measuring the concentration of IgA in saliva from smokers and non smokers with turbi timer.
The results were compared and analyzed by ANOVA. The investigation showed that the level of IgA in saliva from smokers with severe periodontitis (x=39.30 IU/ml) as well as mild periodontitis (x= 84.86 IU/ml) were lower than non-smokers (severe periodontitis x= 51.67 IU/ml; mild periodontitis x=95.41 IU/ml). Furthermore, smokers with gingivitis (x123.76 IU/ml) and healthy gingiva (x=71.55 IU/ml) also had lower IgA levels in saliva compared with the non-smokers (gingivitis, x=145.11 IU/ml; healthy gingiva x=75.19 IU/ml). In conclusion , the investigation showed that all smokers especially smokers with periodontal disease had lower intra oral immune response compared with the non-smokers."

"ABSTRAK
Scaffold membran kitosan dan kitosan-RGD cangkang kepiting diproduksi oleh BATAN, untuk rekayasa jaringan pada rongga mulut. Sifat arsitektural kedua scaffold belum diteliti. Tujuan: Meneliti sifat arsitektural scaffold membran kitosan dan kitosan-RGD cangkang kepiting. Metode: Jumlah, ukuran, jarak antar pori dan porusitas dengan uji SEM dan analisis ImageJ. Daya serap dengan Swelling test. Hasil: Scaffold kitosan dan kitosan-RGD memiliki 225 dan 237 buah pori, berukuran 176.4mm dan 178.3mm, porusitas sebesar 12.8 dan 12.9 , jarak antar pori sebesar 94.7mm dan 93.3mm, serta daya serap sebesar 10.5mgH2O/mgScaffold dan 19.2mgH2O/mgScaffold. Kesimpulan: Sifat arsitektural scaffold membran kitosan RGD cangkang kepiting cenderung lebih baik.

Introduction Crab Shell Chitosan and Chitosan RGD membrane Scaffolds have been made by BATAN, for tissue engineering in oral cavity. Architectural properties of both scaffolds have never been analyzed. Purpose To analyze the architectural properties of both scaffolds. Methods Pore amount, pore size, interpore distance and porosity using SEM test with ImageJ analysis. Water absorption using swelling test. Results Chitosan and Chitosan RGD scaffolds have 225 and 237 pores, 176.4mm and 178.3mm sized pore, porosity of 12.8 and 12.9 , interpore distance of 94.7mm and 93.3mm, with water absorption of 10.5mgH2O mgScaffold dan 19.2mgH2O mgScaffold. Conclusions Crab shell chitosan RGD membrane scaffold has better architectural properties. "
