Tulisan ini membahas The Martian (2011), novel fiksi ilmiah keras karya Andy Weir sebagai sebuah alegori supremasi serta superioritas bangsa Amerika. Argumen ini dapat dilihat dengan analisis mendalam pada keakuratan representasi teknologi dan ilmu pengetahuan. Dalam analisisnya, tesis ini mengaplikasikan konsep alegori berdasarkan pemahaman dari Walter Benjamin ditambah dengan konsep fiksi ilmiah keras. Dapat disimpulkan keakuratan dan sisi realisitis ilmu pengetahuan dan teknologi merupakan alegori dari dua nilai spesifik bangsa Amerika yaitu supremasi dan superioritas mereka, walaupun di saat bersamaan nilai-nilai bangsa puritan beserta supremasi dan superioritas tersebut bisa juga dilihat sebagai mitos-mitos yang dipercaya oleh bangsa Amerika.

This article discusses The Martian (2011), a hard science fiction written by Andy Weir, as an allegory of Americans’ supremacy and the superiority. This argument is obtained by conducting an analysis on the representations of the technology and science in the novel. In the analysis, this thesis uses theory of allegory by Walter Benjamin and added with the theory of characterization by Rimmmon and Keenan. From that, this thesis concludes that the the representations of the accurate or nearly-accurate technology and science in the novel are the allegory of the supremacy and superiority of America. This thesis also argues that American superioty through its accurate techonology and science are no more that just myth of American nation believed.

"ABSTRAKPenelitian ini berfokus pada bagaimana hubungan negatif antara Amerika Serikat dan Korea Utara tercermin melalui film The Interview 2014 dan membahas fakta bahwa Amerika Serikat menganggap Korea Utara sebagai negara yang lebih inferior. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengidentifikasi supremasi Amerika dalam film tersebut. Film yang menceritakan tentang pembunuhan pemimpin Korea Utara, Kim Jung Un, ini menjadi isu kontroversial karena adanya tanggapan balas dendam pemerintah Korea Utara yang kuat bahkan sebelum film diluncurkan secara resmi. Berdasarkan theory of superiority in humor, penelitian ini menggunakan analisis tekstual berdasarkan keunggulan Amerika di dalam humor tersembunyi. Sebenarnya, dengan mengejek Korea Utara melalui berbagai aspek seperti bahasa, budaya, dan seksualitas, Amerika Serikat membuktikan keistimewaannya sendiri. Dengan data yang didapat melalui dialog masing-masing karakter di film dan setting visual, sutradara film ini menekankan supremasi Amerika dengan mengejek kelemahan Korea Utara.

This research focuses on how the negative relationship between the United States and North Korea reflects through the film, The Interview 2014 , and examines the facts that the United States as superior is actuallylooking down North Korea as inferior. The purpose of the research is to identify America 39 s supremacy in the movie. The film, which is about the assassination of North Korea rsquo s current leader, Kim Jung Un, became a controversial issue with North Korea government rsquo s strong retaliatory response even before the film is officially released. Based on the theory of superiority in humor, this research uses textual analysis based on the hidden superiority of America in humor. Indeed, by mocking North Korea in various ways, such as the aspect of language, culture, and sexuality, the United States proves to the world its own superiority. With the data obtained through the dialogue of each character in the film, visual settings, the director of this film emphasizes the American supremacy by mocking the weaknesses of North Korea. "
