ABSTRACT
Media is one of the main pillars in a democratic system, being an information channel between citizens, political parties and the government, including in the context of elections. But now in a time when the media is developing rapidly with the presence of the internet and the new media, the study of voter behavior in general elections is still limited to 3 main approaches, namely sociological, psychological, and political economic approach; therefore this study aims to examine the effect of several types of media on voter behavior and compare with the influence of sociological and political-economic factors. Using aggregate data research methods from provincial level and Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) analysis techniques, this study applies 32 test models to partially test the influence of media, sociological and political-economic variables, and a combined model to test the effect all variables together. This study found that the effect of the media on voter turnout and vote direction in the 2019 Indonesian legislative elections tends to be weak and no patterns have been found that can explain the behavior of Indonesian voters properly. This study recommends that in the future a similar study can be conducted by using more detailed data in districts level; also broadly to develop public access to Indonesian statistical data to improe the quality of aggregate data researches.
