"Fokus penelitian ini adalah untuk menemukan penerapan karakter “surrealis” dalam Arsitektur Vernakular Indonesia sebagai produk pemikiran bawah sadar berdasarkan definisi yang didefinisikan oleh para pencipta seni dan desainer Gerakan Surealisme pada tahun 1900-an. Dari masa pra hingga pasca masa keemasan gerakan surealisme hingga saat ini, dari pergeseran banyak gaya dan bentuk karya seni, definisi surealisme telah diguncang oleh keputusan bawah sadar, akar dari kesamaan dalam arsitektur vernakular didirikan dalam aspek sosial, budaya, dan topografi suatu keberadaan. Disuntikkan pada karya-karya manusia termasuk keluaran arsitektur, Menariknya Arsitektur Vernakular Indonesia menjadi salah satu arsitektur yang “eksplisit” menampilkan pemikiran pada gayanya. Dipimpin oleh Tongkonan Toraja, tulisan ini akan menganalisis implementasi karakter surealis dalam Arsitektur Vernakular Indonesia dengan menghubungkannya dengan gagasan yang didirikan.

The focus of this study is to find the applications of “surrealist” characters in Indonesian Vernacular Architecture as a product of subconscious thinking based on their definition defined by the Surrealism Movement in the 1900s’ creators of arts and designers. From pre- to post-golden age of surrealism movement until the present times, from the shift of many styles and forms of artworks, the definition of surrealism has founded to be bed rocked by subconscious decisions, the roots of the similarities in vernacular architecture founded in the aspect of social, cultural, and topography of one existence. Injected to the works of human beings including architectural output, Indonesian Vernacular Architecture interestingly being one to “explicitly” show the thinking to the style. Leads by Toraja’s Tongkonan, this writing will analyze the implementation of the surrealist characters form Indonesian Vernacular Architectures by connecting them with the idea founded."

Tugas akhir ini ditulis dengan tujuan untuk mendeskripsikan pengetahuan penulis yang telah didapat selama masa pembelajaran di Arsitektur. Pembelajaran akan kondisi arsitektur vernakular di Indonesia terasa penting untuk diketahui oleh mahasiswa arsitektur. Arsitektur Vernakular merupakan sebuah arsitektur yang berkembang dari kondisi etnik and tradisi, yang dimana dibuat oleh tukang yang berpengalaman dengan menggunakan teknik dan material yang berada di sekitaran dan lingkungan bangunan arsitektural tersebut berasal yang kian menemui proses transformasi. Di beberapa tempat di Indonesia,bangunan vernakular mendekati kepunahan, beberapa terjadi akibat dampak dari bencana alam, transformasi, atau adanya kehadiran keinginan untuk mengembangkan hal-hal yang lain. Isu-isu tersebut menurut penulis terasa sangat menarik untuk di analisa lebih lanjut, berawal dari bagaimana Arsitektur Vernakular tersebut berkembang hingga saat ini dan berbagai penanganan untuk mempertahankannya. Dokumentasi adalah salah satu cara untuk mencegah kepunahan dari Arsitektur Vernakular dan sudah digunakan sejak masa lalu.

This final report is written for the purpose of describing the writer knowledge in which have obtained during this Thesis period. This knowledge is important for students to know the condition of vernacular architecture in Indonesia. Vernacular Architecture is architecture that grew and evolved from folk architecture born of ethnic and community rooted in ethnic traditions, as well as built by builders based on experience, using techniques and materials local as well as is the answer to the environmental setting of the building is and always open to the onset of transformation. In several places in Indonesia, vernacular buildings are nearly extinct, due to natural disasters, transformation, or the presence of other interests. This are the issues which in the writer opinion is quite interesting to analyze, how an original vernacular developed until today and how to preserve its existence. Documentation is one way to preserve the extinction of vernacular architecture and has been developing since ancient.
