Menerjemahkan subtitles pada film merupakan pekerjaan yang rumit karena penerjemah dihadapi dengan peraturan yang membatasi mereka dalam menerjemahkan suara aktor, terlebih jika terdapat culture-specific items atau istilah-istilah yang sarat budaya. Studi ini bertujuan untuk menginvestigasi strategi penerjemahan subtitle yang digunakan di film Sang Kiai atau The Clerics dan mengamati ideologi penerjemahan yang diaplikasikan oleh penerjemah selama proses penerjemahan. Metode penelitian yang diterapkan adalah metode campuran antara kualitatif dan deskriptif. Hasil dari penelitian ini mengemukakan bahwa Retention adalah strategi penerjemahan yang paling banyak digunakan. Akan tetapi, ideologi peneremahan yang dominan adalah domestikasi. Dapat dikatakan bahwa penerjemah berusaha untuk membuat film ini semudah mungkin untuk dipahami pembaca bahasa target dengan membuat peneremahannya setia kepada bahasa target. ......Translating subtitles for movies is a complicated task as the translators are faced with certain restrictions that limit them in translating the actors’ voices, especially if culture-specific items are involved. This study aims to conduct an investigation on the subtitling strategies found in the movie The Clerics or Sang Kiai and later attempt to observe the type of translation ideology employed by the translator during the subtitling. The method applied in conducting this study is a mixed-method between quantitative and descriptive qualitative methods. The study finds that Retention is the most used subtitling strategy. However, the dominant translation ideology found throughout the subtitle is domestication. It can be said that the translator attempted to make this movie as comprehensible as possible for the target audience by making it faithful to them.

A literary text typically contains many cultural elements often presented in a very concise manner to enhance its readability and aesthetic quality. Its translation can be challenging when there is a gap between source culture and target culture. Thus, a translator has to make an ideological choice: either to foreignize or to domesticize. This paper aims to identify and examine the ideology applied by a literary translator when translating culturally-divergent translation units. Bram Stoker’s Dracula and its Indonesian translation by Suwarni were selected as data source due to the novel’s significant number of cultural references unfamiliar to modern Indonesians. Forty units were selected for this paper and classified into several groups. Results show that the translator used various strategies, both foreignizing and domesticizing ones, to translate even similar units, indicating her considerable freedom. Furthermore, the results also show that translation ideology is a flexible concept which can shift throughout a translation project and be represented as a multipoint continuum. Moreover, both foreignization and domestication may take place at different levels, depending on various factors such as presence of information, extent of modification, and relevance of information.

Penelitian ini membahas pengaruh ideologi penerjemahan pada teks terjemahan dalam bahasa Indonesia sebagai bahasa sasaran serta menganalisis bagaimana hasil penerjemahan dengan prosedur penerjemahan yang berorientasi pada bahasa sumber (bahasa Jerman) dan bahasa sasaran (bahasa Indonesia). Penelitian dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode kualitatif melalui studi pustaka dengan korpus data artikel berjudul “Asparagus dari Papua” yang merupakan terjemahan dari teks berbahasa Jerman berjudul Der Spargel aus Neuguinea yang ditulis oleh Wulf Schlefenhoevelpada majalah NADI 2019. Fokus penelitian adalah pembuktian teori kecondongan hasil terjemahan dari Munday (2001) berdasarkan pada klasifikasi prosedur penerjemahan model Vinay dan Darbelnet. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dari keseluruhan kalimat yang ada dalam artikel, terdapat 10 kalimat yang mengalami kesalahan penerjemahan, 8 di antaranya melalui penerjemahan langsung dan dua secara tidak langsung. Penerjemahan dengan ideologi foreignisasi atau prosedur langsung lebih berisiko mengalami kesalahan penerjemahan dengan dua alasan utama, yakni penerjemah yang terlalu berpegang pada teks sumber dan kurangnya pemahaman terhadap konteks dan latar belakang budaya bahasa sasaran. ......This study discusses the ideology of translation’s influence on the translated text in the target language and analyzes how the translation results with translation procedures oriented to the source and target languages. The research was conducted using a qualitative method through a literature study with a corpus of data on articles with the title "Asparagus from Papua" which is a translation of the German text Der Spargel aus Neuguinea written by Wulf Schlefenhoevel in the 2019 NADI magazine. The focus of the research is to prove Munday's theory of translation result bias (2001) based on the classification of the translation procedure of the Vinay and Darbelnet models. The results showed there were 10 sentences with mistranslation, 8 of them through direct translation and two through indirect translation. Translation with foreignization ideology or direct procedures is more at risk of mistranslation for two main reasons, namely the translator who is too attached to the source text and the lack of understanding of the target languages’ context and cultural background.

Tesis ini menyuguhkan terjemahan beranotasi novel The Kaisho. Anotasi dilakukan untuk menjelaskan masalah penerjemahan istilah budaya dan penyelesaiannya. Keunikan novel dari segi budaya dan keinginan untuk memperkenalkan budaya latar TSu menjadi dasar penerjemahan yang menganut ideologi pengasingan, tanpa mengabaikan ideologi pelokalan. Ideologi pelokalan hanya digunakan pada bagian-bagian tertentu untuk mencapai pemahaman pembaca TSa. Metode penerjemahan yang digunakan adalah metode semantis-komunikatif dengan penggunaan berbagai teknik yang mendukung kesepadanan makna dan kewajaran bentuk. Penerjemahan yang melibatkan teks sumber (TSu) yang menghadirkan sejumlah budaya kuat memerlukan upaya dari penerjemah agar tidak terjadi ?penjajahan budaya?. Keterlibatan teks sumber yang menghadirkan sejumlah budaya kuat di dalam penerjemahan ini memerlukan upaya penerjemah untuk menghindari ?penjajahan budaya?. Dalam situasi ini, penerjemah perlu mencondongkan pada lima aspek, (1) pemahaman karakteristik TSu; (2) pemahaman tentang calon pembaca TSa; (3) pemahaman budaya-budaya di dalam TSu dan budaya sasaran; (4) pemahaman makna dalam penyampaian pesan; dan (5) pemahaman bahwa ada perbedaan cara pengungkapan suatu ide pada dua budaya yang berlainan.

This thesis presents an annotated translation of the novel The Kaisho. Annotation is performed to explain the problem and its solution translation of the cultural terms. The uniqueness of the novel in terms of culture and the desire to introduce the cultural background of the source text become a basic of translation that adheres to the ideology of foreignization, without ignoring the localization of ideology. The localization only used on certain parts to achieve the target text reader comprehension. Translation method used is semantic-communicative methods with the use of various techniques that support the equivalence of meaning and reasonableness shape. The involvement of the source text that presents a strong culture in this translation requires some effort of the translator to avoid the ?culturally imperialistic?.In this situstion, translator needs to be leaned on five aspects of understanding, (1) understanding of the characteristics of source text; (2) understanding of the potential reader of the target text; (3) understanding of the cultures in the source text and the target text; (4) understanding of the meaning in the delivery of the message; and (5) an understanding that there are different ways of expressing an idea in two different cultures.;This thesis presents an annotated translation of the novel The Kaisho. Penelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan penerjemahan kata budaya dalam novel Laskar Pelangi ke bahasa Jepang, dalam novel Niji no Shoonentachi. Penelitian ini menggunakan ancangan deskriptif dengan model komparatif. Kata budaya dalam penelitian ini ditentukan berdasarkan klasifikasiyang dikemukakan oleh Newmark. Dalam penelitian ini telah dikumpulkan 186 data dari dua kategori unsur budaya saja, yaitu materi dan ekologi. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan teknik simak, artinya membaca kedua teks itu. Analisis komparatif atas data menggunakan alat kerja berupa kamus baik cetak maupun daring. Sebagai hasilnya, ditemukan terjemahan 161 kata budaya yang sepadan dan 25 tidak sepadan. Strategi yang digunakan oleh penerjemah adalah penerjemahan harfiah, kata umum, penyulihan budaya, kuplet, naturalisasi bahasa Indonesia, penghilangan, deskriptif, naturalisasi bahasa Inggris, dan kalki. Sementara itu, gaya bahasa penerjemah cenderung mengikuti gaya bahasa pengarang atau mempertahankan nilai estetis teks sumber. Dengan begitu, penerjemah menerjemahkan Laskar Pelangi berdasarkan ideologi penerjemahan pengasingan dan telah menghasilkan terjemahan yang berkualitas. ......This research aims to clarify the method and technique of the translation of cultural words in ldquo Laskar Pelangi rdquo into Japanese novel, ldquo Niji no Shoonentachi. rdquo This research uses descriptive approach with comparative models. Cultural words in this study are determined based on the classification proposed by Newmark rsquo s models. In this research 186 data have been collected according to the two cultural categories, namely, material one and ecological one. The data collection is done by comparing Japanese the target language, and Indonesian the source language. This comparative analysis of the data uses work tools such as dictionaries, both prints and online.As a result, there are 161 equivalences and 25 not equivalences found out of the 186 data in the translation. The strategy used by the translator consists of literal translation, using general words, cultural substitution, couplet, naturalization from Indonesian, omission, descriptive, naturalization from English and calque. Meanwhile, style of a translator tends to follow that of literal expression of an author, trying to bring out the aesthetic value of the source language. Following this tendency and attitude, the translator of ldquo Laskar Pelangi rdquo has produced the quality of translation.

Penelitian ini berfokus pada penyesuaian budaya yang terjadi dalam penerjemahan gim novel visual Jepang yang berjudul 9-nine-Kokonotsu Kokonoka Kokonoiro. Gim ini dibuat dan dikembangkan oleh Palette dan diterjemahkan ke dalam bahasa Indonesia oleh grup penerjemah penggemar Hero Soft. Penelitian ini menganalisis prosedur penerjemahan yang diterapkan oleh penerjemah berdasarkan prosedur penerjemahan gim oleh O’Hara dan Mangiron (2006) serta prosedur penerjemahan yang telah dirangkum dan dikembangkan oleh Dewi dan Wijaya (2021) dan mengkaji penyesuaian budaya yang terjadi dalam proses penerjemahan teks sumber (TSu). Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan mengidentifikasi prosedur penerjemahan yang digunakan oleh penerjemah penggemar untuk menghadapi istilah budaya dalam gim novel visual dan mengkaji hubungan antara prosedur yang diterapkan dengan penyesuaian budaya yang terjadi. Berdasarkan berbagai prosedur penerjemahan dan jenis penyesuaian budaya yang ditemukan, peneliti mengambil kesimpulan bahwa ideologi yang diterapkan oleh penerjemah penggemar adalah domestikasi karena terlihat bahwa tujuan penerjemahan adalah mendekatkan gim kepada pemain sebagai audiens melalui penyesuaian banyak unsur budaya sumber dengan unsur budaya yang lebih dikenal dalam bahasa sasaran (BSa). ......This study focuses on the cultural adjustment that occurs in the translation of the Japanese visual novel game 9-nine-Kokonotsu Kokonoka Kokonoiro. The game was created and developed by Palette and translated into Indonesian by Hero Soft, a group consisted of fan translators. This study analyzes the translation procedures applied by translators based on game translation strategies as proposed by O'Hara and Mangiron (2006) as well as translation procedures developed by Dewi and Wijaya (2021), and examines the cultural adjustments that occur in the translation process. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method. This research was conducted by identifying the translation procedures applied by fan translators when dealing with cultural terms in the game, as well as examining the relationship between the procedures applied and the cultural adjustments that occurred. Based on the variety of translation procedures and the types of cultural adjustments found, the researcher concludes that the ideology applied by fan translators is domestication because it appears that the translation’s purpose is to bring the game closer to the audience (i.e. the players) by adapting many source culture elements to more familiar source language (SL) cultural elements.
