"Tesis ini mengangkat tentang retorika dalam dakwah yang dilakukan oleh ulama betawi. Retorika merupakan salah satu metode dalam melakukan persuasi. Retorika yang dikonseptualisasikan dalam tesis ini setidaknya memuat tiga unsur utama yang dimiliki oleh komunikator yaitu ethos (etika dan kredibilitas), pathos (keterikatan emosi), dan logos (logis). Melalui desain kualitatif dengan penjabaran deskriptif, tesis ini menemukan bahwa komunikator memiliki tiga unsur tersebut sehingga mempermudah terjadinya proses persuasi dakwahnya. Karena itu, kentalnya nilai-nilai keislaman pada masyarakat betawi menunjukkan peran penting retorika dalam kegiatan dakwah ulamanya. Dengan demikian, dapat dikatakan jika dakwah ulama betawi lebih banyak menitikberatkan kepada aktivitas keilmuan dan intelektualitas.
This thesis discuss the rhetoric in in Islamic religious teaching (or Da’wah) practiced by the Betawis Islamic religious teachers (or Ulama). Rhetoris is one of the methods of persuasion. The rhetoric concepted inside this thesis concist, at least, three main elements of communicator, they are ethos (ethic and credibility), phatos (emotional attachment), and logos (logic). By qualitative design with descriptive explanation, this thesis find that the communicator (Betawis’ Ulama) posses all those elements which ease the Da’wah persuasion process. Accordingly, the well embedded Islamic values among the Betawi people show the importance of rhetoric in their Ulamas’ Da’wah. Therefore, it can be concluded that the Betawis’ Ulama’s Da’wah prioritized in scientific and intelectual activities."
