"Perubahan dalam struktur sosial dan percepatan mobilitas mendorong hadirnya ruang-ruang yang bersifat transien dan impersonal atau yang disebut sebagai non-place. Arsitektur yang awalnya dihadirkan untuk membentuk keterikatan, kini dihadirkan untuk pengaturan kelancaran sirkulasi dan efisiensi fungsi. Dalam konteks ini, pengkajian mengenai cara pengaturan ruang menjadi penting. Modulasi hadir sebagai prinsip pengaturan non-place. Modulasi memiliki sifat pengaturan yang bersifat fleksibel, berlangsung terus-menerus, dan tidak bergantung pada batasan tetap. Modulasi beroperasi melalui simulasi dengan menyampaikan instruksi eksplisit. Pengaturan modulasi menciptakan keterputusan dan fragmentasi waktu sebagai kondisi yang memungkinkan kelancaran operasi ruang non-place. Studi ini dimulai dengan pendalaman konsep teoritis mengenai modulasi dalam konteks non-place, kemudian melihat bagaimana prinsip-prinsip tersebut beroperasi dalam realitas spasial melalui studi kasus Terminal 3 Bandara Soekarno-Hatta.

Shifts in social structures and the acceleration of mobility have led to the emergence of spaces that are transient and impersonal, commonly referred to as non-places. Architecture which was initially presented to establish attachment, has shifted toward regulating the smooth flow of circulation and functional efficiency. In this context, examining how space is organized becomes increasingly important. Modulation emerges as the controlling principle of non-places. It operates as a flexible and continuous mode of control, operating through simulation by delivering explicit instructions. Modulation as a form of control generates detachment and temporal fragmentation as necessary conditions for the efficient operation of non-places. This study begins with a theoretical exploration of modulation within the context of non-places, followed by an investigation into how these principles manifest in spatial reality through a case study of Terminal 3 at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport."
