Abstrak :
The majority of previous studies found that breastfeeding has an important effect on children rsquo s cognitive score. However, recent studies indicate that the effect of breastfeeding depends on the influence of confounding factors including mother rsquo s socioeconomic status. This study aims to examine the effect of mother rsquo s socioeconomic status in enhancing the effect of breastfeeding to children rsquo s cognitive score. This study uses Indonesia Family Life Survey IFLS 2014 and examines the breastfeeding history of children aged 7 to 14 years old using probit regression model. The results confirm the latest studies where the duration of breastfeeding is significant in affecting children rsquo s cognitive score after it is controlled by mother rsquo s socioeconomic status. The analysis also shows that any exposure to breastfeeding has a positive effect on children rsquo s cognitive score.

Banyak studi sebelumnya yang menemukan bahwa ASI memiliki dampak penting ke kognitif anak. Namun, studi terbaru menunjukkan bahwa efek menyusui bergantung pada pengaruh faktor perancu termasuk status sosial ekonomi ibu. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh status sosial ekonomi ibu dalam meningkatkan efek pemberian ASI terhadap nilai kognitif anak. Studi ini menggunakan data Survei Aspek Kehidupan Rumah Tangga SAKERTI 2014 dan meneliti riwayat ASI dari anak umur 7-14 tahun dengan menggunakan model regresi probit. Hasil studi mendukung studi terbaru dimana durasi ASI signifikan mempengaruhi nilai kognitif anak setelah dikontrol dengan status sosial ekonomi ibu. Hasil analisa juga menunjukkan bahwa setiap paparan ASI memiliki dampak positif pada nilai kognitif anak.
