"Torre David is an incomplete skyscraper in the center of the Venezuelan capital Caracas that has been occupied and reconstructed by local residents. Work on the building, named after the financial investor David Brillembourg, who died in 1993, was suspended during the Venezuelan financial crisis of 1994. After the office tower the third highest in Venezuela had stood empty for many years, it was taken over by the local population in 2008. The occupants made the building their own with improvisation and skill it is a vertical favela, now containing not just housing but also other everyday facilities such as an improvised doctor's office, shops, and more. Photographer Iwan Baan has documented Torre David and its occupants, creating a portrait that captures the contradictions of the place while at the same time revealing urban structures that have emerged dynamically and without planning. Alfredo Brillembourg was born in New York in 1961. In 1993 he founded Urban-Think Tank in Caracas, Venezuela. Since May 2010, Brillembourg holds a chair in architecture and urban design at the Swiss Institute of Technology, Zurich. Hubert Klumpner was born in Salzburg in 1965. In 1998 he joined Alfredo Brillembourg as director of Urban-Think Tank in Caracas. Since 2010, Klumpner holds a chair in architecture and urban design at the Swiss Institute of Technology, Zurich. Iwan Baan, born in Alkmaar, Netherlands, in 1975, is an architecture and documentary photographer."

Hasil analisis menunjukkan variabel yang merupakan faktor risiko antara lain kepadatan vektor (ruko: OR=6,2, squatter: OR=11,2), mobilitas penduduk (ruko: OR=6,2, squatter: OR=6,5), suhu (ruko: OR=6,0, squatter: OR=7,3), curah hujan (ruko: OR=6,5, squatter: OR=8,4), kelembaban (ruko: OR=7,1, squatter: OR=5,7), dan konstruksi rumah (ruko: OR=5,0).

Batam City is the largest contributor to Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) cases in the Riau Islands. One of the biggest challenges in the transmission of dengue fever in Batam City is the existence of shophouses and slum areas that are not intended for use (squatters). The aim of this research was to develop a model for controlling dengue fever in shophouses and squatter environments in Batam City. This research was quantitative analytical research with an ecological study approach. The research period started from August 2022 - May 2023. The population and samples for spatial analysis were 44 sub-districts and for statistical tests were 767 dengue fever with 88 samples. The results of the analysis showed that variables which were risk factors include vector density (shophouses: OR=6,2, squatters: OR=11,2), population mobility (shophouses: OR=6,2, squatters: OR=6,5), temperature (shophouses: OR=6,0, squatters: OR=7,3), rainfall (shophouses: OR=6,5, squatters: OR=8,4), humidity (shophouses: OR=7,1, squatters: OR=5,7), and house construction (shophouses: OR=5,0). The output of this research was the GWR model which showed that the variables Squatters Proportion, Temperature, Vector Density and Population Density had a significant effect on the number of dengue fever cases in Batam City (R2=77.13%). The model for controlling dengue fever that can be implemented are dengue management based on niche, including regional regulations requiring arranging used goods around squatters and empowering school children in eradicating larvae."

This research focuses on changes in slums settlements area the distribution pattern of settlements, and the changes of settlements slums seen from the location of slums from the river settlements, railway and flyover in 2005, 2007 and 2009. This type of research is a research nomotetik with the descriptive analysis method that is used to describe changes in settlements and slums are also using the approach spatial analysis to explain the differences seen in the area of research.
Results of research indicate that the settlement slums in the district of Tanjung Priok in 2005, 2007 and 2009 was dominated by slums settlements. Slum settlements has decreased from 2005, 2007 to 2009, the squatter settlements have increased from 2005 to 2007 and then decreased in 2009. Changes in slums settlements have a pattern of decline and squatter settlements have a pattern that tends not to change or keep. Changes in settlement slums from 2005, 2007 to 2009 seen from the location of slums from the river settlements have tended to avoid changes that river, from the location of the railway line and tend to stay out of the location of the flyover likely to evade. Distribution pattern of settlement in the slums areas of research in 2005, 2007 and 2009 have Cluster Pattern.
