Ranging across literature, theater, history, and the visual arts, this collection of essays by leading scholars in the field explores the range of places where British Romantic-period sociability transpired. The book considers how sociability was shaped by place, by the rooms, buildings, landscapes and seascapes where people gathered to converse, to eat and drink, to work and to find entertainment. At the same time, it is clear that sociability shaped place, both in the deliberate construction and configuration of venues for people to gather, and in the way such gatherings transformed how place was experienced and understood. The essays highlight literary and aesthetic experience but also range through popular entertainment and ordinary forms of labor and leisure

ABSTRAK
Berkembangnya media sosial di tengah kehidupan masyarakat tidak terlepas dari bagaimana kapitalisme sebagai sebuah sistem ekonomi menciptakan kondisi di mana banyak pemilik modal saling bersaing dalam menciptakan produk-produk baru, khususnya dalam bidang teknologi media sosial. Media sosial berkembang dengan harapan akan menciptakan kondisi komunikasi tanpa batas. Akan tetapi dengan segala kemudahan yang dihadirkan, media sosial juga menghadirkan masalahnya tersendiri. Melalui metode refleksi kritis dan metode pengetahuan melalui pengenalan dan deskripsi atau knowledge by acquaintance and description, penulis mencoba untuk melihat adanya masalah dalam masyarakat pengguna media sosial melalui pemikiran Masyarakat Spectacle Guy Debord. Media sosial yang sedari awal diharapkan dapat membuat masyarakat dapat mengakses, menciptakan dan menyebarkan konten tanpa batas ruang dan waktu justru dihadapkan pada permasalahan spectacle. Sebuah konsep hasil buah pemikiran Guy Debord dalam usahanya untuk menjelaskan proses ekonomi kapitalistik di era media konvensional (televisi, cetak dan radio) yang justru membuat masyarakat terlepas dari realita kehidupannya beserta dengan segala pengalamannya. Gejala dari spectacle ini pun muncul di dalam masyarakat pengguna media sosial, dengan segala perkembangannya yang semakin bisa membaca keinginan pasar membuat masyarakat kini tidak lagi menjalankan hidupnya secara otentik.
ABSTRACT
The development of social media in the midst of people's lives is inseparable from how capitalism as an economic system creates conditions in which many owners of capital compete with each other in creating new products, especially in the field of social media technology. Social media develops with the hope that it will create conditions for seamless communication. However, with all the conveniences that are presented, social media also presents its own problems. Through the method of critical reflection and the method of knowledge through introduction and description or knowledge by acquaintance and description, the author tries to see if there are any problems in the social media user community through Guy Debord's Spectacle Society thinking. Social media, which from the beginning was expected to enable the public to access, create and distribute content without boundaries of space and time, was actually faced with the problem of spectacle. A fruit fruit concept Guy Debord's thoughts in his attempt to explain the process of the capitalistic economy in the era of conventional media (television, print and radio) which actually makes people detached from the reality of their lives along with all their experiences. Symptoms of This spectacle also appears in the community of social media users, with all its developments which are increasingly able to read market desires, making people no longer live their lives authentically.

Kampung Pelangi adalah salah satu dari trend mendandani kampung di tengah kota untuk dipamerkan sekaligus meningkatkan taraf hidup dan membantu masyarakat mengembangkan potensi pada kampung tersebut. Bagian ruang publik dari Kampung di cat warna warni untuk mengundang wisatawan datang dan berfoto disana, menyebabkan kampung kota menjadi suatu objek tontonan (spectacle) bagi kalayak umum. Spectacle berarti situasi unik, menarik atau tidak biasa yang menarik perhatian banyak orang. Di dalam spectacle tercipta dua realitas dalam ruang/chora, yang dipertontonkan, dan realitas yang ingin disembunyikan dibaliknya. Aktor warga kampung dan pemerintah berlaga di dalam setting warna-warni kampung dan khalayak umum memberikan nilai terhadap spectacle melalui media. Riset ini mendiskusikan sejauh mana makna spectacle yang di ciptakan pada renovasi Kampung Pelangi di Semarang. Metode penelitian didapatkan dengan mengkonstruksikan pemahaman mengenai spectacle dan proses pembentukan ruang/chora, kemudian mencari makna dari ruang-ruang yang diciptakan melalui image yang tersebar di media maupun yang didapatkan ketika penelitian di tempat. Makna yang muncul dari image Kampung Pelangi, hanya sekedar kosmetik di luar saja sehingga chora yang tercipta tidak selaras dengan kebutuhan masyarakat. Hal ini menyebabkan spectacle Kampung Pelangi hanya bertahan selama beberapa tahun saja setelah aktor pemerintah dan media menarik diri. ......Kampung Pelangi is one of the trends of dressing up a village in the middle of the city to be exhibited while improving living standards and helping people develop the potential of the village. Part of the public space of the village is painted in colorful colors to invite tourists to come and take pictures there, causing the urban village to become a spectacle object for the general public. A spectacle means a unique, interesting, or unusual situation that attracts the attention of many people. In the spectacle, there are two realities in space/chora, which are displayed, and the reality that you want to hide behind them. Villagers and government actors competed in colorful village settings and the general public gave value to the spectacle through the media. This research discusses the extent to which the meaning of the spectacle was created in the renovation of Kampung Pelangi in Semarang. The research method is obtained by constructing an understanding of the spectacle and the process of forming space/chora, then looking for meaning from the spaces created through images spread in the media or those obtained during on-site research. The meaning that emerges from the image of Kampung Pelangi is only cosmetic on the outside so the chora that is created is not in harmony with the needs of the community. This caused the Kampung Pelangi spectacle to only last for a few years after the government and media actors withdrew.

Budaya masyarakat tontonan yang berkembang di masyarakat perkotaan mengakibatkan terjadinya fenomena komodifikasi tontonan. Hal ini turut berdampak pada salah satu kegiatan konsumsi yaitu berbelanja. Kebutuhan akan ruang ritel, sebagai satu jenis space of consumption, tidak lagi sekadar menjadi ruang untuk menampilkan komoditas berupa barang, tetapi juga perlu memenuhi fungsi sebagai ruang yang menyajikan tontonan demi meningkatkan kualitas pengalaman berbelanja. Jika terjadi pergeseran pada strategi desain ruang ritel, lantas bagaimana kecenderungan pergeseran strategi desain ritel tersebut mengacu pada teori ritel klasik? Penelitian ini mencoba menguak strategi desain ruang ritel menggunakan analogi pertunjukan teater untuk menghadirkan alternatif desain yang merespon komodifikasi tontonan. Retail Theater adalah istilah yang digunakan untuk menjelaskan analogi tersebut. Adanya pergeseran strategi desain ruang ritel klasik ke retail theater terbukti melalui analisis berdasarkan studi literatur dan observasi partisipatif terhadap strategi desain ruang yang diterapkan peritel pada toko ritel The Goods Dept Pacific Place. ...... The culture of society of spectacle which develops in urban communities led to the phenomenon of commodification of spectacle. It also brings impact on consumption as one kind of shopping activity. The function of retail space, as a kind of space of consumption, no longer present just to be a space to display the commodity in the form of goods, but also need to fulfill the function to provide spectacles in order to improve the quality of shopping experience. If there are some changes in the strategy of retail space design, then how is the tendency of the shifting strategy of retail space design refers to the classical theory of retail design? This research attempts to uncover retail space design strategy by using theatrical analogy to present alternative design which responds the phenomenon of commodification of the spectacle. Retail Theater is a term used to explain the analogy. The shift in retail space design strategy from the classic theory to retail theater proved through analysis based on literature study and partisipative observation of the design space strategy applied in The Goods Dept at Pacific Place.
