ABSTRACT
The aim of the study was to determine the relationship between vitamin A and retinol levels with anemia status in two groups of three trimester pregnant women, namely the anemic and non anemic. This was a cross-sectional study conducted in ten sub-district Government Health Centre in East Jakarta and which part of a large research department of Nutrition Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia, entitled "The Role of Nutrition, Maternal Factors and Maternal Health Services with the Composition of the Microbiota in Third Trimester Maternal and Infant Birth Weight : The study cohort in Jakarta". Data was collected from April untill May 2015. A total of 113 third trimester pregnant women with gestational age above 32 weeks (35.0 ± 1.8) were participated in research after met the study criterions. They were divided into two groups based on the levels of hemoglobin which were anemic (Hb<11g /dL) and non anemic(Hb≥ 11g / dL), and continue with anthropometric examination, interview and Hb measurement. The data collected included demographic characteristics, anthropometry, food intake (macronutrients and micronutrients), hemoglobin, and serum retinol. The age range of the subjects in this study was 19-44 years old. Most subjects (59.6%) had secondary education (graduated from high school or high school). The mean gestational age of the subjects was 34.32 ± 1.86 weeks in anemic group and 35.18 ± 1.73 weeks in non anemic. Mean of protein intake in both groups are still under RDA which < 77g/day. The mean of fat intake in anemic group was higher than non-anemic group (p=0.04). Iron intake in both groups are in accordance with the RDA which 40mg/day (p=0.82). Folate intake was lower in anemia group than non-anemic group (p=0.16). There was no difference between vitamin B12 intake in both group andwere in accordance with RDA. The median of vitamin A intake in non-anemic group was higher than non-anemic group (p = 0.52). The mean retinol serum levels in anemic group was 1.40 ± 0.50 and non-anemic group was 1.45 ± 0.44. (P = 0.55). No significant results obtained from multivariate analysis in order to control the confounders., The aim of the study was to determine the relationship between vitamin A and retinol levels with anemia status in two groups of three trimester pregnant women, namely the anemic and non anemic.

Background: Tuberculosis (TB) remains a threat for community health across the globe including Indonesia. The incidence of pulmonary TB in Bekasi, Indonesia in 2014 is 1,395/2,510,951 people and there were 3.099 cases in 2014. Micronutrient deficiency such as retinol can be caused by loss of appetite and disorder in intestinal absorption which could lead to immunosuppressive condition that increased the risk of TB. This study aims to find the correlation between serum retinol level and semi-quantitative bacterial load in new case of pulmonary TB at a community health center.
Methods: This cross-sectional study involved 135 subjects collected through cluster consecutive sampling in a primary health care in Bekasi, Indonesia. The study included new pulmonary TB cases which had no history of taking any anti-TB drugs.
Results: The median age of the subjects was 35.5 years old (IQR 18-65) and most of subjects were males (62.3%), smokers (44.9%), had low body mass index (BMI) (56.5%), had hypoalbuminemia (17.4%), serum retinol deficient (40.6%), presented with cavity lesion (30.4%) and presented with scanty and +1 semi-quantitative bacterial load (10.1% and 39.1%, respectively). There was no significant correlation between serum retinol level and semi-quantitative bacterial load. However, there were significant correlations between serum albumin level, BMI and presence of cavity lesion and semi-quantitative bacterial load (p=0.003, p=0.014, and p=0.011, respectively).
Conclusion: There was no correlation between serum retinol level and semi-quantitative bacterial load in new cases of pulmonary TB patients. There were significant correlations between serum albumin level, BMI and presence of cavity lesion and semi-quantitative bacterial load.

Background: Acne vulgaris AV is a chronic inflammation of pilosebaceus that is primarily found in adolescents and young adults. The role of diet in the pathogenesis of AV continues to be a debate. One of micronutrients alleged in the pathogenesis of AV is vitamin A or retinol.
Objective: This study aims to know the levels of serum retinol and its correlation with the degree of severity of the AV, as well as the patient 39 s intake of vitamin A.
Method: This cross sectional study included 20 subjects divided into mild, moderate, and severe groups based on Lehman rsquo s classification. Serum retinol levels measured using high performance liquid chromatography, whereas the intake of vitamin A was assessed by semiquantitative food frequency questionnaire method.
Results: The mean serum retinol levels of mild, moderate, and severe groups were respectively 0.962 SD 0.145 mol L, 0.695 SD 0.054 mol L, and 0.613 SD 0.125 mol L. There was significant correlation between serum retinol levels with the degree of severity of the AV r 0.798, p 0.000. The mean intake of vitamin A per day of mild, moderate, and severe groups were respectively 476.21 SD 221.32 g, 823.71 SD 221.32 g, and 780.99 SD 530.45 g.
Conclusion: Levels of serum retinol found lower on the moderate and severe groups. The results has proven that the lower the levels of serum retinol, the more severe the degree of severity of the AV. There was no difference in vitamin A intake among the three groups.
