"Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat bagaimana ibu tunggal direpresentasikan dalam film Mother (2020). Penulis menggunakan teori representasi Stuart Hall (1997) sebagai konsep dasar dan pendekatan analisis film melalui karakterisasi tokoh oleh Petrie dan Boggs (2008) serta mise-en-scène oleh Monaco (2000) dalam menganalisis data. Dari hasil analisis, ditemukan tokoh ibu tunggal yang tidak sesuai dengan norma ryousai kenbo (istri yang baik dan ibu yang bijaksana). Ibu tunggal di dalam film ini tidak mengurus anaknya, bergantung finansial pada anaknya, menyuruh anaknya membunuh kakek dan neneknya, serta berpesta hingga pagi hari. Film Mother dapat dilihat sebagai penggambaran sikap yang tidak sesuai dengan norma ryousai kenbo. Film ini menunjukkan bahwa meskipun norma ryousai kenbo menjadi standar ibu ideal di Jepang, bukan berarti semua ibu hidup sesuai dengan norma tersebut. Dalam bentuknya yang paling ekstrim, film Mother menggambarkan bahwa ibu adalah manusia biasa yang dapat hidup tidak sesuai dengan norma ibu ideal yang berlaku dalam masyarakat

This study aims to see how single mothers are represented in the film Mother (2020). The author uses the representation theory of Stuart Hall (1997) as the basic concept and approach to film analysis through characterization of characters by Petrie and Boggs (2008) and mise-en-scène by Monaco (2000) in analyzing the data. From the results of the analysis, it was found that the single mother character was not in accordance with the norms of ryousai kenbo wich are good wife and wise mother. The single mother in this film does not take care of her child, relies financially on her child, orders her son to kill his grandparents, and party until the morning. The film Mother (2020) can be seen as a depiction of attitudes that do not conform to the norms of ryousai kenbo. The film shows that even though the norm of ryousai kenbo is the standard of ideal motherhood in Japan, it doesn't mean that all mothers live according VI to it. In its most extreme form, the film depicts that mothers are ordinary people who might live not according to the ideal mother norms that apply in society."

"Konsep ibu ideal di Jepang yang disebut ryousai kenbo (istri yang baik, ibu yang bijak) direproduksi pada masa pasca-perang dengan nama sengyou shufu (ibu rumah tangga penuh waktu) dan kyouiku mama (ibu pendidikan). Krisis ekonomi pada tahun 90an di Jepang menyebabkan tergoncangnya nilai-nilai yang terinternalisasi di masyarakat, termasuk di dalamnya nilai-nilai standar ibu ideal. Setelah masa lost decade, masyarakat Jepang mulai mempertanyakan nilai-nilai ibu ideal tersebut. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui bagaimana tokoh-tokoh ibu di dalam novel Kokuhaku ini dikonstruksikan. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif analisis. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah bahwa ketiga tokoh ibu memiliki kesamaan yaitu telah berusaha untuk dapat memenuhi nilai-nilai standar ibu ideal di masyarakat namun berakhir gagal memenuhi nilai-nilai standar ibu ideal. Novel Kokuhaku yang terbit pada tahun 2008 ini menyajikan kritik terhadap internalisasi nilai-nilai ibu ideal dalam masyarakat Jepang.

The concept of ideal mother in Japan called ryousai kenbo (good wife, wise mother) was reproduced in the post-war era with the name sengyou shufu (full-time housewife) and kyouiku mama (education mother). The economic crisis in the 90s in Japan had shaken the internalized values in society, including the ideal mothers values. After the lost decade era, Japanese people began to question the values of the ideal mother.

The purpose of this research is to find out how the characters of the mother in Kokuhaku novel were constructed. The research method used is analysis descriptive. The result of this research has shown that the three characters of the mother in the novel have some things in common, they tried to fulfill the ideal mothers standard values in society but ended up failing in fulfilling the ideal mothers standard values. The Kokuhaku novel published in 2008 presents a critique of the internalization of the ideal mothers values in Japanese society."
