Tengger youths participate actively in every traditional ritual. After the legalization of religion, most of the Tenggerese finally agreed to write down Hinduism as their religion. Today, the Tenggerese community is not only filled with Hindus but also Muslims and Christians. The religious diversity possessed by the Tenggerese people now does not make traditional rituals abandoned, but both religion and custom are undergoing negotiations. This thesis discusses the negotiations carried out by the Tenggerese youth against their customs and religion. Tengger youths can carry out traditional rituals as well as their religious activities in tandem and do not interfere with each other. The reading of prayers from various religions that exist in the Tengger community in every traditional ritual is one of the efforts to negotiate between custom and religion. Tolerance between religious adherents is also very high. The Tenggerese work together to help each other when there are religious ceremonies to be performed. Tourism is one of the faktors that influence the course of negotiations that occur between traditional and religious rituals by the Tenggerese youth. This study uses ethnographic methods and data obtained through virtual interviews supported by a study of various literatures that complement the data requirements needed. The results of this study were obtained by comparing the behavior of the Tenggerese youth with the concept of negotiation proposed by several figures such as David Harnish.
