Salah satu realitas yang tidak bisa terbantahkan saat ini ialah adanya berbagai macam agama. Hampir setiap kota dan negara di dunia saat ini dihuni oleh masyarakat dari berbagai agama. Kehidupan multiagama itu seringkali menimbulkan pergesekan dan konflik. Sebagai negara plural berdasarkan agama, Indonesia juga tak luput dari kondisi semacam itu. Berbagai kekerasan dan kebringasan antarpemeluk agama telah terjadi di negeri ini. Konflik horisontal antarumat beragama ini juga merusak sendi-sendi persatuan dan kesatuan nasional. Al-Qur'an sebagai sumber utama ajaran agama Islam diyakini oleh para pemeluknya memiliki petunjuk kehidupan yang sesuai untuk setiap tempat dan waktu. Ia laksana gudang yang tersimpan di dalamnya mutiara dan permata. Namun tidak setiap orang dapat memasuki gudang tersebut. Tafsir merupakan kunci guna membuka pintu gudang mutiara dan permata itu. Salah seorang putra terbaik bangsa ini, yaitu Hamka, telah melahirkan karya monumentalnya berupa Tafsir al-Azhar. Melalui kitab tafsir inilah kita ingin mengetahui wawasan al-Qur'an, yang diinterpretasikan oleh Hamka, tentang bagaimana seharusnya toleransi agama bisa dibangun di tengah keragaman komunitas umat beragama itu. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan tematik atas Tafsir al-Azhar karya Hamka, ditemukan bahwa toleransi agama tidak hanya menyangkut bidang muamalah antarpemeluk agama, namun juga menyangkut segi keimanan (teologis). Di bidang keimanan, Hamka memberikan ruang kebebasan beragama, mengakui adanya jalan-jalan keselamatan bagi kaum beriman, dan memberi tempat khusus bagi golongan Ahli Kitab. Sedang di bidang muamalah, Hamka menganjurkan suatu kehidupan harmoni penuh kedamaian antarumat beragama, membolehkan pernikahan antara seorang pria Muslim dengan wanita yang baik dari golongan Ahli Kitab, dan mengharuskan umat Islam untuk ikut memelihara dan melindungi rumah-rumah suci dan tempat-tempat peribadatan agama lain dari tindakan destruktif. Namun, di sisi lain Hamka melarang adanya persahabatan akrab dan persekutuan antara kaum Muslim dengan umat beragama lain.
Religious Tolerance in Al-Qur'an Thematic Method on Tafsir al-Azhar by HamkaThe presence of various religions is one of today's facts that unarguable. Almost every city and country in the world had been inhabited by multi religious communities in recent time. The multi-religious life often causes friction and conflict. Indonesia, as a plural state based on religions, could not avoid from the condition. Violence and wildness between religious communities happened in the country. The horizontal conflicts between religious communities also damaged pillars of national unity and union. Al-Qur'an as a prime source of Islamic teachings is claimed by its followers contained life guidance that adapts to anywhere and everywhere. It is like a depot saves pearls and jewels. However, not everybody could come in. Tafsir is a key to open the depot's door where pearls and jewels kept in. One of the best sons of the country, Hamka, has produced his monumental book, namely Tafsir al-Azhar. To look through the tafsir we wish to know Quranic conception, interpreted by Hamka, on how religious tolerance should be built among various religious communities. After having examined Hamka's Tafsir al-Azhar by thematic method, we found that religious tolerance involved muamalah or fellowship aspects, as well as theological or faith aspects. In theological aspects Hamka allows space for freedom to have religion, admits sorts of salvation paths for religious believers, and gives a special place for Ahli Kitab. In muamalah or fellowship aspects Hamka suggests a harmony life peacefully between religious communities, permits marriage between a Moslem man and a woman of Ahli Kitab, and requires Muslim people to protect and defend holly houses and places of worship of other religions from destructive action. Even though, Hamka does prohibits a close friendship and association between Muslim people and other religious communities.

ABSTRACT
Dalam beberapa tahun belakangan, sikap yang mengarah pada intoleransi beragama pada guru di Indonesia cenderung meningkat. Studi-studi sebelumnya hanya menjadikan faktor ekonomi dan tingkat pendidikan sebagai faktor utama yang dapat membentuk sikap toleransi maupun intoleransi beragama dalam diri individu. Berbeda dengan studi-studi sebelumnya, argumentasi dalam tulisan ini adalah jaringan sosial dan lingkungan keluarga sebagai faktor lain yang juga dapat berperan dalam membentuk sikap toleransi-intoleransi beragama pada guru. Studi ini secara khusus menggambarkan sikap toleransi-intoleransi beragama pada guru di Kota Tangerang dan faktor yang melatarbelakangi sikap tersebut. Studi ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui wawancara mendalam.
ABSTRACT
In recent decades, teachers attitudes that lead to religious intolerance tended to be increased in Indonesia. Previous studies show that the economic factor and the level of education are the main factors that can shape religious tolerance or intolerance attitudes. In contrast with the previous studies, the argumentation on this paper are social network and family environment as another factors those play important roles in shaping religious tolerance intolerance attitudes of teachers. This study specifically illustrates the case of teachers religious tolerance intolerance attitudes in Tangerang City and the factors that shaping their attitude. This study uses qualitative method with the data collection conducted through in depth interview.

Selama bertahun-tahun, toleransi beragama di antara kelompok agama telah menjadi masalah sosiopolitik kritis di Indonesia dan di seluruh dunia. Sampai saat ini, belum ada penelitian yang menyelidiki mekanisme psikologis yang mungkin mendasari munculnya toleransi pada orang beragama. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menyelidiki apakah peran kerendahan hati intelektual dan fleksibilitas kognitif dalam memprediksi hubungan antara religiusitas dan toleransi beragama tergantung pada tingkat agresivitas. Kami menggunakan analisis mediasi atas data religiusitas, kerendahan hati intelektual, fleksibilitas kognitif, dan agresivitas dari 226 mahasiswa Muslim Indonesia untuk menguji prediksi kami. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kerendahan hati intelektual dan fleksibilitas kognitif secara signifikan memediasi pengaruh religiusitas dalam meningkatkan toleransi beragama. Seperti yang diperkirakan, kerendahan hati intelektual adalah mediator yang lebih kuat pada orang-orang beragama yang memiliki tingkat agresivitas yang tinggi, sedangkan fleksibilitas kognitif adalah mediator yang lebih kuat pada orang-orang beragama dengan tingkat agresivitas yang rendah. Oleh karena itu, tingkat agresivitas orang beragama menentukan apakah kerendahan hati intelektual atau fleksibilitas kognitif akan menjadi faktor yang efektif dalam meningkatkan toleransi beragama. Temuan kami menunjukkan pentingnya mengembangkan kerendahan hati intelektual dan fleksibilitas kognitif untuk mempromosikan perilaku toleran di antara umat beragama.
ABSTRACT
Over the years, religious tolerance between religious groups has become a critical sociopolitical problem in Indonesia and throughout the world. To date, there has been no study that has investigated psychological mechanism which might underlie the emergence of tolerance in religious people. The purpose of this study is to investigate whether the roles of intellectual humility and cognitive flexibility in predicting the relationship between religiosity and religious tolerance are dependent on the levels of aggressiveness. We employed mediation analyses over data of religiosity, intellectual humility, cognitive flexibility, and aggressiveness from 226 Indonesian-Moslem students to test our predictions. The results showed that intellectual humility and cognitive flexibility significantly mediated the influence of religiosity in increasing religious tolerance. As predicted, intellectual humility is a stronger mediator in religious people who possess high level of aggressiveness, while cognitive flexibility is a stronger mediator in religious people with low level of aggressiveness. Hence, the level of aggressiveness of a religious person determines whether intellectual humility or cognitive flexibility would be an effective factor in increasing his/her religious tolerance. Our findings suggest the importance of developing intellectual humility and cognitive flexibility to promote tolerant behavior among religious people.
