"In this analysis of the genealogy of western capitalist 'development', The Political Economy of Desire departs from the common position that development and underdevelopment are conceptual outcomes of the Imperialist era. Instead, it positions the genealogy of development within early Christian writings in which the western theological concepts of sin, salvation, and redemption are expounded. Linking the writings of early theologians, such as Augustine and Anselm, to the processes of modern identity formation - of which phenomena such as the West, the First World, the Rule of Law and the individual subject and his or her freedoms are but a part - the concept of development is thus traced to a particularly Christian dynamic. As such, the promise of development is considered as analogous to the way in which the Word of God was used to call Christianity into being, with the promise of salvation."--BOOK JACKET.

The Postcolonial Unconscious is a major attempt to reconstruct the whole field of postcolonial studies. In this magisterial and, at times, polemical study, Neil Lazarus argues that the key critical concepts that form the very foundation of the field need to be re-assessed and questioned. Drawing on a vast range of literary sources, Lazarus investigates works and authors from Latin America and the Caribbean, Africa and the Arab world, South, Southeast and East Asia, to reconsider them from a postcolonial perspective. Legendarium J.R.R. Tolkien tetap menjadi karya fiksi imajinatif yang masih bertahan karena karya tersebut dapat mengeksekusi tema-tema universal, seperti cinta dan nostalgia, dengan penuh nuansa. Meskipun diskusi dari komunitas Tolkien dan akademisi telah mengupas tuntas nuansa tersebut, masih banyak yang dapat dikatakan mengenai aspek pasca-kolonial dari sejarah Dunia Tengah. Makalah ini menyelidiki cara-cara di mana Sauron mewarisi cita-cita kolonial tuannya, Morgoth, dan membangun hegemoni dengan menggunakan Cincin Utama selama Zaman Kedua seperti yang diceritakan dalam The Silmarillion (1977). While discussions from both the fan community and academia have thoroughly examined those nuances, much can still be said regarding the post-colonial aspect of Middle-earth’s history. This paper investigates the ways in which Sauron inherited the colonial ideals of his master, Morgoth, and established a hegemony by using the One Ring during the Second Age as told in The Silmarillion (1977). While it was mostly edited and pieced together by Christopher Tolkien, The Silmarillion covers the entirety of the Legendarium, including the creation of the One Ring and lesser rings of power. By identifying and analyzing the phenomena of political hegemony within the text, this paper argues that Sauron sought to dominate Middle-earth by producing post-colonial realities with the power of the One Ring.

Pasca Perang Dunia II, banyak negara yang sebelumnya mengalami penjajahan mendapatkan kemerdekaan. Tulisan ini mencoba melihat bagaimana kemudian proses yang terjadi pada negara-negara yang baru merdeka tersebut, yang kemudian dikenal dengan proses nation-formation. Berangkat dari kritik postmodern terhadap ilmu Hubungan Internasional terkait konsep nation state sebagai sesuatu yang given, tulisan ini menggunakan pendekatan postcolonialism dalam melihat proses nation-formation di negara yang baru merdeka. Negara yang akan dibahas dalam tulisan ini adalah Indonesia dengan unit analisis Sukarno. Dalam analisis akan digunakan konsep postcolonial anxiety dari Sankaran Khrisna untuk memahami faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi Sukarno dalam proses di atas.

After the World War II, there are many countries that previously experienced colonialism that gained their independence. This writing attempts to see how the process occurred in those newly independent countries, that known as process of nation formation. Starts from postmodern criticsm to International Relations study especially the concept of nation-state, this writing uses postcolonialism approach in analyzing the nation-formation process. The country that will be analyzed in this writing is Indonesia, with Sukarno as the unit of analysis. Sankaran Khrisna?s postcolonial anxiety will be used to understand what factors that influenced Sukarno in the process explained earlier.

Penelitian ini menganalisis fenomena McDonaldisasi sebagai praktik pascakolonialisme dengan menggunakan perspektif pascakolonialisme untuk memahami ketidasesuaian antara dimensi normatif dan empiris sistem tersebut. Penulis mengangkat hipotesis bahwa McDonaldisasi adalah produk identitas dan budaya Barat yang menjadi bagian dari proyek rasionalisasi masyarakat. George Ritzer, seorang sosilog Amerika Serikat, berpendapat bahwa McDonaldisasi merupakan fenomena yang menunjukkan nilai-nilai efisien, terprediksi, terkalkulasi, dan kontrol yang menjadi identitk dengan sistem rantai makanan cepat saji. Implikasi dari penerapan sistem McDonaldisasi terlihat tidak rasional, terutama dalam konteks negara-negara ASEAN-5 yang mengadaptasi sistem tersebut. Penulis menggunakan perspektif pascakolonialisme untuk menganalisis kesenjangan antara pandangan normatif McDonaldisasi dan pengalaman empiris negara-negara ASEAN-5. Dalam perspektif pascakolonialisme, McDonaldisasi dipandang sebagai salah satu bentuk praktik pascakolonial dalam tatanan sistem global. Sistem ini mencerminkan dominasi ideologi Barat dan menciptakan imajinasi rasional bagi negara-negara ASEAN-5, namun upaya adaptasi sistem McDonaldisasi tersebut berimplikasi pada hasil yang irasional dan justru menimbulkan variasi masalah baru di sektor perekonomian. Perspektif pascakolonialisme mampu mengungkapkan praktik-praktik pascakolonial dalam adaptasi sistem McDonaldisasi oleh negara-negara ASEAN-5. ......This research analyzes the phenomenon of McDonaldization as a postcolonial practice using a postcolonial perspective to understand the mismatch berween the normative and empirical dimensions of the system. The author hyphothesizes that McDonaldization is a product of Western identity and culture that has become part of the project of rationalizing society. George Ritzer, and American sociologist, argues that McDonaldization is a phenomenon that embodies efficient, predictable, calculable, and controllable values that are identified with the fast food chain system. The implications of implementing the McDonaldization system appear irrational, especially in the contect of the ASEAN-5 countries that have adopted this system. The author employs a postcolonial perspective to analyze the gap between the normative view of McDonaldizationand the empirical experiences of the ASEAN-5 countries. From a postcolonial perspective, McDonaldization is seen as one of the forms of posctcolonial practices within the global system. This system reflects the dominance of Western ideology and creates a rational imagination for the ASEAN-5 countries, but the effort to adapt the McDonaldization system leads to irrational outcomes and generates new problems in the economic sector. Skripsi ini menganalisis dekonstruksi yang terjadi dalam film animasi bergenre superhero, Megamind. Melalui perbandingan antara film ini dengan film-film superhero klasik, diperoleh hasil bahwa film ini telah medekonstruksi konvensi cerita superhero dalam aspek penokohan, alur cerita, dan sudut pandang. Namun, melalui pengkajian postkolonialisme dan gender, upaya dekonstruksi dalam film ini mengandung dualisme. Pada satu sisi, upaya tersebut terlihat telah melawan supremasi kulit putih serta nilai maskulinitas dan femininitas konvensional yang kerap kali muncul dalam film superhero pada umumnya. Tapi, di sisi lain, terjadi ambivalensi dalam upaya dekonstruksi tersebut karena pada akhirnya malah menekankan pola-pola tersebut. Lebih lanjut, dekonstruksi tersebut ternyata bertujuan untuk merekonstruksi konsep hero yang berbeda. Melalui tokoh Megamind, terdapat beberapa hal yang berusaha ditekankan yaitu proses untuk menjadi hero dan kekuatan yang tidak sekedar mengandalkan fisik. ......This undergraduate thesis analyses the deconstruction which happens in Megamind, an animated superhero movie. By comparing this movie and several classic superhero movies, it can be concluded that Megamind has changed the basic convention of superhero stories through its characters, plot, and point of view. However, there is a dualism meaning in the deconstruction. On one hand, this movie seems to oppose the white supremacy, and also the conventional masculinities and femininities which usually can be seen in superhero movies in general. On the other hand, it also confirms those values again. Furthermore, the movie reconstructs different concept of hero as the result of the ambivalence in the deconstruction. Megamind shows some hero's qualities that rarely appear in the classic superhero movies such as the process to be a hero and other kind of powers beside the physical power.

Sejak masuknya pembangunan internasional ke dalam Studi Ilmu Hubungan Internasional, ia hanya dimaknai sebagai pertumbuhan ekonomi. Seiring berjalannya waktu, kajian pembangunan internasional pun berkembang dan didominasi oleh berbagai teori seperti Modernisasi, Dependensi, serta Neoklasik. Namun, kajian pembangunan internasional terlalu fokus pada ranah ekonomi sehingga tidak sadar akan signifikansi sejarah dan ketimpangan relasi kuasa global yang memengaruhi realitas negara-negara “terbelakang” yang dianggap memerlukan pembangunan. Celah ini lah yang dapat diisi oleh perspektif pascakolonialisme sebagai perspektif yang fokus menyelidiki dampak sejarah kolonialisme dan warisannya yang masih hadir dan memengaruhi pembangunan internasional saat ini. Dengan demikian, tulisan ini akan menelusuri kajian pascakolonialisme dalam pembangunan internasional dengan menjawab rumusan masalah utama yakni bagaimana perkembangan literatur akademis dalam memandang pembangunan internasional melalui perspektif pascakolonialisme? Tinjauan literatur ini menggunakan metode taksonomi untuk meninjau 26 literatur akademis terakreditasi yang pembahasannya akan dibagi berdasarkan dua tema, yaitu Eurosentrisme dalam pembangunan internasional dan persistence of colonialism dalam pembangunan internasional. Penulis kemudian akan memetakan konsensus dan perdebatan dari literatur yang ditinjau untuk menemukan sintesis. Tinjauan dan analisis penulis menghasilkan sintesis umum bahwa pembangunan internasional merupakan gagasan Eurosentris yang dalam praktiknya menyerupai kolonialisme melalui mekanisme bantuan luar negeri, Structural Adjustment Programme, ekspansi perusahaan multinasional, dan universalisme model pembangunan internasional. ......Since the introduction of international development into the field of International Relations, it has been narrowly interpreted as economic growth. Over time, the study of international development has evolved and been dominated by various theories such as Modernization, Dependency, and Neoclassical theories. However, the study of international development has been too focused on the economic realm, neglecting the significance of history and the imbalances in global power relations that affect the realities of “underdeveloped” countries requiring development. This gap can be filled by the postcolonial perspective, which focuses on investigating the historical impacts of colonialism and its enduring legacy that still influences international development today. Therefore, this paper aims to explore postcolonial perspectives in international development by addressing the main research question: how has the academic literature evolved in viewing international development through a postcolonial lens? This literature review adopts a taxonomy method to examine 26 accredited academic works, which are categorized into two major themes: Eurocentrism in international development and the persistence of colonialism in international development. The author then maps out the consensus and debates within the reviewed literature to synthesize the findings of the literature review. The author’s review and analysis result in a general synthesis that international development is a Eurocentric concept that, in practice, resembles colonialism through mechanisms such as foreign aid, Structural Adjustment Programs, the expansion of multinational corporations, and the universalism of the international development model.
