Abstrak :
This book brings together for the first time the conceptual and theoretical underpinnings of polyploid genome evolution with syntheses of the patterns and processes of genome evolution in diverse polyploid groups. Because polyploidy is most common and best studied in plants, the book emphasizes plant models, but recent studies of vertebrates and fungi are providing fresh perspectives on factors that allow polyploid speciation and shape polyploid genomes. The emerging paradigm is that polyploidy, through alterations in genome structure and gene regulation, generates genetic and phenotypic novelty that manifests itself at the chromosomal, physiological, and organismal levels, with long-term ecological and evolutionary consequences.

Abstrak :
Universitas Indonesia, Depok memiliki 10 variasi bunga Hibiscusrosa¬sinensisyang meliputi variasi bentuk, ukuran, dan warna bunga. Kesepuluh variasi bunga tersebut dikelompokan menjadi 3 tipe bentuk bunga, yaitu bunga single, double, dan crested. Penelitian mengenai variasi morfologi dan anatomi daun, serta jumlah kromosom dari ke¬3 tipe bentuk bunga tersebut belum pernah dilakukan. Hasil penelitian menunjukan ke¬3 tipe bunga tersebut memiliki circum scriptioovatus hingga broad ovatus, apex folii acutus hingga acuminatus, basis folii rotundatus hingga truncatus, dan margo folii serratus hingga crenatus. H.rosa¬sinensis memiliki stomata anisositik dan trikom uniseluler dan multiseluler. Hasil pengamatan terhadap jumlah kromosom dari kuncup bunga memperlihatkan dugaan terjadinya poliploidi. Hasil penelitian tehadap karakteristik morfologi dan anatomi daun, serta jumlah kromosom belum dapat digunakan untuk memperlihatkan perbedaan antara ketiga tipe bunga (single, double, dan crested). ......Hibiscusrosa¬sinensisthat grown at Univesity of Indonesia, Depok has 10 flower variations, that clustered into three flower types single¬, double¬, and crested¬flower. Study on variation of leaf morphology and anatomy, and chromosome number of the three flower types has not been done. The three types of flower have circumscriptio ovatus up to broad ovatus, apex folii acutus up to acuminatus, basis folii rotundatus up to truncatus, margofolii serratus up to crenatus. Hrosa¬sinensishas anisocytic stomata, and unicellular up to multicellular trichome. Chromosome number analysis from flower buds showed that the polyploidy phenomenon could be found in H.rosa¬sinensis. The three flower types of H.rosa¬sinensisstill cannot be separated based on the result of leaf morphology and anatomy characters that performed in this research.
