"This article deals with systems of transmission of knowledge. The author looks into the kanuragan of the Javanese and its transformation into a modern form, along with the consequences of this transformation. Traditional kanuragan instruction is primarily oral and centers on intermediary roles and social intercourse, and it is conducted in space that is cosmographically meaningful. In contrast, modern individualistic instruction-rooted in early Greek philosophy and events in the European Middle Age-is highly formalized and linked to economic concerns, leading to an individualism with little regard for one's surroundings. The author suggests that the Javanese kanuragan has been partially transformed by this modern system. Thus, the transmission of knowledge is increasingly divorced from the transmission of morals and affect that form the basis of one's actions and social relationships. The author also notes that scholars would gain much from understanding the kanuragan in their efforts to understand current Indonesian Society."

"Tesis ini membahas tentang peluang kesediaan karyawan untuk dipungut zakat profesi dengan metode withholding (pemotongan gaji) dan faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhinya. Kesediaan karyawan untuk dipungut zakat profesi dengan metode withholding diduga dipengaruhi oleh empat variabel, yaitu; pengetahuan karyawan mengenai zakat, budaya bersedekah pada diri karyawan dan lingkungannya, promosi Badan Amil Zakat (BAZ)ZLembaga Amil Zakat (LAZ) yang didapatkan karyawan dan pemahaman karyawan mengenai regulasi zakat dan pajak. Penelitian ini dilakukan terhadap 299 responden, yang merupakan karyawan perusahaan swasta di Jakarta yang diambil secara acak. Analisis data dalam penelitian ini menggunakan regresi model binary logit. Hasil penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa peluang kesediaan karyawan untuk dipungut zakat profesi dengan metode withholding adalah 63,20%. Apabila keempat variabel pengaruh di atas bernilai rendah, peluang kesediaan karyawan untuk dipungut zakat profesi dengan metode withholding adalah 21,26%. Penelitian ini juga menyimpulkan bahwa pengetahuan karyawan mengenai zakat, budaya bersedekah pada diri karyawan dan lingkungannya, promosi dari BAZ/LAZ yang didapatkan karyawan dan pemahaman karyawan mengenai regulasi zakat dan pajak berpengaruh positif terhadap peluang kesediaan karyawan untuk dipungut zakat profesi dengan metode withholding.

This thesis discussed about the probability of employees’ willingness upon collection of professional zakah under withholding method (salary deduction) and the influencing factors. The willingness of employees upon the collection under withholding method was predicted to be influenced by four variables, namely the employees’ knowledge of zakah, charity tradition within the employees and their environment, promotion of Badan Amil Zakat (BAZ)/Lembaga Amil Zakat (LAZ) received by the employees and the employees’ understanding of regulations conceming zakah and tax. This research was conducted to 299 respondents, which were the employees of private companies in Jakarta randomly. The analysis of data in the research used the logit binary regresion model. The reseach result concluded that the probability of the employees’ willingness upon the collection of professional zakah under withholding method was 63,20%. If the four variables were in low value, the probability would be 21,26%. This research also concluded that the the employees’ knowledge of zakah, charity tradition within the employees and their environment, promotion of BAZ/LAZ received by the employees and the employees’ understanding regulation conceming zakah and tax brought positive impacts to the probability of employees’ willingness upon the collection of professional zakat under withholding method."
